Thanks for the review. I've used these hooks for a few years and they do well for me. I've also replaced all of my treble hooks with these and I agree the Mustads tend to be larger than the VMC that I also used in the past. I've switched all of my hooks from Gamakatsu to Mustad because the Mustad hooks are heavier duty and are less money. In some cases a lot less money. We're also switching the bent Clarkspoon hooks with Mustad hooks and it's very clear they are tougher hooks.
Should you weigh the treble hook and in line hook so it doesn't affect the lure action or make it float or sink faster? Recommended for top water lures only?
That would ensure you know exactly what the weight difference is. But from what I've seen so far, going with a lighter Owner Inline hook on a MirroDine didn't make much of a difference in retrieve depth even though it's noticeably lighter than the treble hooks it came with.
When a diving lure swims the hook points of a treble on the body of a lure remain exposed for hook ups, the singles need to be held in place with the hook point down or they will push up against the side of the lure body making the hook essentially hidden from hook ups. Running singles at the rear works fine though.
Nice one Luke - for you Aussies - Mustad in-line hard to find in a range of sizes here in Australia however I found the Mustad "Kaiju" appear to be the ones available now - have swapped out most of my hard bodies.
Hey guys! Recently starting watching the videos which, btw, I enjoy very much, especially in the dead of winter (I’m in L.I.N.Y. - Skinner summer territory). Needless to say, I’ve since subscribed and I’m binge watching. I love the tackle side of the hobby. I’m trying to get a full understanding of the Salt Strong terminal tackle “lineup”. Is the Z-Man Slam Shady a plastics style, size, color, all, or none of the above? I google it and I get too many responses and variations to understand exactly what it is. I know you’ve trademarked it, but that’s about it. Can you explain it or point me to a resource? Thanks! P.S. - I’m still on the fence regarding the “like diamonds” thing. It depends on my mood. Lol.
I think what DopestOtterEvr is after is the translation between trebles and singles, i.e. "my bait currently sports size 4 trebles, what size online singles should I reolace them with?".
Would welcome an update on this video. Availability for both the Owner 2/0 - 1/0 and Mustad #1 - #2 is tough. After 2 years, any updates on these two options, and best split rings to pair with the 2 rough size hard baits?
Hi Luke. I am late to the comments, but I have been thinking about switching out some of my trebles...so, I find this video helpful. Anyway, I would like to see a comparison between the Mustad and Owner brand with VMC inline hooks which seem to be readily available and come in 4X and 1X strengths. Thanks for all the great vids.
I guess I've tried every inline single on the market, I'm not so happy with the Mustads because of the smaller gap between point and eye, as you pointed out. I'm currently using the Decoy Jigging Single Sergeant'N'. Have you tried them?
While the shank on the Mustad inline are a little shorter than the Owner, I wonder if it matters all that much. After all, these hooks are designed to be used with a split ring between it and the hanger. I would think that this would give a similar overall length to an open-eye Siwash hook which is clamped directly to the hanger...or maybe not lol.
Great info thanks. I'd like to change my whopper plopper 90mm and 75mm they have the same size hooks. What size inline should I use on those two lures?
They are called inline because the hooks are straight. You can still get inline hooks that have the eye the traditional way like the inline circle hooks trolled for billfish, the hook is inline with itself so it doesn't spin in the water 👌
Right.. nothing to do with the eye... the hook is ‘inline’ with the shank of the hook, it is not offset... I’ve seen guys try to argue w the En Po tell that they were in the right, “we are using circle hooks” ... ya but they weren’t inline... I do have a question tho... Since in MA inline circle hooks are required when using natural baits what size or brand can anyone recommend when rigging eels?
i was under the impression that in-line refers to not offset. I originally thought it was as described here was the case...thanks for making this old fart more confused. hahaha....actually good old Mustad seems to be the value and quality. One question is about the Mustads bend strengths and deformation (flex w/o bending) limits?
All in line hooks are useless unless you use an octopus hook as a Dangler. Because in this state there's no trouble Hooks and there's no barbs or stainless steel without an octopus hook you don't have a catch you only have something that's going tospit it's hook. I wish I could tell you how the hooks work but I'm not allowed to use them

In South Africa these Mustads are sold as Mustad Kaiju hooks. Look exactly the same as those Inline Singles. Great video as always 👍

Thanks for making time to leave the helpful comment!
Could you please put out a video on tackle backpacks for us people who don't have kayaks or boats?

With regards to the sizing of Mustad inline hooks, I suspect they are sized to be a direct replacement for the size treble hook they are replacing.

Can you guys do a review on the st Croix triumph I know tony has one it would be awesome if you could

I absolutely love this splitring scissors
Is there a link for the sizing chart for replacement hooks on lures? Trying to replace the hooks on my Rapala Skitterwalk. Thanks Luke
Size 2 is supposed to be _much_ smaller than 2/0 ; twice as small.
The /0 indicates a larger range, an order of magnitude higher.

The same advice would apply here. We don't recommend split rings if avoidable
What size split rings are on the spook jr?

Is it ok to use #6 owner for 50mm minnow? Thank you for the answer. Coz usually I use mustad size 8, but I think it is larger and thicker.
Great question! Make sure to ask this over on the actual blog or in the community where the coaches spend their time
How do you set the hook with these inline hooks? Same as you would a treble hook or more similar to a single hook lure?

I like the mustad ruthless inline hooks the best personally
looking for mustad 92625 hooks

why can't I find mustad size4 hooks

I love the Mustad inline hooks but they are a pain in the arse to put on a split ring. The eyelets are fat as hell!
I'm pretty sure the Mustad hooks are from the China.
Made in 5 different countries. China is one
@@greenmachine3696, I'd check the packages to make sure they're NOT from China.
The steel Mustad use is from Scandinavia 👍😍
@@WallysSharkrigs I'm a fan of mustad hooks. Grew up using them, VMC and Eagle claw here in Australia 👌
@@greenmachine3696 Great hooks Mustad. Think they sell em in Wilson's in Australia 👍😎
There's only one size difference in gap
