Quick tip: If you go to a place that sells paint - like home depot here in the States - you can grab all the color sample cards and then send them the one that matches the leather you are trying to recolor. You can usually find a perfect match and no need to mess with sending them something you need returned. I did this when I recolored the seats in my SUV many years ago and they were semi-custom so there was no looking up a GM color code.
I know how to machine polish, clean wheels, engine bays etc. I thought I knew how to look after my leather seats until I saw the videos on here. Learnt so much - thanks John!
I've checked the prices on the colourlock website underr£70 for the products.and from watching your video a few times Its sunk in how to repair, clean and protect.my leather seats.i will be investing before the end of this year.many THANKS.!!!!.
Super information.i done what you done jon.bought a black eye of e bay to repair a scratch on my black bolster.it looks better but not perfect.the cars only 6years old so the wear is not that bad.ill have to invest in some colour lock products next year and after watching some more of your leather videos.GREAT information top marks!!.
That's. Great that you get a discount.even a little discount is better than no discount.money's tight for me at the moment that's why I can't purchase the leather stuff at the moment it's on the list.i do have one question for you.from watching the angle wax review.would you recommend that I use deironised water or mineral water in my windscreen washer jets??.I have always used mineral water.£3 for 5 liters in sainsbury's.which one would you recommend that I use please jon.
hey sam.. no we didnt talk about this. lots of intricate areas within the whole leather "thing" really... vast in terms of things to potentially talk about, had to chop lots of it away out the edit to keep it digestable as well.. but lots more things will come on leather.. and if you have any specific questions fire them off and Ram will be more than happy to help..
On my leather ive noticed a white patch near where the latch would be to move the seat forward. Hopefully just oily residue from people's fingers. im really considering getting the colourlock pack which comes with leather cleaner, leather shield and a sponge and i think cloths. My car has done 116k miles so the strong leather cleaner may be needed even though it looks clean. The only thing im wondering if you can fix is creased leather. Greetings from Turkey :)
anything can be fixed but leather seats will develope crease lines.. say you fill, re-emboss and recolor the leather will prolly find somewhere else will crease in its place near it... so I wouldnt personally repair creases unless you have like a failure of the color coat and its cracked paint on the crease etc.. The cleaners are very good and very appropriate for leather cleaning.. theres lots of videos with products recomendations.. lots of conditioners and feed products.. etc.. lots of videos using DIY homebrew stuff or bulk products.. the thing with colorlock is everything they tell you about how to clean and maintain leather and what harms it etc.. its all true and based on a very solid understanding of the composition of leather and whats best for it. Im looking to do videos which can show you this.. so like they say friction damage is the number one enemy of a car seat... so show why the products help with that.. Show why wetting leather over time dries it out and what happens to dry leather and compare that with treated leather.. IE does it stay more supple? if it does do you want dry leather or soft supple leather as a consumer? looking at the PH of leather and why their cleaners are made the way they are (leather isnt PH neutral by the way, so if your looking to avoid altering the composition of the leather from products which are left behind if you can match the PH of it you will alter it less) that and as much good consumer information so even if you dont use the colorlock products you will understand more what to look for.. thats the aim of this series. these products have really helped me improve the way I keep my seats in a really decent condition.

every time I do these leather videos I learn a hell of a lot to.. been great to get ram and colorlock involved.
9 out of 10 people will be rubbing in conditioner to their new seats (like I was!) when they just need a protector to look after the top coat.

This is just a wealth of information! Not as sexy as the latest ceramic hydrophobic quartz plus pro coating blah blah, but God it is helpful.
This is the video I have been waiting for.
Couldn't click fast enough.

Hi Jon. Great video yet again. Did Ram mention anything about how work with contracting stitching colours?
