It was high time to start up the Bluick. Been a while, since at least September 2023 if I remember. It's great now with the new neighbors, they don't care and don't poke their head out when I just unlock the door.
The car has sat untouched this entire time. The only thing I had done prior was put a charger on the battery and fill up the tires. The new battery has held up quite well just sitting, it was still in 90th percentile range. Last year, it started very quickly, no explanation as to why. This year was I think the most trouble yet, great for all of those who love cranker wanker videos.
I actually had a good reason to get the Bluick started up this year, next door neighbors were having a power washing company come in, and they were going to be doing the fence next to it and didn't want to inflict any damage, so I said I'd be happy to move it when they are here.

Glad that battery is holding up well!
Yep, I know the Bluick smell. I hope you’ll get it out more this year. I certainly enjoyed riding around in it!

Yes, I was very pleased that the battery is still good. I think the price on it went up even more now! And I had heard recently that inflation had slowed greatly over the last year. I just made a roughly $50 purchase at Wally World, reordering some things I order from time to time, and had the pleasure of paying an additional $6 because the prices went up. Walmart: Always low prices, NEVER!
What really baffles my mind is how ALL cars used to smell like that. The you consider a traffic jam that an office man in a suit is in for an hour. And he had the windows open in the car for some "air", and he comes out smelling like a mechanic. And these days we're so concerned with air pollution. Mmm-hmm.
Just an interesting thing to note: I've noticed that the exhaust from American cars smells different from Japanese cars. I can say that for absolute certainty in the 90s, and even into the 2000s, beyond that I haven't had that much experience. I'm no professional "smart feller" (said several times fast), but I can definitely detect a difference. In real life, we'd attribute that to the diets of the different cultures, but since they are eating the exact same gas, it's how it's processed internally that makes the difference. As early on as the 87 Camry I had noticed a distinct drop in odor from that car compared to others. I'm sure if I took a whiff of that car now, it wouldn't be that much more pungent.
But oh yeah, the Bluick rides like no other car. They have long forgotten how to build suspensions in cars. Even my grandmother could tell, she used to say how my old Chevy would still give a nice ride, as old as it was.

What a contrast to the old neigbors. Puts up a fence and traps one of your sprinkers on their side of the fence. These new neighbors go out of their way to try and keep you happy. If time permits I would like to try driving it for the first time. Maybe ginger also. How to start a Buick using a printer.

Funny you mention that. That very sprinkler was called into question last Saturday. I forget when but a few months ago we had a power outage. Extremely rare around here since they re-did all of the electrical service, so it was like the first outage since then. We were out for maybe 45 minutes, no big deal at all.
Fast forward several months and here we are with the sprinklers. When I opened the system, I had noted that I had to reprogram the timer, it had lost the settings due to the outage. The timer has a 9 volt battery to keep that alive, but I had not changed that in years since it was never called into play. Fortunately, it wasn't a Duraleak. Anyway I had reset the program on it, following the directions. We have a new plant on the front porch and I have a drip emitter hooked in to water that plant automatically. The plant was looking a little sad, so I gave it some water and it perked way up. That clued me in that the sprinklers weren't firing for the last week.
But when I turned the system on last week, it was on Saturday, and the neighbor poked his head over the fence and said I had a leak. That very head in question, sure enough, was shooting water out which was going under the fence. Turns out the top cap of the body wasn't screwed down all the way. I fixed that and now it operates properly--so it was a great thing that they alerted me to that. As for why they weren't firing, I don't know precisely, but I reprogrammed it again and this time it took.
Yeah, we'll see if we have some time for the Bluick and whatnot.

Wait, you're telling me a next door neighbor knocked on another neighbors door and asked or advised, thy neighbor was getting work done and they were kind enough to tell the neighbor...interesting.

Yes, I had never experienced that before. That fence just "showed up" one day. I still hate it. The new people like it. There's a whole story with that fence. But yes, they were having it power washed and asked if I could move the car to prevent damage. Well, how neighborly! Of course, I'd be delighted to!
