I (a white person) lived in East DC for a year and nobody ever bothered me, and that was the capital-H ghetto hood, with a crackhouse on the corner like 300 feet from my house. Also, I am pretty sure that Burr's wife is the woman he is talking about in this bit.

Holy shit! I didn't know y'all was in Ohio. I'm from Youngstown. I'm straight white boy from the ghetto of Youngstown. And I lived on MLK Blvd there. And I've been in Tampa for 13 years and I'm right down the street from MLK in Tampa, my brother just left to get his ID at the tax collector on MLK just a half hour ago lol. Crazy ironic on this vid.

New subscriber. And Bill is right. I'm white and I have three pairs of shoes... old combat boots for wearing with jeans, sneakers (no name), and a pair of shiny church shoes. I own four pairs of pants and maybe ten shirts. That's it. To me clothes are to keep the weather off and nothing more. My wife is black and she is always looking crisp. It's funny because our differences really work. We respect each other and every day is a new adventure.
In Eugene Oregon, Martin Luther King Blvd. runs through a pretty pricy hood, and right past Autzen stadium as well. Very nice neighborhood.
You're totally right about people staring in the suburbs. I was 14 when i moved from NYC, to Phoenix Az. And in phx, everyone stares. It really was a culture shock for me
Yo I'm in AZ people stare based on the way you dress & cops will follow you depending on the hood you're driving through. Especially if you have more than one person in the vehicle at night.

Doesn't need to be costly, I understand, but being thrifty and cautious, in my experience, is the best bet.
Our my mom always made her way (with my sister and me) to the clearance section and taught us to check the seams and hems prior to purchasing anything. Our mom's mom (deceased since I was about 11, my sister 14) Grandma, taught those things and our mom passed those tips down to my sister and to me.

... The neighbor that called the cops on the realtor was a old retired cop that said he SAW them jimmy/pick the lock, thus the response was immediate. However, they used the realtor box and key, so they were totally in the right. That old cop was a disgrace.

I know I'm a year late, but I gotta ask this. How do you NOT crease your shoes? The moment I take a single step in brand new shoes they get creased. Cos that's how human feet work, they bend at the toes. How does one walk without putting your weight through your toes or ball of your foot? Without bending your feet at all? You gotta walk flat-footed or something? I honestly don't understand it at all.

To anyone wondering why just about every Martin Luther King JR AVE/DR is in some of the hardest, poorest black neighborhoods. It is called appeasement. The city back in the day to attempt keeping black residents happy, and to show they "respected black rights" would change a streets' name to MLK. BUT, obviously they couldn't put it too close to white neighborhoods, what good would it do there, the name change would be wasted there. They needed the street to be in the most destitute black neighborhoods to make it seem like the city cared about them and keep the votes coming in for them.

I’m a 6’1” tall white dude with blue eyes who’s last name is Wood and lived in Oakland Ca in the deep east and deep west for more than 12 years. I never had a problem that was race related. I did however see white people have problems and 99% of the time it was because of the white person making prejudicial assumptions when engaged with someone of another race. Not even in a hateful way. Just making ignorant assumptions rather than taking the time to learn someone’s truth first hand. I myself however always engage others with a fearless confidence and the same respect I show my grandmother. I’ve even found myself in friendship with individuals that I later learned were potentially very dangerous and had a reputation of dishonesty. They just never behaved that way with me or in my company. I figure it’s one of two things. First is that I don’t carry myself like a victim. So I’m not treated like one. Second, is that I allowed that individual an opportunity to show their best self by not immediately pigeon holing them as a criminal by acting some kind of way around them. As if they were incapable of acting with honor. This is just my personal experience in the hood. Doesn’t mean I was dumb enough to stay at the house party past 11:00pm or let myself get stumbling drunk and try to walk my happy ass home alone either.
