So I have an alternative theory about Saved by the Bell. It was never a teen coming- of- age comedy about the wacky antics of Zak Morris and friends; it was actually the dramatic saga of Screech and his descent into madness and a life of crime. Screech was a highly intelligent and sensitive but nerdy and lonely kid with the social graces of an obese platypus. So he was constantly bullied, belittled, shut down and dismissed whenever he attempted to make friends, thus became desperate for anyone, ANYONE, to give him some attention.
