That’s so funny! I remember when I was younger my mom use to slather lotion on me every morning before school. I hated it but my skin was super smooth and never dry.

Yea lmao, we get ashy just not to the level of most black folk, it has to do with adapting to a dry cold climate, I used to use lotion almost every time I got out of the shower but not anymore because I don’t take warm to hot showers (which is usually what pulls all of the moisture out of your skin) cold showers prevent from stripping out the natural oils.

I'm Mestizo and Native American, and I've worked in healthcare in geriatrics for over a decade, started at about 26-27 years old. Within less than a year, all my black ladies had me lotioning up my knees and elbows, because apparently I'm ashy as fuck. So thank you, my favorite extensive care and total care ladies, for letting me know that I needed to lotion the hell up.

I am white and I use Cocoa butter and coconut body butter. Even before I used lotion and butters etc I was never really affected with dry skin but it smells great and keeps me moisturised so I will continue using them. Great reaction
I'm native American. Some European in there from my dad's side. I didn't know about the ashy thing. I dated a black lady for about a year who was a model. Never could figure out why she was always putting on lotion. Then I had a couple room mates who were models (who weren't black), and they were always putting on lotion. I guess it never hit my tribal region. Probably down to the fact most of us end up covered in WD-40 or cooking grease before noon.

I don't know. My ancestors were desert people. Arizona and New Mexico. Could be results of being in a climate we're adjusted to by being there so long. Regardless of what the climate is. It's an interesting thing, though. I get dry skin on my hands, but it's all just callouses and a kind of sandpaper texture, not the typical ashiness. I really don't have a good answer.
This is honestly one of the fakest fake brags I’ve ever seen. Like, first of all, unless you actually realize that most “models” are just attention starved girls who habitually photograph themselves, then you’ve never lived with, much less dated, a model.
And then there’s the native thing. “Some European in there on my dad’s side” yeah, so basically you’re a white dude who went on ancestry and found out you had a great great great great grandmother who was a Native American 200 years ago.

Actual working models, who were getting paid for their photoshoots. Not getting paid much, so they had to live with friends. And yes, my father had European ancestry. My mother DOESN'T.
You can think whatever you want, because obviously you're one of those people who never lets a low level of intelligence get in the way of forming a strong opinion about something, but do not insult my friends or my ex. Being a model is a profession. It is very hard work, and you have no idea how much they suffered for any accomplishment in that field. Maybe you should open your mind before you open your mouth.

I'm a white guy. I first learned about lotion to not be ashy my first year of teaching at a school that was 100% POC. I was 30 at the time. And for the record, I still don't use lotion and I'm still ashy. If I scratch my nails into my arms, it looks like its snowing.

that would be a must especially when you're in a cold country or when a person who normally have a dry skin. white sweaty dude skin can not be ashy except during winter i suppose.
If you exfoliate (use a good natural sponge, and a high fat soap) and then make sure your diet is clean, and your getting enough water, you don't have to worry about lotion.
Lotion is good in the winter as just another layer to keep you warm, but the skin gets hydrated from the inside out, not the outside in.

First time viewer. You guys just showed up in my recommended. I really enjoyed your energy and spirit. One thing to consider, if you plan to keep creating content like this, which, ... I hope you do intend to because you're fun to watch and I think you could start making some extra scratch off of it pretty soon,... you guys have GOT to upgrade your sound card and get an external mic. You can buy an EXTERNAL sound card, that just plugs into one of your USB ports, that is professional grade, at resonable prices. MAKE SURE you check reviews and ratings. I'll recommend a good one across the board, but I don't know anything about your setup. I use an M-Audio Mobile Pre in my actual production studio, that I can unplug and take with me and use on my laptop if I need to. Not only does it have 2 XRL mic inputs (the big endings on a mic cord with the 3 metal dots in it), but 2 1/4" inputs (the big ended headphone jacks that usually only come on high-end headphones) for use with any other audio input devices. It has 2 outputs in 1/4" (speaker cables to run to external sound system, because it also acts as a professional upgrade for your sound OUTPUT as well), and lastly, a seperate headphone jack that can monitor either the output of the computer sound, or the unprocessed input of whatever is going into the computer. It's easy to use, plug and play. Now, my model is outdated... which means only that they don't sell it or service it any longer. HOWEVER, I've been in a professional producer for over 30 years, living on a radio broadcaster's salary... so , once I buy a piece of equipment, I take care of it because I'd rather buy something else in the future instead of replacing it. I research the shit out of everything I buy, even if I'm completely ignorant about it, I'll do my best before I invest. So, the model I have, has never needed servicing... to the point it's become outdated as far as keeping up with newer versions. It works beautifully as far as function goes, which tells me,.. when mine does finally give out, I'll buy another M-Audio sound card to replace it. Obviously my research was solid. Or, I wouldn't recommend it to you.
But, your beautiful voices would sound so much clearer and less muffled and bass-y with a sound card and mic upgrade. If you'd like some help picking out a mic, I'd be happy to recommend something with a little more information, just shoot me an email from my website and my marketing manager will let me know to get back with you.

A lot of dry skin is seborrheic dermatitis caused by a yeast in your skin which LOVES moisture and feeds off your skin secretions so too much lotion can backfire in the long run. Cream containing urea is very good at clearing up outbreaks and the shampoo is the best for scalp dandruff - and it doesn't smell like pee.

So weird thing for me with being ashy (white guy) is I didn't notice because I used to make knives, and a casual way knife makers check if it's properly sharp is to see if it will take the hair off your arm!!
I was sharpening enough blades in my teens to early twenties that my arms were hairless to the shoulder! And because of that, never noticed the dry skin because it was always scraped off/exfoliated 😆
