      This year's finals have a horrible field. Lots of servebot pushers (Zverev, Medvedev, Hurkacz, Djokovic), a bunch of brainless forehand ballbashers (Berrettini, Rublev), and only two guys whose game is based on controlled aggression, but one of them is injured (Tsitsipas), and one is primarily a claycourter (Ruud)
      This sport desperately needs Thiem and Nadal back

      It amazes me that he has not won a WTF, considering his form in both the 2019 and 2020 editions. That being said, the Austrian lost to Medvedev, who was also in spectacular form. Had Nadal finished the job in the semis vs the Russian, Thiem probably would have won the final.

    • @romkir2802
      @romkir2802 2 роки тому +1

      It was one of his biggest problems that he underperformed in finals being the favourite. Everyone expected US Open final 2020 to be straight sets affair, but Thiem was not himself for 1,5 of sets due to nervousnes. If he had not recovered then, it would have been even the worse case of a player destroyed by the inner psychological drama (being physically OK) than the case of Novak Djokovic in US 2021.

    ATP Finals 2020 is the last tournament Thiem played in top tier level, after that comes the irreversible decline...

    Extremely weird footage. Some of the points are filmed on a choppy 30 fps, others on a smooth 60 fps, doesn't do these beautiful highlights any justice...

    I was watching this again today while eating and saw that Thiem retiring end of this season on Instagram... Such an amazing player, wished he never had that wrist injury. Man wish we could see him play against Alcaraz with his 2020 form
