I remember this match well. It was during his "bad" years, or at least the ones without a slam triumph. Still he never lost his fighting spirit! Thanks for sharing these kind of hidden treasures out there. You show that it doesn't always have to be the most famous matches that are the most memorable :)
Thank you dear friend ❤️
Thanks for the video and the title of the video!
Without question both players were great!
Only contemplate on the following:
1. Majority wins.
2. Might is right.
3. If 2 or more persons ...whatever...!
It was a bad year. The Olympics and Monte Carlo were the only good tournaments he had in 2016. His slam performances were he worst of his career:
AO: 1R
FO: 3R (WD)
W: DNP
USO: 4R
@@ErikCB912 tbh, he had a good level on clay and started roland garros strong but unfortunately he got a wrist injury :(
rafa have one of the most insane mentality I have ever seen.
As a Fed fan, have to say Rafa was so damn humble to take pictures and sign autographs with so many fans after how the crowd was. Awesome stuff.
Surprised he did
Why do you say "as a fed fan"
Doesn't make what you say any different 😂
Rafa has a heart of gold. He doesn't mind when the opponents fan boo him, he understands the nature of the sport, especially the Olympics.
@@Braselton21 to stop toxic fed fans from undermining his statement.
@@keshavganesh1690 Federer and Nadal are great friends, so why fans cant also like these 2.
Considering he had to play singles and doubles without much rest, it's insane that he got the Gold medal in doubles and almost secured a medal in singles too. Rafa's gladiator shit never gets old. 😊
Nicolas Massu (CHILE) won the gold medal in singles and doubles also, the only one who have achieved that in olympics history.
@@robertorondon1538 Rafa has won both too. Did you mean in the same olympics?
@@Sdaniels3152 Yeah Massu won both in 2004
Rafa didn't let a one-sided crowd deter him from his objective. Way to go Rafa!!! I love it when you take selfies with older women in the audience. Your smile and theirs says it all. Really special. Your kindness is always appreciated as is your great sportsmanship.
They booed at him when he got the points
it was the olympics, its not like the Henin crowd in the French Open vs. Serena, know the difference
Rafa is a legend ...
Indeed ❗️💪 Never say die❣️🎾
🐐
As Alwaysssssss !! 😙😙
A living Legend !
holy shit, worse crowd than in the australian open when kyrgios is playing
no wonder. It's olympics, there will be not only tennis fans there. Seriously, I don't see anything outrageous here and am already in the middle of this.
Or roland Garros french crowd
@@MateusHenrique-of4bc The French crowd are always biased, and Nadal got his revenge at them when they booed him hard during his first win there by winning every single Roland Garros for the next decade XD

*until I become a bird
I was looking at this video and compared Nadal's reaction here to Medvedev's in the AO 2022 Final. Nadal respected the crowd even if they weren't supporting him. Medvedev said that they are stupid.
This is why Nadal is loved by everyone. The respect is earned in time. Hopefully Medvedev will learn from him because in terms of tennis he is a very good player. He needs only to improve his temper 🏆🥎🥎🥎🥎
@@lightinthedusk Hopefully he will grow and wake up. He behaves like a teenager, but he is 25. At this age Nadal and Federer were representing tennis at the highest level.
This game of Nadal is a classic example of his mental strength and family values. He knows and understand the people, of course his opponent is their countryman. He just asked a few questions to the umpire but he never showed that he is upset or sad or mad or said any bad words. And then shook his head and then he just focused on his game. Medvedev, Shapovalov, and Zverev are already great players, all they have to learn is how to control their temper and their attitude towards the audiences, the line men/women, the ball boys/girls, and most especially the umpires. There should be no disrespecting.
@@miab4289 I think is all about education
Exactly what am saying. The young generation are insulting the fans because they don't support you like everyone of the greats hasn't been through it and kept their composure. They all have a long way to go..
WOW! This was a tough match. I've never seen a crowd so against Nadal. They seemed to rattle Nadal in the beginning. As a champion, he pulled it in and gained his composure. That final set was easily the Nadal that we all know. He was hitting out on his shots, with confidence. Bellucci played well but Nadal is a Champion. You need more than the home crowd to defeat him. Thank you for posting this. I never saw one tennis match at 2016 Olympics.
this match was different its country againts country, thats why people gave their best to support their own..specially brazil even in football they are biggest supporters of their country..
I did see a similar crowd. The French crowd in Roland Garros during Nadal's first participations. Especially when he played against Gasquet.
@@testingforyoutube That's going way back. I have never seen any matches of his first Roland Garros. I'm guessing that is the year he won his first title?? I have only seen extended highlights of the men's final.
@@andyroo9381 Yes, but it was not only his first participation. The following participations as well. It made me really mad because he was 17, 18 year old. The normal thing to do is to cheer for a new talent. But they managed to be against him. But this also what makes Nadal firsts victories that more impressive. 17 year old, the crowd against him but he still won.
its the olympics. its not about tennis,..imagine Serena playing the Paris Olympics just against a White person
Rafa's probably the last person you wanna antagonize on the tennis court
I'd put Djokovic as first.
Rafa kept his head down and fought for the win, celebrating points with no one else cheering for him. Respect to players who don't wave for crowd support
How can you not love Rafa? These people don't know big 3 or what? I mean you can support who you want. But disrespecting such a legend is a shame.
Bro Djokovic has been booed in the middle of matches for a lifetime

Those British announcers are as negative as bean gas.
Oh well, Rafael Nadal is not held down by critics or announcers.
You go, Mr. Nadal!!!
What a hostile crowd and hat's off to Nadal's mental strength!
I mean, people cheering when Nadal missed first serves.... hmmm.
If you mess with the bull, YOU GET THE HORNS.
🤟
What a gentleman. Not only did he survive the hostile crowd but he won them over in the end.
Todo el público en contra de de Rafa que sinvergüenzas .
We can clearly say those people probably confused this with a football stadium
Lmao, yup so right. Hate them.
This is a OLYMPIC game, not the usual tennis tournament.
@@CalazaBR It's a tennis tournament for the Olympics what are you saying
For real I hate when they act like this and the umpire does nothing, he should have ask for silence
Yup! Ignorant fanatics will use every excuse to make an environment tense and hectic without really a reason, it kinda goes beyond the sport/match at that point. That's unfortunately how most crowds are in SA countries (shows how people are in general too).
I think Medvedev should see this to brighten his spirit, knowing that Nadal also had his moments like this! No need to feel bad for yourself, Daniil, you are not the first to experience such awful crowd and surely, will not be the last!!! Cheer up, man, you have a bright future in tennis!!!
what an inspiration nadal is man. he dealt with such a loud disencouragement but still came through winning.
Nadal just came off a wrist injury too! He was not fully healed, and still managed to play in the bronze medal game. He would have won gold that year had it not been for the wrist injury. We all know he would have beat Murray, JDP, or KN (Japan) if he was healthy. He ended up shutting it down in October (about 2 months after Olympics) because of the wrist!
Rafe is truly a legend he never give up no matter what
What a player he is..RAFA
take a bow 👏
Strong nerves strong temperament
A lesser player would have been blown away under these bear-pit circumstances but Rafa toughed it out like a champ, amazing grit
Well, this is time to quote Mulan's Emperor : "the flower which blossom in adversity is the rarest and most beautiful of all"
Crowd support in tennis I think is a very underrated variable in who wins. Many players have left the court crying and loosing when the crowd is against them. It’s probably the fact that the player is a lone and very at the whim of the crowd while they are competing. The fact that Nadal can manage this variable in such a positive way is says a lot about his mental strength and character and obviously his skill as a tennis player.
Brazillian is born soccer
BUT
Nadal is born tennis

Bellucci was #21 of the world and a good shots, with victories against Murray and Berdych, but 6-2 in the first set was a big surprise and the comeback wasn't a surprise. Greetings from Brazil.
This is nothing compared to when Bjorn Borg played Adriano Panatta in the Italian Open finals. As Borg was winning the match, the Italian crowd started throwing coins on Borg's side of the court to distract him. Borg won the match but never played in Rome afterwards.
One of my favourite match is Davis cup 2019..Nadal was at beast mode that time
I’m Canadian and I was in the arena during the final. The atmosphere was pretty much like this one. He absolutely destroyed us tho.

yes literally Novak plays every grand slam final like this lol
Yeah have to say I agree with this. Djokovic definitely the strongest mentally of the three.
look at him at 2,11 minute.his face like why they dont support me
@@shabarikailash Deservedly so. I am not taking anything away from his achievements, but he is a dick off court and is literally dangerous with his remarks about covid.
Novak fans cut the crap with this victimization attitude. He’s welcome pretty well in the majority of stadiums with some few exceptions. Yes, against Federer all players have this problem as media created almost a cult, that’s why the public never will support the opposing players.
Wow! This was quite a situation! For both players. Very impressive. A show of character. Bravo!👍 🇨🇦
The thing is , Federer would never encounter such hostile crowd, even in Roland Garros you would hear a 50-50 cheers when he plays against Monfils
Difference is this is not France and this is not a grand slam where typically nationalism factor is less. This is the Olympics, fans are mostly not tennis fans (u can see them cheering a missed first serve).

Best scene is at the start...Rafa talking to those "policewomen" to let him go to the court...and those women were i guess instructed not to let him go... ha ha ha...too funny... extremely poor organization by brazil olympic committee... horrid way to treat a multitime champion and former gold medallist...and they did everything they could to prevent rafa from winning literally anything in the singles... just too bad... i almost thought it was monica belluci...:-) :-) they support an unknown just becz he is their countryman...
supporting a player from your country is bad now?
@@user-ci7vu7eo9w nothing wrong with supporting the player from your country...but the problem is big if you deploy guards at the exit who make a great champion kid wait for many minutes after the other competitor's name has been called - on video it is nearly 2 minutes it may have been more than that because Rafa is waiting with all that load on him to go out - he is even talking to those women who are literally barring him from walking - as if he is under arrest or some such... is that the way to treat an olympic contestant (even if it was not Rafa Nadal)...? just too much...!!! take a look at roland garros or AO or USO...the 2 players are called to the court within seconds of each other...not like this...
How did u manage to say such a big shit... Bellucci was a great player especially in Brazil

Estava lá e torci para o Rafael!
Bellucci vs Rafa. Brazil is his homecourt. One shouldn't think its about beating a lesser player because if you do you're missing the forest for the trees. This is the Olympics and national pride is at stake. Clearly not the usual tennis audience. They want their man to win for his country and they rooted for him. Who wouldn't? In fact the title of this video is accurate. Bellucci rose to the occasion and the raucous atmosphere helped carry him. But for me this proves that Rafa cannot and will not allow anyone, any collective audience to diminish his valor, his focus to fight for every point, to perform at his absolute best. This was a tough contest. Tennis rules were neither imposed nor observed. I feel Jake Garner could've established a semblance of order early on. This is after all the Olympics where sportsmanship is expected. This makes me love, admire and want to emulate Rafa even more. This reveals to all the eyes of the world the kind of person Rafa truly is. Bravo Rafa. Bravo Wivo for sharing this with us.
not that much, i’ve seen worse crowds in roland garros. and they applauded him in the end anyways.
Who hates Rafa in Rolland Garros ?
I think, even if the match would be NADAL vs a player of FRANCE, the crowd would cheer for Rafa after what he has done throughout his career for french open.
