At 14:20 I removed the balance assembly from the donor movement and then stated that there was no power left in the movement. As @Grinder-one points out below, the power can not escape the mainspring in an uncontrolled release until the pallet fork is removed. I know this, but I temporarily forgot about it when I was making this video. If I had followed through with further disassembly of the donor movement the next step to check if power remained in the mainspring would have been to push the fork back and forth and observe if it appeared to be snapping from left to right and if the pallet gear was advancing with each snap. If both of those conditions were met that would have been evidence that power did remain in the mainspring. But since all I was doing was removing the balance assembly complete I never got to the point of removing the pallet fork and none of this matters. 😂😂😂
Love everything in this video. Yay for India -- I've learned so much from working on inexpensive (don't say cheap!) India specials.. the Oris is amazing - I love early mechanical quartz... fingers crossed for you..( you need the large case back opener ! The Ali one is fine !)
Thanks! Yeah I do need the large caseback opener but I'm holding out for a used one in Switzerland. The Aliexpress shipping is too high on heavy stuff and everything I buy from China ends up being a placeholder for a vintage Swiss version of the same.
Remember, you don't have to let the power down if you're just removing the balance because the Pallet fork is still doing it's job in stopping the power from escaping. If you do need to let the power down on a watch without a winding stem, just use a good fitting screwdriver in the Ratchet wheel screw and let the power down the same as you would through the Crown.
Transitional watch (quartz) movements are very intresting working on a ronda 377 now 6 jewels its a great rabbit hole to go down.. i have a tissot jump hour eta quarts. kept it for myself ... wen i have the time i look voor the box, send you a foto of that mainspring cutter..
I'll check out the Ronda 377! When are you going to start making videos!? You should have a channel just to illustrate your comments if nothing else! I'd love that but it would be great for a lot of people, not just me. 😀
@@IMakeWatches just orderd a good camera you are saying what i am thinking yes i am gone start my channel... lot of people a saying this so i take as a sign!
That’s good to know! I watched your “unbreakable” video last night! Great video! I’ve always wanted to do that and I live in a 26 floor building with public exterior walkways (which is as unusual as it sounds). So the only reason I have not done so is fear of being arrested by the Swiss police after the video came out. But about your 100 meter drop, was there not a possibility that it would fall on your head? Or was it dropped that precisely?
@@IMakeWatches Thank you! Had so much fun making that. Full safety measures were taken throughout by eyeballing it and working out "it'll probably land over there". Never saw it, heard the THUNK as it buried itself into the ground, then took 2-3 hours to find it.
Yes, I have a habit of not wanting to use the stem and crown because I learned on ETA movements, I think the 2783 in particular, how easy it is to mess up the keyless works every time I insert or remove the stem. It's an easy fix when that happens but it's under the date ring on the 2783 so it takes some time. And like I said, that fear led me to the bad practice of not using the stem and crown even on movements that are much less likely to have issues with the keyless works.
Yes! Especially if it’s running fast because that is symptom of a magnetized balance spring (two or more rings stick together effectively shortening the spring and causing it to vibrate faster).
Thanks for this comment, Mike, but are you saying that I should have used a screwdriver, or pointing out that I shouldn't have? Corrective comments are welcome, particularly if you think it will help others, and don't hesitate to mention the time in the video that the comment applies to.

I've never had an issue with the 'for parts' movements I've got from India either. Always been as described and pretty cheap.

Could you not have used the stem and crown from the MUFF to let the power down? Making work for yourself

First demagnetize the movement

Use a screwdriver on the ratchet wheel!

Just use a screwdriver to hold and slowly release power on ratchet wheel if stem is not there.
Got it! Thanks! 😂
