What does the dye on the outer hull strips represent? Is it supposed to approximate tar sealant, or is it just to look like walnut?
Well, it's been set to give it a different color tone, more nutty as you said. If you look at the "original" model, this is completely different in terms of design

No worry, in the Next videos i use bowls, its easier, but less challenging
Such a shame the sails included are of bad quality with out of scale thickness and serger
