DIY Farmhouse Sofa Table | TV Stand with Build Plans

  • This is how to build a DIY farmhouse sofa table | TV Stand. This isn't limited to only being used as a sofa table though. You can use this small table as a hallway table, an entryway table, foyer table, console table, even a TV stand for a 65 inch TV, or tons of other uses!! I built this X style table with easy to use techniques that anyone can follow. The X brace in the back of the farmhouse sofa table build gives it a lot of character but also adds to the stability of the table. I went with an ebony stain on the table which gives it a classic farmhouse look and feel. Why buy cheap furniture when you can build your own console table that is a better quality and will last years longer! This build is an easy pocket hole project using the Kreg K5 pocket hole jig. This project can be built using minimal tools and supplies. The only lumber you'll need for this build is: 2- 8 foot 2x6's / 2 - 10 foot 2x4's / 1- 12 foot 1x6 / 1 - 8 foot 1x6. The dimensions of the table are 50 inches wide, 20 inches deep and 30 inches tall. Total cost of the lumber and supplies was less than $75. So you can build a table for under $75! This design might give you some sofa table ideas. Feel free to use this to make your own sofa table bar. A TV stand for flat screens like this in a furniture store would cost you $250 to $350! Don't buy a pre-made tv stand when you can make a tv stand yourself! Check out the information below to find the tools and supplies I used in this build.

I just started woodworking and find it almost impossible to keep everything spotless while you’re working.

Thank you so much. I watch your videos all the time and you have helped me with insight and tips/ tricks. I am a new DIY craftsman and have been working really hard to support my family in building indoor and outdoor farmhouse projects and furniture. I always seem to get stuck with things in the middle of a build and also trying to figure out what to build next. I really love this line of work due to my 7 plus years doing home repair, build and remodel work. I don't really like the idea of being away from home/family 60 hours a week and making someone else's fortune for them, just to get treated like a number. Your dedication is contagious to me and I have to get on here alot and watch your videos to get back on track. You have no idea how much of a difference and impression you are on mine and most likely Thousands of people. God bless you and your family brother! Thank you very much Sir!!!!!!!

Thank you, you are inspiring me to take my casual hobby into a possible vocation. This looks great! I have been watching a few of your videos. My local church has a furniture mission to displaced families in need of furniture and household items. I spoke to the man in charge and he says they are always short of tables, coffee tables, end tables and dressers. I am hoping to make a few of those items ( based on your videos) learn the tricks and tips and then donate to the ministry. I wanted you to know your influence is beyond just woodworking.

This project is on my to-do list for this week and I am going to make a matching end table. I know this video is an oldie and I am late to the party but one thing I did notice was when you did the pocket holes for the top horizontal rails the pocket holes are facing to the end of the board. I am sure the rest is beefy enough to not make a difference but as a "Best Practice" it would probably be better to have those on the other side so they angle down the length of the side. The top will cover them as well so it is a win/win situation. The lowers of course don't matter as they are in the middle of the vertical "legs". Just something for any other newbies to make note of down the road. Great Video as always.

So I got tire of searching for pencils as well. Try this tip...get a couple of flat rare earth magnets about the size of a quarter. Stick them together on either side of your shirt. Use a pencil with a metal clip on it and stick it to the magnets. Never lose you pencil again. I put a magnet on pretty much anything metal in my shop so I can stick a pencil on it...Bandsaw, miter saw, drill press, all have pencils right there. Hope this helps. Love your videos!

I know this is an older video, but I just found your channel. I used to make knives. But ran into some unfortunate circumstances and had to sell all of my tools. I'm down to a small circular say and a jig saw. A router with no bits. Oh, and a square and circular orbital sanders. I'm thinking getting into wood working because the start up tools are cheaper. A jointer, planer or thickness sander together are cheaper than a belt grinder for knife making alone.
I say that to say, your videos are making me impatient! I want to get started. I'm putting together a tool shipping list now. I've got some hand tools on my list but I can get started with what I have. I've been making some bentwood rings. Going to get some wood for a lazy susan or cutting board or enough for both. Plus I have some friends with bigger tools. Drill presses, band saws, lathes if I need stuff like that.
Sorry I'm rambling on. Your videos got me excited. I don't get excited about much. Your mallet video with the honor the fallen coin really earned my respect.

Awesome instructional video. I've gone through several of yours and am using a lot of your tips on my biggest project that I've ever done which is a 9' x 7' entertainment center. I'm doing it in stages but it's coming out nicely so far.

Hey, that was pretty fast! One thing they may increase accuracy is stop using a pencil to mark cuts. Using a sharp scribe will greatly improve the cut precision, especially on angles, and eliminate the joint ‘spaces’ that can’t be closed when fastened. Thank you for all your presentations!

Nice build, I appreciate how you explain how to do things without expensive tools. Your jointer method is a great idea, simple to do without clamping the straight edge. I wonder if I can use a slot cutter for the table top fasteners. I like your method for the cross pieces. When they are angled in like that the pocket hole connection works great, especially if you fill the with dowel or plug of like wood. Good job.

I am thinking that is what I need. I wanted a table for the kitchen to put my cast iron cook ware on. I was thinking of a black pipe rack on the top with floor flanges to hold it to the table. Use a couple of pipe cross pieces and put hooks on it to hang frying pans and the like, the flat surface could hold large pots like dutch ovens. Just measured the spot and 50 inches fits perfectly. Thanks.
