Ive met and spoken to them all..what a lovely family, so common....still cape bretoners to the bone. Was invited to a house get together Once they were all there. They are a hoot to be around. And the red shoe pub, met jimmy there one day he played piano for us... God bless them all, thank you for the songs and laughs.
I'm from PEI. All our east coast singers are like that. I have sat down and had a beer with Stompin Tom Connors. A couple of the guys from the band Haywire are old friends of mine, although I haven't seen them since the 80s.
I love this song. It perfectly describes the love of this trade and why these brave souls head out into the rough Atlantic to make a living. Heather has an angelic voice, but I would have liked this song to have been recorded by a man, after all it is about a son, not a daughter.
This was beautiful. I have a question: I was wondering if you have the recording of when the Gillespie family was on the telethon? They would have gone by the Gillespie Five or something similar for the five performing siblings (it was many years ago though so understandable if you've no idea)

One of best folk groups ever. I am sorry tragedy hit the family so severely.
32 years... Hard to believe.
Just beautiful!

the cape breton accent at 1:30 is real
Which Rankin is she? First name? Exceptional.
That's Heather
I miss Cape Breton 😢

And that is Canada.
I prefer Freddie the Fisherman's Son. Backing is far too loud.
