It hasn't the shrinking that bothers me but now the taste. I thought I'd won the lottery when I found a dairy box ( chocolates) in the cupboard last week. They were so disgusting I chucked the lot in the bin. Don't even get me started on chocolate oranges which are a combination of vegetable oil and sugar
@@wondertriplover Rose-tinted glasses may play a part as many people think most things are smaller now than they used to be, but it depends on the product. Twix are now 50g, in the 80s they were 60g, Yorkies are now much smaller than they were (58g vs 46g), but Kit Kats and Double Deckers are both larger now, and Mars Bars and Lion Bars are about the same now as then (Mars was much bigger in the 90s, though). So it depends, but there's also the fact that multipack bars tend to be smaller than individual bars, and quite noticeably so.
Forgive me if someone has pointed this out before but, the DeLorean TV brand complete with Flux capacitor logo and having the channel tuned to 88MPH is the absolute cherry on top of of a very nostalgic cake! Nice one Steve!
Rather watch these all day than what they call TV now and back then people were scared of eating something that was not low fat or didn't have the calories written on the packet because people actually liked eating not like now when they are scared that eating a fried chip is a major problem
Some good ones here. I loved Cabana bars - long gone. Bourneville ad voiced by Michael Jayston - these chocolates were delicious - I loved dark chocolate and very very few chocolate bars were covered with dark chocolate - though you did occasionally get a limited edition, like Mars bar. I think Bounty kept the dark chocolate. The Smiths Crispy Tubes voiceover sounds much like John Le Mesurier - though he died in 1983. Definitely Peter Sallis voicing the Polo Magic circles one. Great jingle in the Mars commercial - certainly sounds like Joe Fagin who did do a few commercials. Nice ad.
As time moved on I converted to dark chocolate as there was far less sugar and the taste was much better. I don't eat chocolate bars now and certainly couldn't contemplate eating Twix bars like I used to in the 80s / 90s - just too sickly and sweet.
WTF!? That Polo advert was weird! Why was that creepy bloke eyeing up that kid through the window, then winking? Ew! "People like Polo," was the slogan. Should have been "Peados like Polo!" lol.
Golden wonder still make cheese and onion Ringos my favourite snack as a child but they are smaller now and less contents in the bag than there was in the early 70s
@@stevedickson5853 Haha I like your comment, but I think the smaller amounts are to control the portions like the chocolate bars are smaller too. It's to help people live healthier lives and control the amounts they eat and many foods today are less sugar and salt and lower in saturated fats which is better for you!! God Bless😀
It never ceases to surprise me how a UK brand uses American symbols and images to sell a product that was never available in the US. One thing I really love about these commercials is that it lets Americans see actors who we would never see outside of the rare TV show that makes its way across the ocean. That older nurse in the Mars Bar commercial, for example, is recognizable to American fans of Keeping Up Appearances.

I refuse to countenance the existence of any Trio advert that doesn't feature Susie. I shall be writing to my MP!
😄
The size of everything for example Mars bar was bigger then, everything has shrunk!
Totally. You can see that in these old ads when someone's holding a chocolate bar in their hand.

is it the fact that children have small hands, or is it the rose-tinted glasses talking out your rear

Yeah those Twixes definitely look bigger than they are now!

Glad somebody noticed!
I think the UK would be a better place if sweets and crisps were the only items allowed to advertise on tv
Oh My God! Peanuts in a playground!
Loved a Cabana
That moment when you realise that you're older than all the people in the ads (that you thought were very old when you were small).
😱
😂 this makes me want to puke watching this,
Rather watch these all day than what they call TV now and back then people were scared of eating something that was not low fat or didn't have the calories written on the packet because people actually liked eating not like now when they are scared that eating a fried chip is a major problem
I loved Smiths Tubes!
0:27 the banana boat song, interesting fact did you know Bob marleys mother sang the original version, her name is Cedella Booker
Den2
BOB HEATLIE
I loved Cabana, whilst they lasted 🤣
They do look nice.
In the history of Twix, nobody ever ate a Twix they way that guy eats a Twix
I always eat a Twix that way when I need to let everyone clearly see that it's a Twix I'm eating, for marketing purposes of course. 🤣
Also remember to stick your tongue out when eating a Flake! (See any old Flake advert).
People like polo. Oh ok. Bizarre ad. 😂
Bit creepy, but fairly innocent at the same time. It wouldn't be made like that now.
7:35 in new Zealand minties are different, they are a hard chewy mint toffee wrapped in a paper lable
Wow Cabana bar, that's a blast from the past
I want one now lol
Me too they were Lush!
@@bobbiescrisps9208 u cant buy them went out of production in the 80s! Like loads a fab choc bars from Cadburys! 😭😔
@@bobbiescrisps9208 Not the genuine article, probably made with poor ingredients in somebodies home kitchen and the price is very OTT
Just looked it up, what a rip off! Cadbury would have a fit if they knew😯
Love these!! Thank you for sharing!
At 2.30, she definitely says "horse shit".
Haha!! 🤣 I'll never hear that in the same way again!
Cabana's were quite sickly as I recall. The ad is pretty cringe inducing too.
I remember Cabana but not the flavour. I imagine they're like a Bounty with cherry and caramel. Sounds quite nice, as I've always loved Bountys.

Forgot about cabana it not even in my memory till now
I prefer the dark bounty's also
It took me a moment to recognise him because of that hat, but that's Rance Howard (Ron Howard's dad) in the Skittles advert.
Really really miss Suchard chocolate 🍫 😔

All that stuff looks very different with modern eyes.
Guy in the Twix (snack gap twix fits) Dursley mcLinden. Died aged 30 in 1995 of AIDS
RIP 🪦
I’ve never heard of ‘Cabana’. Short-lived or possibly regional?
I remember them, but I'm not sure if I remember eating one or if I just remember the commercial.
Short lived.
9:00 the nurse also sold some Philadelphia
Yes! 👍
Recognised her straight away!
The blonde one, who is she? I'm sure I've seen her on something like the Young Ones or Bottom
Sara Crowe was the blonde nurse
Cheese and onion Ringos, mmm, yummy, also miss the old white Lion bar wrappers ,looked so much smarter
I miss those wrappers too. I've had a Lion bar recently. I'm surprised they're still going.

Random 70s actor.
They tasted better in those days too! Anything that has ‘improved taste’ on it is a sure letdown!
Great work steve 👍👍👍
Cheers, my friend! 😀
Knickers to Snickers, worst rebranding ever... This 30 year grudge is still going 😭
Yep! 🤣
8:16 - Mars Bar. Joe Fagin singing? (He sang the theme song to Auf Wiedersehn Pet, Livin’ Alright).
Definitely sounds like him.

Proper size chocolate bars not the mini size rubbish they produce today! Bye for now
Totally. Shrinkflation sucks!
they didn't shrink, the hands of children grow over time. mark you're an idiot.
All these sweets have now shrunk to the size of a tiny toe nail.
Microscopic! ▫️
