Hi there! I am Joseph.
I have been an immigrant / expat living in central Portugal along with my beautiful partner Mariana for nine years now.
Together Mariana and I, would like to show you a bit of the daily goings on around our Portuguese farm / homestead / smallholding and all of the work we are doing whilst renovating, starting building projects, working with our livestock, DIY and trying to grow our little families own food!

One of your finest to date, Joseph. There’s a fair income to be had from those olives; that would help pay for the renovations. As you suggest, solar, septic and bore would be a consideration. If it’s your thing perhaps some stock too. 🐐 🐽 but definitely 🐓.

@@paulb1951 Paul, for our family there’s two priorities: to buy a property along a large body of water (sea, lake, river,…) & have it in a society that’s still standing for traditional European values. Based on our experience, Portugal is one of the rare contenders. Ultimately just personal preference….

A off the track question for both of you. At which local market in Castelo Branco-Fundao region can I buy the best goat cheese for home consumption. We don't mind travelling from Lisbon once in 2 months to buy it alongwith other local produce.

Joseph what is the weather like in winter and summers? Also the concern of water shortages. Do you have rationing? Thank you
Enough water in the big Lake. 😀 .. Winter can be 10-15 degrees celsius in the daytime.
Frost is possible, specially in the night. A little snow is possible, but i think it is rare. Normally much rain in autumn winter. Dry and hot in the summer.
25-35 degrees celsius. This spring and summer there was plenty of rain.

question??? U mention that one can not plant fruit trees among the olive trees why is that??
I mean, you could, but trees require a certain spacing for them to reach their full potential, the olives are already spaced at that distance, so you wouldn’t want to overcrowd them by placing other trees there also

Lake Marateca. Also called.. Baragem de Santa Aqueda. So the farm is somewhere on the West side of the Lake.
A few kilometers from the places.. Ninho do Acor, and Sobral do Campo.
Normally you mention wells, water mines, and bore holes. Are there any?

Is suckers the same word as thieves ?
Yes, the English word for these parts of the tree is suckers, the portugues word is ladroes (thieves) because they are sucking/stealing the nutrients 😊

Your webpage says "Properties for sale" over half are sold and there is no way to filter. "browse through our current available properties" Why don't you put a filter on there or at least remove the sold ones?
I leave the sold ones up for a little while as otherwise I get people asking me about old videos… The listings are pre filtered new at the front to old at the back, so the first thing people see are the latest videos, sorry, it’s the best I can do with my limited knowledge 😁

There are plenty of workers, migrant or otherwise, there are volunteer workers that only ask food and shelter, you can even sell the fruit on the trees if wanted
