Harry Enfield doing the Patrick Moore impression for the Smarties advert. But his Dime ads were the classics, *especially* the armadillos one. A *very* nice selection here.
I remember the Cadbury's Creme Eggs ads - voiced / sung by Frank Muir - this one was from 1981/2. The same ad also features 'Diddy' David Hamilton.
Keith 'Cheggers' Chegwin in the Marathon ad (now called Snickers for many years) - used to love these.
Milky Way (Red Car, Blue Car) ad is called 'American Excess' and is from 1990.
That's the very first Yorkie ad which is a 'classic' ('Coast to Coast') from 1976 - the year all the trucking started and we had hits like 'Convoy'. A superb advert with actor Martin Fisk - the music was written by library man Graham De Wilde who produced a commercial version (vocal and instrumental) released under the name of 'Cirrus' - it only spent a week in the charts at No.68!
Wagon Wheels aired in 1979/80 - Nobody has the Wagon Wheels ad from the 70s with Don Collier - yet it used to be on all the time.
That Flake ad ('Hotel' - 1987/8) is monster! The music was by ace jingle-writer Ronnie Bond who sadly died some years ago. A commercial version was also released from this series of ads by Graham Stokes and called 'Only The Love' (1990). again a vocal and instrumental. Sadly, it never charted. The actress here is Deborah Leng (check her out!) and the full ad and jingle - shown in cinema ran for a full 60 seconds. You don't get much better than the Flake ads.
Dime was 1988/9 - I love those Fry's Chocolate Creme when the centre was runny - do you remember 'Five Centres'? They ended many year ago sadly after changing from liquid centres to fondant.
That Dairy Milk ad (A Glass and a Half) is an early one from 1980.
Penguin commercial was from 1979/80 and the voiceover was by Derek Nimmo.
I found both versions of Treets irresistible.

There's a very similar product in the US to a Wagon Wheel. They're called "Moon Pies". They come in banana, chocolate covered, or, I think, vanilla flavored now. The commercial makes the Wagon Wheel look much moister than a Moon Pie, though.

Yes it was him! He did a few adverts for various companies including another for Cadbury's mini eggs with a version of Mr Slater's Parrot re-title Mr Cadbury's Parrot, and an ad for Ruddles beer which he actually appeared in.

When did the name change from marathon to snickers. We always had snickers in the states and we also had a marathon bar that was 8 inches of braided caramel covered in milk chocolate.

The other commenter is right. The UK and Ireland had the name changed to Snickers in 1990. I still wish the US would allow other Cadbury products directly in the US, but I doubt they ever will now.

"Braided caramel covered in milk chocolate" - fantastically poetic and romantic 💖 👏👏 I'm trying to imagine Terry Scott saying it, but it's just not working!

Interesting compilation. Plenty of Marathon adverts. Very dated hairstyles and sung jingles. "Comes up peanuts, slice after slice." Hmm, right....did anyone actually slice Marathon bars? I don't get it! That Roses advert I remembered the music as soon as I heard it, even thought the last time I heard it was 30+ years ago. My mind is weird like that! I remembered the words to the Milky Way advert with the red and blue cars. I loved the Yorkie ad with the masculine lorry driver ogling women and chomping on his "milk chocolate brick." loooool! Absolutely hated Wagon Wheels as well as the naff adverts for them. Remember the phallic Flake advert with that lizard on the telephone! I remember the Pepperami ad too. "It's the meaty snack that drives you barmy," erm no it isn't, it just makes you throw up with that vile stench emanating from the packet! Hated Dime bars. Might as well have tried eating a kitchen tile. Asfor the Clorets ad, Hale & Pace were about as funny as genital herpes. I remember that Monster Munch advert. I used to love Monster Munch, especially the roast beef / pickled onion flavours. I bet they've made the packets ridiculously small now. Never heard of "Treets," but they look boring. Way before my time!

I remember in the late 80s watching 'That's Life' with Esther Rantzen about how someone wrote in complaining how the chocolate on Mars Bars was getting thinner so 'shrinkflation' as it's now known isn't new.

I always found it funny that it was only called a "Marathon" bar in the UK and Ireland. Every other market calls it Snickers from the start. Did the UK ever get the other flavors of Snickers?

    • @RetroSteveUK
      @RetroSteveUK  2 роки тому

No other flavours. I'm going to presume the marketing people thought Marathon in the UK would make it sound like it lasts a long time. The London Marathon is a massive yearly event here.
