    Thank you for the video. It truly helped me. Please note (and maybe this makes for the result to be slightly thicker fog), if you're goal is a 25% solution of Glycerin, the ratio used in the video is wrong. The total volume of the solution made in this example is 30 fl oz. Therefore, the solution created in this video was a 20% mixture. A 25% mixture of glycerin in this example would have required 6 oz glycerin to 18 oz water (24 total oz) or 8 oz of glycerin to 24 oz water (32 total oz).
    To solve for the amount of water to use to reach your desired dilution: (volume glycerin / desired solution strength) - volume glycerin. Example: (6oz / .25) - 6oz = 24 - 6 = 18.
    OR to make it really simple, if you want a 25% solution, that is simply 3 parts to 1 part mixture, so 6 oz glycerin * 3 = 18 oz water (resulting in a total volume of 24 oz). Simply: Amount of Glycerin * 3 to know the amount of water to add if you want a 25% mixture.

      Thanks for confirming that I'm not crazy. I've seen several sites follow this guy's recipe and say it is 25% and I keep thinking that makes no sense. Twenty-five percent would equal a 1/4 part composed of glycerine.

      Unfortunately, it's very common for tutors to copy each other's videos, including their mistakes. I see this ALL THE TIME with guitar lessons. You can get six of the top UA-cam guitar tutors all teaching a part with the same mistake in it.

    I just made some. I used a 3 to 1 mixture. 8oz glycerin to 24oz distilled water. If you buy a gallon of distilled water and make this, you can technically then fill the remainder of the gallon with glycerine and have the same 25% mixture. Oh yea. I tested it out indoors and with 3 30 second shots the room has been filled with fog for over a half hour.

      The numbers are wrong though. Most say 30% so if you wanted to make 1 Gallon of the mix at 30% glycerin it would be 128oz * .30 = 38.4 Oz of gylcerin or we can just round it down and say 38oz of Glycerin which is 4 3/4 cups of glycerin added to 128oz * .70 = 90 oz (rounded up) of distilled water. So a good formula is 90oz (which is 3 quarts minus one 3/4 cup) and 38oz of glycerin (4 and 3/4 Cups) . I didn't go to college but I paid attention to my free public schooling in years K-12.

    Something's wrong. If you add 6 oz of glycerin and 24 oz of water, your solution will be 20% glycerin, not 25%. In order for your solution to be 25% glycerin, you need to add only three (not four) parts of water per part of glycerin.

Ohhhhh if you want to do it easily it is basic 8th grade Algebra.... X * 0.25 = 6 Solve for X that would be the TOTAL AMOUNT of solution. X = 6/.25 X = 24 Another way of looking at this simple equation is $1.00 * .25% = 25 Cents Sooooo if I gave you a quarter and said that is 25% of a dollar that would be true right??? • @jrkeyesful

    I am trying to do the math here: 1 gallon of store bought fogger juice is around $19.00. Your Glycerin is $4.00 for 6 oz, which you mix with distilled water to get 30 oz. So if I skip the distilled water cost, the home made version is $4.00 for 30 oz. 1 gallon is 128 oz., divided by 30 oz., that means I get 4.266 batches for $4.00 per batch to be equivalent to store bought. So 4.266 x $4.00 is $17.06. Slightly cheaper, but not much, than store bought at $19.00. I was looking at the video to save money, but not sure you are much / worth it. I do think it is a great video, I am just making sure I am not missing something on the math.

    • @doublereno

    would it be ok to use RO (Filtered) Water instead of Distilled Water? My RO gets my water all the way down to less than 20ppm Sometimes even less than 10ppm. Seems the reason to use the "Distilled" Water is to keep minerals and contaminants from clogging up the machine and with as little as 20 parts per million dissolved solids > It seems to me that it would be fine. ??? Am I missing something here? A gallon is 128 oz, you would need 27oz (4.5 bottles of glycerin) to make a full gallon of 20% fog juice. The glycerin is almost $10 a bottle, so you would be looking at a $46 dollar bottle of fog juice (including the gallon of distilled water for 99 cents). Even the most premium fog fluids are less than that.

    What type of glycerin works best and do you need to use distilled water?

    • @Bartetmedia

      90 to 100% pure Vegetable glycerin. Distilled water keeps your fog machine from clogging compared to tap water.

    • @ERICtheLATE
      @ERICtheLATE 5 років тому

      For the sesonal user for Halloween decor, or a party or two a year, a thin mix is better. If you forget to rinse run your fogger, it will likely survive because of low glycerin content. A thick mix will evaoprate the smaller amount of water and be like jello in the fogger heater and pump.

      Toaster Enthusiast bottled water has a ton of minerals in it too, added for the taste, but it's just different mix than what's in tap water. Buy distilled water, it's the only "pure" water that you can buy, other than lab-grade deionized water....
