I was a longshoreman and we always used containers as break rooms and set them up as a club house . It’s nice now to see people actually making them into homes and doing so much with them. Would be great alternative to homelessness and make them for housing for them .

How long would something like this last? Curious if you had an opinion. Would they be hard to insure or would it be costlier to insure?

Those containers need to be reinforced in the middle because they only have the strength in the corners, but in the middle they're need to be reinforced

This is by far my favorite layout of all the tiny homes at ITH. I love the tour of the container home that was in the forest and neighbors named it the death star (from Star Wars, because it's black). Randy, I still think you should take this layout and make it into a wood home, 10 x 32. Each room would be 8 feet long, but 10 feet wide, and you would still have all the wonderful features: one-floor living, large kitchen, walk-thru bathroom, first floor bedroom! In my opinion it is a much better floor plan than any of the ones that just have a tiny kitchen on one side with the bathroom on the opposite wall, or any that you have to climb up to a loft to sleep in a room that you can't even stand up in, etc, etc. Best floor plan of them all! Love it!

I love this concept. I would change the bathroom a bit. If it could be done I'd put the toilet where the sink is and build a cabinet/closet/ with a vanity on the wall. I love your videos.Watching from Ontario Canada. You guys are awesome. Randy your ideas and design are fantastic.

Love it!! Practical, good price and easy to maintain. Like the outside colour.
Put a Dutch style water heater up on wall in Bathroom and have a bigger closet,
Plenty of height for shelves throughout the home and under bed storage.
Some ppl have no imagination and need everything ordered for them.
These homes should sell easily. I would love to have it.
So right to keep stickers and numbers. History recorded. Well done.

WOW! Now this is so exciting! I'm sure you're going to sell these like crazy! As soon as I'm able I am definitely interested! I've been looking at container homes for almost 10 years and I found a really cool video where someone made a u-shaped home out of three. There are so many different configurations and the neat thing is if you have enough space or land you can continue to add on to the square footage of your home by adding another container! There's a ton of really neat videos out there for container home styles. I'm so excited for you guys your business is definitely going to really blow up with these! So cool. I look forward to meeting you in person someday. I lost my home in a 55 plus community because of my social security disability. I've been waiting over 4 years to get both of my knees replaced. I used to have a regular job making good money with no issues and then my knees blew out and everything got turned upside down and it's been a bit rough. Anyway, glad to see you branching out to add containers!

Container homes, great in storms with flying debri as you can shut container doors to protect your largest window ((sliding glass doors)) Also if going away vacation for a couple of weeks ,lock down container doors. Cold weather storms and ice, the same for lock down. Excellent idea Randy for add in closets either washroom or bedroom. Such a nice design for Kitchen, loads of space.

8:25- You should try putting the toilet at an angle where the sink is (or face the toilet toward the rear of the home) and put the sink on top of the water heater cabinet. Or even use an on-demand water heater and put the toilet next to the washer/dryer space and leave the sink in the corner. That would free up the toilet wall for a narrow storage bench for sitting to dress/undress and store dirty laundry in bench! 9:02--- As you can tell, I did not finish watching the video when I started my original comment. With my idea of an on-demand water heater, moving the toilet to where the water heater currently is, leaving the sink in the corner and building a narrow storage bench where the toilet currently sits, that should give you enough room to put in a small Linen closet. Useful for clothing as well. Ikea shoe cabinets are awesome for narrow storage spaces. Maybe your carpenters could build in some wooden IKEA style shoe wall cabinets. Sorry I ran late but I'm excited now. 😂. I've been watching tiny home videos forever.... I remember a video of a young couple that was trying to do it on a super tight budget and they had some really cute ideas that looked nice and seemed very functional. The one idea that I remember clearly was a 4 inch drop down ceiling storage with rails to keep canned food, cereal, etc. Sort of like a drop-down ladder for an attic that had a pull rope. I don't think there's had rope I think it was like a spring-loaded push button but if the ceilings are high enough you would probably need a chain or rope of sorts. Their drop down custom build covered the entire ceiling in the kitchen and it just looked like big ceiling tiles and it did not bother any of the space inside and there was still plenty of head room. You could also make the kitchen countertops more narrow to give more walking space. Most of my ideas are based on the fact that I use a wheelchair so I'm thinking of more floor space and easy maneuvering around the home. that's why I mentioned taking the toilet out of the place you have it and moving it out of the way out of the walkway and replacing it with a narrow bench that would not hinder the flow of the walk through space. When I first found your channel I felt like a kid in a candy store and that has kind of died down but with this video I'm revived 😂

    • @thai7162
      @thai7162 11 місяців тому +6

Respectfully disagree ONLY because it's bad feng shui to have the toilet face the bedroom. Another option if you go with a combo W/D, you can make that entire top section a closet, above the W/D and the water heater. And as someone short lol, putting the sink on top of the water heater would be way too tall for me :) But it might be great for a much taller person.

    • @jedijessic
      @jedijessic 11 місяців тому

@@thai7162A W/D combo is what I was thinking about as well. My mother is interested in one. It's ventless so can take longer to dry, not a concern for us (think about how long it may take you to transfer a load). At 80 mom can no longer transfer a load from top loading washer to dryer (again no transfer), a plus with a combo as I'm finding it difficult as well. Just make sure if there is a lent trap further in the machine to clean (knowledge of maintenance needs).

The reason the ladies arranged the living room the way they did was because of the sliding door opening. In order for the sofa to go on the window wall so that you can put the entertainment center on the blank wall opposite, the sliding door would need to be installed to open from left to right. You have this one installed to open from right to left. Putting the sofa on the window wall would make entering/exiting thru the slider difficult. Consider the orientation of the sliders when building. Otherwise this is a great layout. I love the container homes! Keep up the good work. 😁

Agreed, if they flipped the sliding glass door to open from the other side, wall where the front door is on, then the couch could be flipped and TV where the clock is like Randy mentioned. Definitely would want it flipped if it were me.

I'm so excited to see you build with shipping containers! I love the original markings although I know a lot of people like to paint them. Shipping container houses are the first tiny homes I ever saw videos of about 4 years ago. As someone who is disabled and lives with a limited income, these homes that are under $100k give me hope that I can someday have a home of my own. I also love a one story build, or at least a bedroom on the bottom floor, for longevity purposes. I'm still decades away from needing that, god willing, but it's good to plan for the long run when looking for one's forever home.
Also, I agree with other commenters who said it's good to see a home with furniture in it to get an idea of what you can do with the space.
I love your ITH and hope to call one of them my home one day 💜

I'll bet if you were in the home talking with the couple who walked through it, they would have had a different point of view by the time they left. The fact that you could tell them what you told us, and troubleshooting their questions, might make a big difference in attitudes. It 'could' be that this wasn't their 'best day' to be open to possibilities. (And, not everyone wants a smaller home.) I like the setup of the bathroom and the sectioning off makes the view more interesting. Thanks for your openness!!!

I would have built in enclosed shelves above the WH, for linens, towels, and toiletries, and a tall 3' wide closet between the toilet and sink with an upper and a lower hanging rod, for 6,' of hanging clothes space, then a built in of drawers below and shelves above to the right as you enter the bedroom for folded clothes. Also, I'd get deep drawers custom built for under the bed, that pull out at the end of the bed, to store seasonal items, etc. With that tall pantry in the kitchen and 6 cupboards I'd have all the storage I'd need.

I wanted a Detroit for so long but I was unsure on this floorplan-I'd have to ask for a custom build. I hate propane (the idea of switching out the tanks all the time), I wish it were possible to do an electric tankless water heater but I have a feeling that it would require much higher than a 50amp to power it but i'm not well versed in these things nor can I seem to find a good answer on google lol. But then I would never deal with the 19gal water heater in the way lol.
Then I'd ask to move the toilet to where the water heater currently is, that way the amount of wall space on the shower side of the house covers the toilet so it doesn't jut out into the door walkway. Could put a cabinet or open shelving above the toilet, if you do a full stackable W/D. And then make that entire right side wall of the bathroom a closet/large built in armoire, and a slightly larger sink vanity (I hate washing my face on a half moon/mini sink).
I'd also flip the sliding glass door so it opens from the wall that the front door is on, so I could put my couch on the opposite wall.
I wonder if ITH can do custom windows, I'd need hurricane impact windows and doors bc I'm down in FL.

Whenever I see these container homes, I want to turn it on its side so it's wider than it is tall. I want to use those cargo doors as a deck. You have a built-in floor and roof. I'm 5' 7" so it's still plenty tall for me. This way too, I have more width for actual living space. To me, this means more room for closets if that's what I want, and wider rooms. I would also make a wet bath and use the toilet as my shower chair/seat. This would give me a bigger shower, which I would really want as I'm a bit claustrophobic, and hate small showers. This would probably mean putting the bathroom at the end of the container, but I could live with that. Those 32 or 36 inch showers make me feel like I'm in a coffin...lol

@@bethgreen5587 @carolinehorne6505 actually i just checked, the floorplan on the site is different lol. They did put the vanity and toilet and shower next to each other on the left side. and water heater where the sink is shown in this video. no space for the W/D bc of the width/walkway needed. sigh. hehe. can't win.

I'm looking forward to seeing one of these designs with a very small kitchen on the end. For me having a big ole kitchen in the middle of the house doesn't work. I would like to see a door to come right into a small kitchen on the left, two four ft counters with stools on the other side of the outside one. This way the bathroom would also be far away from the kitchen. Someone could be gabbing at the kitchen counter and not on top of the bedroom either. Again, to the left inside the end door a U shape four ft on each side with comfy stools at the further side of the U. Then I could easily fit a deep tub in the bathroom. :)

I would think the refrigerator would need to be near the living room. It could go through the sliding glass doors. I can't imagine a large refrigerator fitted through those two countertops.

I'm so excited to see you build with shipping containers! I love the original markings although I know a lot of people like to paint them. I have been looking at shipping container houses and videos for about 4 years. As someone who is disabled and lives with a limited income, these homes that are under $100k give me hope that I can someday have a home of my own. I also love a one-story building, or at least a bedroom on the bottom floor, for longevity purposes. It's good to plan for the long run when looking for one's forever home. I also like that you could have it moved without needing oversized load permits. Just needed money to move it when I needed to move it. How much does Dan charge to move the home? I am a retired military veteran with disability issues and fibromyalgia. How far are doctors and medical care? Also, currently, I do have any transportation?
Also, I agree with other commenters who said it's good to see a home with furniture in it to get an idea of what you can do with the space.
I love your ITH and hope to call one of them my home one day, What community of yours would I be able to set up this home on. I would like to be near water or a lake. I need to be in an elevation that would not be flooded in most cases What is the new community across the street from your building location to be called? I also like the video where I saw a large deck attached to the back of a container home. I would not take the markings off, as I saw in another video on container homes that would ease the transport if I needed to ship it outside of the USA.

Does the 75K price include the trailer with triple axle?

I'm 99% sure, yes, that price is how it's shown and including the trailer and axles but it's not stated on the site and the flyer.

Love this home! It’s between this and the Lexington for me. I believe one of them will be mine in retirement. Just don’t know if I’ll want to hassle making a bed in, and cleaning a loft, so I’m heavily leaning towards the Detroit. Both are beautiful though! Sending you both, and the entire ITH family, well wishes for Thanksgiving and beyond! ❤
