This method is good for making it smooth but it will give it a sheen. If you want the true matte finish and still have it smooth then take a razor blade and put it at a very low angle ( almost parallel with the surface) and gently run the blade across the surface. It will only cut what is sticking up and will leave no scratch marks or buffed shininess. Go easy, smooth, and light and it works like a charm. Just make sure you let it cure for a couple of days before you do it. That's an 'amateur' tip! On the edges I took the blade and gently ran it backwards (pulling the blade with the sharp edge facing away from the direction I am pulling it) to scrape the bumps smooth. It worked extremely well!
Love your videos on your step by step Epoxy. I did my kitchen counters in a black and white marble, with a little blue earth dust mixed in some of my white epoxy. OMG! It turned out absolutely BEAUTIFUL! My contractor working on my bathroom saw my counters, and he thought it was granite. He took several pictures and wants to show his customers. Thanks Rhonda, I guess I'm in the same boat as many others. I built a new countertop of MDF and did an exotic marble pour followed by a clear coat, it was stunning. I then followed the directions on the gloss UTC and it dried slightly milky and very matt. I contacted Stonecoat and was told to sand it off with 60-80 grit, glad I didn't burn through to the color coat. I just did the clear coat again and it looks great...whew. I'm going to follow your directions, you add much more water, I think that's the trick. The bottle says there's enough for 50 sq.ft. but following your specs I bet you could get close to 75sq.ft. You gave me the courage to try it again. Wish me luck. All the best!
I did my counters white w the art cost and it turned so yellow it’s not funny. Like REALLY bad. I’m repouring gray tomorrow with a Leggari’s product but going to try the stone coat topcoat. I haven’t been happy with their products… I hope this one goes ok 🤞
Well put together!! 👏👏 Nice to see a resurfacing video in depth. 👍 I wonder if a video on a mess that happens in a kitchen clean-up might be handy as well, especially with the white surfaces? For example: coffee, red Kool aide, built-up grease, etc. that might happen in those spots that might not have been seen the first time through, so they've been there a bit.
@RK3 Designs Hello! Thank you for this video. As many people here, I did a white and brass marble which turned out amazing. Then added a clear coat which made it nice and glass like shiny. It was eye popping. THEN,,, I put the glossy UTC using Stonecoat Countertops water recommendation of 1.5 oz of water per every 4 oz of UTC. The application with a 9 in roller and dry roller was flawless. No lines, no discoloration. BUT it created a texture. The surface is super smooth but it has a texture that makes it my countertop look like laminate again. I hope doing this 10000 grit polish can bring back that glass like appearance and get rid of the texture.

Thanks Rhonda! I was looking for tutorial last weekend for the UTC glossy. I didn't find anything until now. Anyway I ended up using a car polish with a high speed buffer. It worked out great! It took off all the high spots. It left it smooth and glossy! I was much happier with it for sure.
I finished my bathroom vanity--it looked so great! Then I put the UTC on, and It seems to have obscured all the lovely depth I had achieved with the epoxy layers. I did white marble with veining and I used your method of randomly pouring clear, white, milky white, light gray and clear with mica, then using sticks and gray RO spray paint for veins, plus leftover opaque white epoxy for fracture lines, and it was beautiful! It looked so real! And now I can't see the depth and layers and I really can't see the bling at all--the mica disappeared just from using the matte UTC. Will using this method of 10,000 wet-sanding work to restore some of that gorgeous depth and sparkle? Love your channel!

I really would have done a LOT more of a bold design and a LOT more mica powder, but even so, I'm not sure it would have shown through the UTC, which seems to have left a milky opacity over the whole thing. Ad I followed instructions 100% after having watched all Rhonda's videos on UTC, including the one where she has a guest on who used a misting spray of water. I'm wondering if I should have used the gloss UTC instead, but I was worried it would show visual texture (the "orange peel" texture sometimes discussed.)
@Kristin Ferguson I have already applied the matte UTC to my countertops and like you it gave them a very milky shein which blocked out a lot of the radiance in my piece. I don't hate it, but I definitely thought I would be able to see the smaller details more clearly.
Hey there. Did you use our mixing ratio or what was on the bottle? The matte is truly a matte, so you may like the gloss sheen a bit more. The 10000 won’t really do anything for the depth. It will just make it smooth. 😊

I had bought the gloss at first, then returned it after watching your video where you said you felt the gloss gave more of a visual orange peel texture than the matte, which I didn't want, so I ordered the matte, and honestly I don't mind the matte surface, and it truly doesn't give an orange peel look on my mostly white marble surface, but it did sort of obscure a lot of the depth I had achieved. I don't hate it (and it sure looks a lot better than the ugly granite underneath!) but I would probably choose gloss for my next project. I followed your instructions to the letter, and I had intended to also do the water mist on the surface as your guest showed in one of your videos, and I had borrowed an atomizer, and even used it on my test piece first, but then forgot to use it on the actual counter! Doh! But the finish of the test piece wasn't noticeably different from the counter in the end. I will note that in one of your videos where you use the gloss UTC, it seems like you are using a greater portion of water than in previous videos and I wonder if you have updated your ratio? I am obsessed with your videos and now I want to turn every surface in my house into marble :D
Hi Rhonda - I really appreciate this channel! In 2021, I refinished an ugly old kitchen countertop using the UTC matte finish. It's been great (though when I watch THIS video I realize that I DO have some texture I'd like to sand out). It's an arborite counter with a round profile at the front edge....not only, "round", but that rounded edge does come up a little higher than the level of the counter, before rounding down to the vertical surface, and in front of the sink, water tends to sit at times. Now I have a little section that looks like a piece of leather has been pushed to the side, and you can see the original (hideous) counter. Is there a way to do a repair, or am I in for a complete re-do? THANKS!

I'm so scared the top coat will leave lines because I'm new. Also I used glow and the dark powder in some of my epoxy. Will Appling the TC tone down the glow, or will it be ok?
How come nobody uses vibration to make the bubbles rise and to help level? I strapped one to the leg of the table I was working on and during the pour itself. I saw my bubbles rise , break and fill in without having to use heat and causing wind that might stir up dust. I just put a couple of rubber bands to hold it. After the pour (2min.) I put some cloth around the massager till the vibes were hard to distinguish.. Checking a couple of times saw nothing.Coverd the table with a clean cheesecloth supported above the surface to keep bugs, hair and dust off. Watched a lot of videos and no one mentioned using these very helpful steps in my opinion.
I really love how my kitchen countertops turned out - gorgeous "blue granite" look with uber depth and detail. The only thing I do NOT like is the very UBER glossy sheen. I purchased the matte UTC and planned to use it. But I did test board and it totally changes the look - little if any depth and colors/details subdued down to maybe 15% compared to NO UTC. Do Not like. So I'm in a holding pattern before making my next move. 1. I was wondering if you've ever tried mixing the Part A glossy and matte UTC together (mixing super well, of course) as I would think that could offer a far less glossiy outcome without loosing as much depth and detail. 2. I also watched a video of you applying UTC and you mentioned in that video that the UTC Glossy was not super glossy - instead more semi gloss or satiny. Is this correct? Hey there. Sorry just getting able to reply, I was in a car accident and Ive been down a bit. Im surprised you didn’t like the matte finish. In our experience we’ve had great ouch with the matte actually making the colors pop and the details really stand out because you loose that overpowering glare. Did you use our mixing ratio on our PDF? The gloss more of a semi glass but it will have a slight visual texture due to the roller application. I have tried to mix the two but it still comes out a more matte than a gloss.
What did I do wrong? Wet sanded my matte UTC and it’s no longer matte. I don’t feel like I over sanded. I just wanted to knock off the slight texture and keep the protection. It feels smooth, but has a fine pattern of matte/shiny. Hate it! I loved the look and feel before I used the UTC at all, and had it prepped for UTC.
What grit sand paper did you sand it with? As stated in the video, we always recommend doing a sample board before sanding your project. Some colors are affected differently than others. This gives you some expectations on what the finished project will look like. You can sand down more aggressively like instructed on the video, and pour another flood coat if you don't want the UTC. You can send with the 10,000 grit, however, depending on the color, it may show a flattening effect more than if you do it on the matte . You’re not going to remove the visual texture on the gloss. That visual texture is caused by the application method of using a roller. All gloss products, no matter what they are, will have a slight visual texture if applied with a roller.
I just used the gloss UTC over a white marbe epoxy table with no clear flood coat and I can see some roller lines and I dont like the light reflection masks all the beauty of my table. Im thinking of removing the UTC & added a clear flood cloat. Is that possible to do if I just have a color coat of epoxy underneath? Also what are your thoughts on just using epoxy and not UTC on top? Is it necessary?

No, we've not had luck with spraying the product. The open time is too short and will clog up your gun. If you dilute the material too much to shoot through a gun you compromise the integrity of the product thus reducing it's durability.
I'm guessing you are in America...back before you were a gleam in your Daddy's eyes as a "Bump and paint" man We wet sad with 1200 wet and dry, then buff with cutting compound and then buff with polishing compound on Lacquer paint finish and it came up like glass... I I tied the technique on an epoxy pour table top and it worked out the same...
Ultimate Top coat is garbage. It ruined my countertop even after we followed all the directions. The product is chunky and left sharp chunks on my countertop.
I’m sorry you’re having issue’s but I can assure you it is t garbage. We use the product daily in our installation business. There is a learning curve and 80% of the calls I get from customers, the problem is user error. I’ll be more than happy to talk with you and answer any questions if you want. 😊

I have a Formica counter top that is very dull. Can I use the 10,000 grit to sand out scratches and put on the ultimate top coat to make shiny again?
We have an apart rent. We did the counter with epoxy we used that product and they burned the backplash and the counter 😢.

would it help to roll the utc on with a foam roller instead of the 1/4 in roller?
We've not had good luck with a foam roller. Causes too many micro bubbles.
