I heard Chuck Woolery's pool takes two and two.

Great startup! That alarm was great, too. It's never fun when that first stream of the day comes out at an angle!

Yeah, once it took off it was awesome! I couldn't have planned that alarm. Oh yes, I have experienced the angled stream. That should have definitely been part of Carlin's "little things we share" skit! Split-stream is a different entity entirely, perhaps that was the intent in putting the sink next to the toilet in some bathrooms!

If I had the chance to take that part again, I would have.

Yep, just looking for that "money shot" so you can get on to the next one. My favorite part is seeing it blue again.

It's possible that maybe when you first turned on the pump, it released an air-lock which allowed more water to flow in the pipe a second time. I think the old Pentair pump only ever needed one fill, but we also filled the pool completely before opening it which means the skimmers could be used too, so when they opened the valves first and then took the plugs out of the skimmers, it allowed a LOT of water to go into the piping first which gave it a good boost. I forget, how come you don't pre-fill the pool first? I know it's a little easier to get the jets and such on before doing so, but I forget if that was the reason.
I was NOT too gentle on those pump cover knobs for our waterfall pump back when, haha. But luckily I never paid the price for it.

      Anything's possible.
If I had the chance to fill the pool first I would. But since water leaks through the cover, they're end up beeing too much water left on the cover, making it near impossible to remove, and this was tough enough.
With that said, I could remove the cover, spend a couple days filling, and then continue on so I could have everything open. But, by the same token, those skimmer lines were blown out also. So there's 3 times the amount of air to displace. "One in, one out" seems to make the most sense to me, even though it's not entirely optimal in my setup. Filling the pool first is also like putting the cart before the horse. I wouldn't want to have to waste all that water, if it needed to be for whatever reason for a more major repair.
These days, with the advent of online shopping and Chinese copycat parts that are, for all intents and purposes, as good as the originals in terms of functionality, getting replacement knobs is easy and inexpensive. Having it NOW, you will pay for at the pool store.

In theory, you could also try to connect a shop vac to the pipe going to the pump, then have it suck the air out until there's water, then close the valve again, connect the pump, fill the basket with water like you did in the video and open the valve about a second after you've turned on the pump. If that really works, it should prime almost immediately. Maybe something to try next year? :D

Interesting idea, but that'll have to be a pretty strong Shop Vac, I'd expect.

@@jaykay18 yeah, it might work, it might not. There's only one way to find out tho, but that'll have to wait till next year :D
Maybe China can send you one of their most powerful shop vacs in the meantime?

I don’t feel comfortable using the drain bladder because of the old age of the pipes and the strangulation fitting on the union in front of the pump could puncture the bladder and get it stuck in there. Also I like your play by play you provide when the pump is catching prime.

I like giving the play by play. I likely can ultimately find something that will fit without danger of anything breaking..
