Alot depends on the wind and other obstructions like trees. Where I live on a still night you can hear the high horsepower street rods with loud exhausts up to about 4 miles away! I had a 5k watt system with two 15's on 4,000 watts in a hatchback focus you could start to hear it at around 2 miles away. At about a mile you could hear it thumping pretty good. At a quarter to a half mile you could hear the bass line. From maybe 500 feet you could even make out the song!
@@real-jeesus well yeah, I'm saying if you're subs are 500 watt RMS each, that's 1,000 combined power RMS is what they can handle. If it's a brand that underrates their power, you might be able to squeeze 600 or more out of each, which would be around 1,200-1,250 total. Therefore, let's just go on the manufacturer's spec's of 1,000 combined. In order to have an amplifier push a thousand watts to these, it would have to be at the lowest stable impedance, presumably 1 ohm. A 1,000 watt amp wired to 1 ohm only is going to put out around 500-700 watts playing with box rise on a dynamic load. Therefore a 1,500 watt amp would be playing at around 1,000 watts or so, but that's pushing it to the limits. I always recommend twice the power for an amp that your subs need. A 2,000 watt amp would be playing somewhere in the neighborhood of 1,200-1,500 watts. That's what you'd want at a minimum so you could back off the gain a little or give your subs that extra oomph. There's lot's of quality 2k amps for around $250-$300.
@@real-jeesus a 2k amp would be hammering those subs with minimal distortion at up to 600 watts each sub and still staying cool with the gain turned down a bit! 😎 But yeah, a 1,500 watt amp is the BARE minimum that you'd need. A 1k amp won't cut it realistically.
The G7's aren't better than the v4's. I have the G7's in a Pete Bass box(one of the best box builder sin the country... Definitely on par with M.B) I am thinking of just getting the DD 2508 or V4's. I was at slamology and a few folks said the same... The G7's start to "smell" with moderate levels. They still perform but they aren't to be played at anything close to their rated power. I wouldn't even 1K RMS. The X8V4 > G7 for SPL.
@@beyondthedetails this a Sundown plant subscribers…the G7 is on par with the Sundown X8v4(which is the same as the X8v3 just longer arms in basket)….ask Dongguan Erisson Acoustics in Guangdong, China. In fact spec wise the G7 is decidedly a better performer, at every metric. Fact.

Been in the scene since 2001. Like I said I own 4 G7 8’s and if you even go on Steve Meade forums you can verify the smell issue I described. I think you may of done a small test as I believe you rock the DD’s on the daily. They have an issue with the coil heating up way to fast and not able to handle the 1,250 RMS power they are rated at. I wouldn’t say the V4’s are “better” I just wouldn’t say the G7’s are better either. None of them hold a candle to the DD 2508 though… ESPECIALLY if you SC.

That's underpowered, even at Max output. You need a minimum of a 1,500 but I usually always recommend double the power of the subwoofers for your amps
