- A video about Korg's new wave sequencing hardware synth called the "Wavestate". It's a relaunch of their older flagship Wavestation keyboard/rack. It's like having Omnisphere 2 but in hardware form! It's has over 6 gb waveforms and 4 layers (just like Omnisphere or ElectraX!)! Over 1000 wave sequences and a world class arpeggio section! I was blessed to have worked on this for a nice chunk of last year - it's a very very very deep instrument. It's also very cool that they licensed 2GB+ of my samples to include in this instrument. Blessed to have worked on the original and now on the upgrade! Be well bro
OH - and the 2GB they licensed are also in my plug-in I just released called Unify. Woot!
It seems like a dream come true for someone who was awake when MIDI first hit! How the Wavestation drew us forward! Hurrah!
I bought it last Wednesday, also the native plugin and trying to figure out what’s going on… i am so confused, the buttons often do nothing what is written on the hardware… sometimes they do nothing, sometimes there is a reverb triggered instead of gate…. Everything is still mysterious and magical… I hope I’ll figure it out… the sounds are inspiring me with no limits

Just got mine and I never knew I needed one. I was always a fan of the VST version of the original Wavestation. This is like the Wavestation after Unicron gave it a makeover. Highly recommended.

I havent bought hardware in about 7 yrs . However if you add up all the vsts ive bought i could buy this about 7 times literally. 800 sounds like a lot bc its upfront but all the vsts weve all have bought here and there adds up to a lot more. I agree with some comments if you get this no need for vsts anymore.b

I'm going to make a hard prediction that Korg is going to wait to see
how the Wavestate is going to be received by the general public first
and if all goes well in terms of sales they're going to release the
Rackmount Wavestate A/D and the Wavestate EX 61 key version with even
more presets, user audio sampling and a external XLR microphone for a
built in vocoder. It seems like the logical path to take because these
features that have been on the wish list of many hardcore Wavestation
users for years and Korg knows this to be true. I belive the Wavestate
will do well I know I will be buying one.
Now with WS 2.0 we are in the outer reaches of the universe!

Only thing is that it’s made of plastic. I think they could’ve use a aluminum shell for a more premium feel. $800 is a premium price
@@BritoWorx omnisphere is $500, the Tribute addon is $100... that leaves $200. show me a "premium" $200 keyboard. native instruments komplete kontrol mk2 is $800 .. its plastic.. and its just a midi controller

I figure more than a few will hit the stores as returns or something, these not easy to master, not from what I am seeing. It is a 10,000 piece puzzle of spaghetti in a bowl. That's a good thing!
Got the Modwave for 550. It is equally brilliant... I'm a bit dissapointed to see the new Wavestate vII up to that price (a 300 hile from the vI). But awesome, yes! Sampling heaven.

Was set on getting a korg X3 for that vintage sound. Once I saw your video I did more research and this is a go. Dan Fisher from sweetwater did a really good video as usual. Sold!

Your overview is perfect. I own this beauty and after you get bored with the dozens of excellent presets (all editable) you can create your own performance patches - limited to your imagination 👍

This is wild, you came out with this vid a year ago, and after having listened to you jam on the Wavestate last night, I can say this title is accurate
I’m pretty sure the Wavestate has 2 gigs of ROM sounds, not 6 gigs

Cons from what I have seen .. Aftertouch was stated only over midi.. and not able to upload your own samples or not having a dedicated PC/Mac editor in the works.... YET.....but I can see Korg making one in the future... oh and it only has 2 master reverbs.. but any real soundengineer is going to match this with a high end pedal like a bigsky or Space anyways... that least I have plans to..
. With those cons... I still believe its a good if not great addition or gear to own... it makes great sounds and I am definitely getting this even if Digital.. and the Minilogue XD due to the custom plugins abilities.. even when I already own a Minilogue and Monologue ... the XD and this Wavestate are a must.. if you are into sequence and hands on knobs customization.. at their price point.. is good.. but even better when found used. I got my Monologue used for 200-215ish 6 months ago and my Minilogue for 320ish New but durning a sale when buying any item over 500 get 200 off from Guitar Center..last spring/summer last year. So even buying the XD and a WaveState at full price, I am comming out on top under 2 gs for all 4.
One other con is the lack of a "sync in/sync out" option. I'd love to use this with the volcas but oh well. I guess they did that because there's no clock? I'm still think about pre-ordering despite that. I wish they take another shot at a sampler. The Electribe left a lot on the table. While giving us everything else.

@@Glazed4Dayz I might buy another sp404sx . It wasn't bad but it wasn't great either. Otherwise, I might go ancient and buy a MPC2000XL with mods. I can't waste all these vinyls in the house.
I tried it at NAMM, it was nice, but what really surprised me, was the minilogoe XD. I have the original, but the XD is really better sounding.

I've seen a few demos and what I've seen and heard is pretty impressive. Don't know if there's anything truly innovative here, but I think for what's offered the price is pretty good.
I'm going to look this this will be a perfect companion to my Vsynth GT
The "damper" is a pedal that's plugged in via 1/4 inch jack, it works just like a damper on a traditional piano to deaden or dampen the sound, meaning the patch gets quieter.

I definitely think Korg should have considered 61 keys like the original Wavestation. Oh and aftertouch... Why not give it aftertouch?
@Rhizosphere Korg did the same thing with the Prologue and Minilogue synths. Personally I feel like instead of halfassing on the keybed they should of just made desktop joints. Solid products but they cut corners.

For me I want want something that can't be done in the box such as a new Alesis Andromeda or a new Virus if that is announced I'll be happy because theres nothing that can sound like those software or hardware as well. For the Virus all we have is the Ti2 and older ones which will suffice for now but in terms of the Andromeda? Nope and if its ever for sale its for a fortune and you're lucky to even find someone that will let you touch it if you know someone who has it *cries*
Welp this is the exactly opposite... It allows dawless jammers to have the power of ElectraX or Omnisphere in hardware. It's remarkable off that alone imo.
@@AveMcree it does seem useful for the right kind of person. At this point I only get hardware to do something I know software will never do or sound like other than that the convenience of ElectraX/Omnisphere is fine for my needs. A digital synth is an expected surprise for sure but new rendition of either of the synths I've mentioned would break the internet in the music producer and synth enthusiasts community.

The Korg Minilogue was perfect for me. So is the Model D. You can't beat those for cheap analog synths IMO.

Nothing new about the wave station being amazing, fell in love with it in the 90s, it represents all the design concepts David Smith's team of sequential circuits was working on when they went bankrupt and Mr. Smith cleverly sold the copyrights for his R&D to korg before he lost his company, then his team went to work for korg , there were limitations to the micro processing power of the original wave station so you can't do certain things in real time , like twisting a knob , we need to see an editor library program for this hopefully on the iPad because I understand it's modulation matrix is insane under the hood ,

A single hardware synth cannot cover the potential of a common vst synth collection (Omnisphere, Kontakt and others). I heard the demos of Wavestate and it sounds very well, but still I'll wait for a sound design in depth review (a good one is by Cukoo) to judge its value. I usually don't care about stock presets that mimic the fashion sounds, I need to know how flexible this machine is for me to create the sound I want.

I've ordered mine due to my own personal special interest in this synth (I have the original) + some knowledge of the dev team behind it.. so I think it's an awesome machine... but I'd like people to be aware regarding the claim of 64 stereo voices: Wave-sequences with cross-fades take 2 voices - so four layers of those will equal 8 voice polyphony... (edited/corrected as I was thinking each layer can be 4 oscillators.. not the case unlike original wavestation.) . (from the manual "Sounding Voices [0…64] - This shows the number of voices currently being played. Wave Sequences use two voices per note, so if all four Layers are active, a single note may trigger up to 8 voices.")
Caveat emporum is one way of saying ah well. =) is still a lot of stuff to trim down in the mix, eh?

Ave Mcree - lots of things are multilayered plugins🤷🏻♂️. Wavestate does wavesequencing and Omnisphere doesn’t. Omnisphere does wavetable synthesis and Wavestate doesn’t, so no, they’re not related. They’re both good for ambient is all.
@@xp50player there's literally a hand full of VST that do multi-layer synthesis. Especially use using more than one sequence at a time. Not to mention the wavestate is a wavetable synth. Wave sequencing refers to the modulation done by the sequencer.

I understand, my moogs convert midi to cv so no real issue with that. Try the new SQUID from pioneer it has a few out options like midi, cv and din sync. Roland trs 8 has sync, midi and usb. Lots of ways to get to town now! C V might be the straw that broke the camel back on this convoluted monster!

Its dope for sure. However I don't see the Korg Wavestate withstanding the test of time. Meaning Its not one those pieces of gear that people will tend to hold on to for many years. Even with all its capabilities we'll start to see them on ebay for cheap in 2021. Im going to stick with guns and grab the Arturia Matrixbrute for analog sound design.

I know they are. I still don’t believe that the Korg will be a long term unit for most. It’s too close to a VST in terms of sound quality and functionality. With the only exception of it being hands on and portable. What is it doing that Omnisphere 2 isn’t?? I’m not saying it isn’t dope because it is. But most people will use it more for the presets and not for the other functions. Not to mention you can barely see the small screen. For these reasons I don’t see it being used for years to come. They’ll be on eBay in 2021 for around $599 and cheaper as time passes. I buy hardware based long term use and not niche factor.

It looks cool! I’m curious on how the Keybed feels. Me and that dice button are gonna have a love hate relationship. A damper pedal is just another name for sustain pedal, and you’ll definitely want one to keep a big chord arpeggiating while you tweak all the effects.
With that midi in, you’ll be able to control your synth with your DAW, and if you slip up while playing, you could adjust the mistake and have the computer play it back for a clearer take. I would get this.

Should check out the prophet x. 150 gigs plus 50 gigs for you to upload your own samples. So you could sample your favorite sounds and then run them through 16 analo filters.
