  • The Huawei P20 Pro is a phone of contrasts: some people have never heard of it, others swear by its camera. It is the best phone Chinese company Huawei has ever made and I have been using it for a couple of weeks now...

Huawei was designed P20 PRO B-E-F-O-R-E iPhone X was released, also designed phone with notch YEARS before iPHone X, so who copied?? :)
Old-School look EMUI? You can use billions of THEMES and mix the temes as you like...
Vibration motor - it is enough to feel it in your pocket isn't it? Why supposed to be stronger? Stronger motors are bigger and eats more energy....
Keyboard? You also can download Billions of different keyboards with billions of themes
I never had problem with leyboards on HUAWEI
Wireless charging? Thanks, i don't want it
Charge-no charge-sharge-no charge in seconds (depends you put down or take off your phone) increasing the damage of battery.... I keep on charging once or twice per day and have no problem with cables.....
    Thanks - A HUAWEI user since 2012
(Also used Sony, Samsung, iPhone, but never any more)

I disagree with the IPhone-like design. That's just the standard arrangement of hardware now. Phone companies have been following trends since smartphones existed. Ever since cellphones began in the late 90's, the goal was to shrink the size. Companies kept shrinking phones to the smallest possible size until every available phone was tiny. Then flip phones came out and the process repeated. Every company started making a flip phones and competed over how thin they can make them. Then the smartphone trend started. Everyone started making full QWERTY keyboarded phones. Then the keyboarded phones became slide-able to decrease size again. At this time, Iphone came out and everyone started making touch screen phones. Then the touch screen battle turned into the screen size battle. Then the screen size battle evolved into the hardware battle, which turned into a screen-to-body ratio battle. Then power buttons started to migrate to the back of the phone. Then someone started using a fingerprint sensor and now everyone uses it. Then LG released the first dual camera phone and now everyone is using dual cameras. Iphone started the notch and now everyone uses the notch. Razer made a gaming dedicated phone, now other companies are releasing gaming phones. In-display fingerprint sensors just came out, now everyone is going to take a shot at it.
That's just how technology works. Many phones you see today look exactly the same because they must follow the trend of technology and design to remain competitive on the market. Society is setup to where people don't like to be different. You must design your product with uniformity to other devices so people relate it to premium brands. It only takes one person to start a trend that everyone follows. "Copying" is the only way to stay competitive. It just comes down to who can make their copy better than the original.

Thank you for the great review, the plus points, I agree with everything you said with the positives, this actually comes so very close to a pro SLR camera with the photos I've taken, absolutely first class & beats any Samsung or Apple camera phone out there!!! The photos I've taken on this camera phone, everyone thinks I've copied this from a Pro DSLR camera costing £1000's!!
The battery is also the very best on the market, hands down, Apple & Samsung have a VERY long way to go to beat this battery life & yes, I had iPhones first for years, then swapped to Samsung Galaxy, S5, S7 edge & believe me, the Huawei P20 Pro just totally blows both away with camera quality & battery life's!
Although I agree on the positives, I don't agree on the negatives you suggested. None that you mentioned bothered me at all. The one thing that does bother me tremendously though, and I'm in contact with Huawei currently to resolve is with certain apps. I.e, Amazon apps, Kindle, shopping, music, Alexa etc, whenever there is an update, you get "error code -505" & cannot update! I've had to do 2 factory major resets to resolve this!!!
As i said, I'm speaking to Huawei & they're working on it but, Amazon technical state it's something to do with when you have 2 apps sounding similar, they conflict, hence the error.
This aside, if Huawei resolve this very annoying & very very frustrating issue, I will never go back to Apple or Samsung again as I have finally found a phone that takes amazing professional photos that fits in your pocket & you don't need loads of lenses to carry in a rucksack.
I've found a phone that lasts 3 days between charging, unlike iPhones & galaxies that I was charging before the end of the day!
If Huawei sort this software issue which I am sure they will, they will be market leaders! Apple & Samsung need to really up their game to get to this level without upping their prices!!!!
    Well done Huawei!!

I've had my P20 Pro now for a month or so after moving from the Google Pixel 2 and overall i have to say i love it. The battery life is superb, the camera is much, much better (and i loved the camera on the Pixel 2), and i actually dont mind the notch at all. Remember, you can always 'hide' the notch in the settings.
The face ID and finger print sensor are both very responsive and although it took me a couple of days to get used to the fingerprint sensor being on the front (compared to the rear sensor on the Pixel 2), i find it is actually better placed as i no longer have to pick up the phone to unlock if i just want to check something while its sitting on the table.
My only problem with the phone is with the actual casing itself. While it certainly does look amazing, the raised camera housing means the phone cannot sit flat on a desk while placed on its back. This, coupled with the glass body means it can easily slide on a polished surface or while its laying on the sofa. Unfortunately this resulted in it sliding (untouched) off a bedside table and falling to the floor shattering the rear casing of the phone (sadly before a case i'd ordered on Amazon was delivered! Grr!). So please, if you do buy this phone, get it in a protective case as soon as possible! I have read that some models are shipped with a basic gel case, but unfortunately mine wasn't.
I have my phone paired up with my Huawei Watch 2 and it syncs perfectly, as you would expect. Notifications come though instantly and i use the vibration on my wrist instead of the vibration notifications on the phone itself.
I loved my Pixel 2, and do miss a couple of features from it (such as the squeezable sides to activate google assistant, the 'whats playing' for recognising music playing in the background), and notifications on the always on display while its 'sleeping', but overall i have to say the Huawei P20 Pro is a much better phone and with a few tweaks, such as installing Nova Launcher, i soon had it running the way i want it.

Nice video...However, one thingy you may need to know is that HUAWEI introduced vertical dual cameras since mate9, not follow iPhone at all. Another thing is that currently wireless charge is not as good as super-charge, and what's more, wireless charge doesn't mean you don't need any cable, you need cable for the dock, which you have to pay extra money for it. More doesn't always mean better!

Hah. Just bought the P20Pro and came in to see what I can expect that I'm not going to like. So from your list:
1 - Shameless copy: Not bothered. It's a phone. I don't care what it looks like really. What it can do for me - that matters. 98% of the time the thing is bluetoothed in my bag, so I don't even see it :)
2 - Old School Icons: Meh. Press the icon you want to start the app you want.
3 - Vibration: doens't affect me at all really. I don't notice any big deal.
4 - Keyboard I agree with. I'm having trouble getting my bluetooth keyboard to pair with it, but once I do I'll do most of my work on that anyway so it's not a biggie for me. I do agree that it's a little bleh.
5 - Wireless Charging - funny you should mention that as a hate. It's one thing I would actually go out of my way to not have. If I had Phone 1 and Phone 2, and was trying to toss up between them both, I'd pick the one that didn't have wireless charging. Different strokes for different folks, so all is good.
Ultimately, there is only 1 (VERY) minor thing I agree with you on, so overall I'm super happy with my purchase.

I'm using a cheap Huawei Mate SE, with BlackBerry Launcher, the main or native apps that came with the phone now has a different icon, so that issue you mentioned is not the case on mine. Even the phone is not the most powerful one, and only has 4GB, it has never crash or get frozen, no auto reboots... It just works.

I've just had my new P20 Pro with me on a week's vacation. Hands down the best smartphone camera I've ever owned or seen. Got my "old" Galaxy S8 with me for comparison. It's no comparison. You'll get the best landscape and architecture shots with the "night mode" during the day! Don't worry about the 4 second shutter delay - EVERY SINGLE PHOTO comes out vibrant and sharp, with incredible surface/texture detail. And with night shots it's simply the best! AI can be overly invasive sometimes though.

As a Huawei user I can tell you some things
    1. There is a theme store where you can mix between the themes or just change your icons with the ones you like , EMUI has changes a lot through the years.
    2. Its bad that you dont have a wireless charging but take a look at the fast charging , 60% for around 30 mins , dude thats a gift from god
3 As for the keyboard , the built in keyboard is very good itself no load time , or just download the gboard , another great keyboard.
The only cons I can see in this phone is the beauty mode in the camera

  • @andrewf7445
    @andrewf7445 5 років тому

Great camera, finger print sensor is super fast, and and battery and processor very good, and i got a good deal, but its hard to accept all the little things it can't or doesn't do. Text messages and UA-cam alerts,Facebook alerts, e-mails all have the same tone so I constantly miss important texts ,because they're drowned out by unimportant alerts. If you're on the phone when a text comes in, its silent, so I tend to miss them too. On the MyTaxi driver app the screen goes almost black dark every 5 mins even though its critical it stays on, I have to constantly touch it to keep it on. When do not disturb is active,it still lets some alerts through. You also can't set alerts for texts to repeat every few mins til you read them . I've found work around solutions to some of this, but with mixed results but all these niggles just don't exist on the iPhone. Everything was just so easy with iPhone. I think even Samsung users would find the P20's user experience frustrating.

Unless being without a wireless charge, I've never heard anyone criticizing iPhone or any review site stating that. Is it because of the money they pay u? iPhone has lots of incapibilities but noone asks why? Do u really consider iPhone X as a rival of this phone? Please enlighten me if I can't see any superior or innovative property of iPhone X above any phone in the market!
This phone is the star of the year, and the only rival is S9+. You should create a review on detailed comparison of these phones on a dailly usage basis, not camera comparison, because we know that both are the best in today's market!

The only real drawback that was actually relevant was the lack of wireless charging. That's it. The less refined vibration is debatable but sure ...
You should have included the fact that a clearly media-use focused phone perfect for media consumption and with an industry leading camera which has a dual sim slot doesn't for some reason make the 2nd slot double as a microSD slot. That's the most obvious criticism. A headphone jack would have been nice, but that's an industry trend now, as is the notch (which does not make it an iphone copy, period), so these are non-specific issues really.

    • @Moonlight_Shad0w

It is a very good phone in general. Things that I don't like, they have put together notifications and ringtones. On my other phone at night I turn off notifications but leave ringtone on so if someone calls me I hear it. I hope this can be fixed with an update. The other thing is the screen light. I don't like it to be automatic, I prefer to do it manually. But it constantly keeps turning automatic back on???? Is this a bug and I hope so, an update should fix it. I love the face and finger unlock it is incredibly fast and accurate.

Please how do I stop keyboard vibration on my Huawei p20 Pro??

I have the P20 Pro and I 'm really enjoying it. As for SwiftKey.... I' ve used it since it was in Beta and I'm quite fond of it. I can keep 3 languages on it and it's very good at detecting which one I'm using. Not having to toggle something to change languages in mid sentence, is enough to make me love this keyboard.

I agree. I've been using SwiftKey on all my devices for a while now, and the multi-language word prediction without having to change the language is just great.

What do you use for headphones? A must since putting it to the head like he did in the video sends radiation to the body..

High Vibrational Hasna', I use Bluetooth headphones mostly, but you can use the included headphones or the dongle and any headphones you already have, if you prefer.

I wish there was a slot for extra memory, and it's awkward taking screenshots *having to press the down volume and power button is nigh on impossible with one hand. The only other gripe I have is the lack of standard headphone port. All these are minor gripes and overall I think its a great phone.

I'm confused why is it better to take a b&w picture with a b&w sensor than take it with a normal sensor and use the b&w filter?
    Anyway, my real drawbacks are:
    -no icro sd card. why???
    - 3.5 mm jack plug I'm not sure, can the adapter's dac provide high level audio quality/volume as well?
    - notch ... they copy Apple or not it is ugly and inconvient for the developer and for the user as well
    - I know it is not an issue and a topic anymore but with such a great camera set it could have a dedicated camera button...
Anyway other Huawei phones changing lock screen wallpaper as well....

I just bought a P20 pro and none of the things you hate aren't things that popped up in my mind yet (well I wouldn't mind wireless charging but I never owned a phone with this feature so it's not a dealbreaker), the one thing I hate isn't mentionned : NO JACK PORT! Why are companies getting rid of this? That was the reason I was going to buy an LG G7 but the carrier wasn't selling it together with the plan.

I am using one. What I hate about P20 Pro, when someone messages you and you wanted to call him instead of text reply, there is no option which sim card you going to use. It directs you as default to Sim 1. Yes. In my setting, I chose none that means the phone will show you option! So annoying!
