    I mean, sure plastic sounds like a genius material for the paddle in the pump spinning at high RPM while being subjected to extremely hot petroleum and intense engine heat. What could possibly go wrong..........lol. Chevy money saving at its finest!!! I've replaced this pump twice on my step daughters Malibu. I know it's just the way it is now, Jeep decided to use plastic on my oil pump housing.........but still. For 40 to 60 grand, I'd expect metal lol.

    I think a belt driven aftermarket option would be a good idea. To reduce the risk of damaging the camshaft.

      I was thinking too but if you lose the belt you lose power and brakes maybe a battery powered one

    How about a soft or sponge like brake pedal the only thing I could find is when I grab the hose that goes into the brake booster and wiggle it around air escapes it .

    How you replace the oil seal on the valve cover?

  • @TheMuskyMafia

    Is it common for these to leak oil? Mine has not failed but I'm at 95k and there is Def oil coming out of the bottom of this where it meets the engine. I think they should redesign this with a bearing that is on the cover which bolts and presses on the spinning part to eliminate the scoring and wear on cover. But yea mines leaking and I can see little puddles on the trans where there is like the waffle looking dents from the casting

    Do you think I’d have to replace mine cause mines been leaking from the seal but idk if I should buy a vacuum pump I’m at 145,000 km on my 2017 you think it hinders the affect of a turbo to when it goes bad or what are some signs that you have a bad vacuum pump on these cars ?

      I’d say replace the pump. It’s about 90 bucks. If it goes bad, your brake pedal will stiffen up and you will not be able to stop fast enough. Happened to me. Fortunately, no one was in front of me.

    My brake pedal got hard. I watched some videos and replaced the pump. It was broken inside. But the new one made the car work fine again. But the same day on the way home my pedal got hard again. I checked the pump and no suction.im guessing its broken again but why?

      That’s a huge bummer. Check to see if it’s getting oil. I believe there is a strainer on the port

    I replaced this part on my GMC Terrain but now it’s leaking, you think it’s a torquing issue?

    • @spankranchgarage
      @spankranchgarage  Рік тому

      Possibly. It could be leaking either from the cam seal or the gasket

    This pos just failed in my wifes 2017 Malibu Lt, Why did GM put this hunk of junk on here to run the power brake booster instead of just pulling manifold(Plastic) vacuum? Does anyone know what the readings are at the manifold? I dont have a scanner anymore so I cant check. I would love to be able to block it off and run the line to the intake or throttle body, maybe like a thin spacer with a port coming off of it...

    • @spankranchgarage
      @spankranchgarage  2 роки тому

      You can certainty pull vac off the manifold like a normal car. But beware if your car is turbocharged you need a checkvalve and will have very minimal brake assist in boost. I imagine thats part of why GM did this.

    I had this explode in my 2016 Chevy Malibu a week ago and now Chevy dealership trying to charge me $4,100.00 to repair camshaft timing belt and vacuum pump mind you the engine don’t cost that much maybe a little less than $2000 bucks I’m thinking of having someone else look at it
