This game's popularity was so widespread that even my Dad would borrow my DS to play. The newest games he still plays are Dr Mario and Tetris on NES and Gameboy.
Indeed, plus many like to hate on the series claiming it has "too many sequels," (despite there being only one NewSMB game for every new system every 5 years) or because they don't "do anything new." (While hypothetically bashing original games for being "gimmicky," and praising games like Madden or FPS sequels.) Do they want to go back to how it was when there were no new sidescrolling Mario games sense the Gameboy game Super Mario Land 2? Seriously, that is over a decade gap from 1992 to 2006's NewSMB for DS.
I really want a new 3D mario adventure style game. 3D World was more of a new spin on the 2D linear games. The last true 3D game was what? Galaxy 2 in 2010? So it's been almost 6 years.
Did you know? The title ''New Super Mario Bros'' is actually a lie, as the Mario Bros you play as aren't new at all, they were the same characters from the original game all along.
I still find it kinda sad that nobody ever mentions NSMB U. I know it was the forth in the series, but it was still pretty damn creative with its level design and extra features like challenge mode.
This is, in my opinion, one of the best games ever made. It's so simple and fun, and when it came out it was portable! You could just play this fun little game for hours anywhere you were! And on top of that, it had fun minigames, some of which could be up to 4 players! And the versus mode was some of the best fun I've had with my brother ever. It's one of my fondest memories to just screw around and compete for star coins during a road trip. Such a masterful game.
+ivan2294 I really liked the first two. The first one was portable and the second had four players, which was fun. After that, it became repetitive and crappy to me.
5:33 "Okay, we need to strike a good balance between accessibility and challenge in the next NSMB. Any suggestions?" "Ooh, how about we make it so that if the player has too much trouble, the game beats the level for them?" "That is an absolutely perfect and lazy way to solve this dilemma! Let's do it!"
I think it's funny how a game that's almost a decade old now is still called "new". :P It's kind of redundant. Silly how the "new" 3DS will suffer the same fate in the future.
+Purple Villager Apparently in Japan, the word "new" on something meant that it sounded better or something. Definitely doesn't have the same effect here.
+Purple Villager I've always took it as "new" meaning that it's something different from the original 2D platforming Super Mario Bros. line of games. So "New Super Mario Bros." and the "new" meaning it's a start of a new era of 2D Mario games.
+llproductions2006 There are three tracks: * The one you can hear in the E3 2005 trailer * The one that is in the final versions of the game, but is unused (BGM_CHIJO) * The one used in the game (BGM_VS_CHIJOU)
Man this video is nostlagic... brings back memories of not just the first Mario game i ever played, but also the first Video game i ever played. Thanks Nintendo DS XL, for introducing me... to the world of video games...
05:17 I loved using the Super Mushroom against the Giant Goomba. In fact I especially enjoyed using it in the final boss stage against Bowser and Bowser Jr.
+DarkLink1996 nsmbu is arguably the best in the series with great powerups (including the new acorn suit which is much better than the propeller suit) and the most challenging/rewarding game in the series. The only problem with it is the time it came out. Nsmb2 though I have no excuses for. They complained about new super mario bros being too easy and yet the somehow found a way to make its direct sequel easier. the coin gimmick was boring and only succeeded in giving you too many lives and all the power ups and bosses were reused from other better games. Nsmb2 is not a bad game it is perfectly playable and kinda fun, but it is the worst game in the series and showed exactly what was wrong with the Mario series at that time.
+ShyGuyXXL Did you know? "New" is just a localization quirk, they're trying to use a naming convention that only makes sense in Japan. They're pretty much going for "new and shiny" exciting, not fresh exciting. The Japanese wording means a bit more than it does elsewhere.
WolvesbaneNetwork It had deep implications about the meaning of life, and how to solve all of our social disconnections in one go. Also, yeah, it probably had "first lol".
I love Beta64 and DYK Gaming and so I think it's really cool to see that Beta64 ended up in a video on a channel very similar to his own. He should be in DYK Gaming videos more often. He deserves it.
+Muhammad Gheith Stop with the having lives excuse, people with lives still play video games when they can, specially the casual ones like Mario Bros, easy or hard does not matter. Difficult games doesn't mean you have to waste all day to finish a hard level in mario bros, you can always stop and play later
Warrax im sorry? I'm the one who's making up a dumb excuse? Clearly I'm not because thats what Miyamoto concluded was the actual case, that people must've just not had the time or effort to play through a mario game without dedicating alot more to it >_>
When I first played this game the music affecting the enemies caught me completely off guard. A few seconds later though, I decided I loved it. Good call, Kondo!
1. He didn't specify main-series games. 2. It is a main-series game. 3. He didn't specify that you have to play as Mario. 4. There are parts where you play as Mario.
essengeebee I think most people don't really consider it to be in the main series because for the majority of the game you play as Yoshi, who controls completely differently to Mario, and the levels are designed differently to how they would be in a Mario game. It doesn't really matter to be honest, this is a pretty stupid thing to argue about :P
I have been playing mario games ever since the release of super Mario world on SNES. And these new games they have been releasing have not disappointed me in fact they only keep my interest and love for the franchise stronger. Thank you for an amazing childhood and still being one of my favorite games.
Man, this video brought back so many nostalgic memories... and then made me feel old when I realized these games started coming out almost ten years ago : /
If I'm not mistaken, the music used in the E3 2005 trailer WAS used in the game. It was used for the local Mario VS Luigi multiplayer mode. The music just sounds a little different.
I love this game so much. New Super Mario Bros. was my very first game for the Nintendo DS and one of my favorite installments on said system. It was just so perfect and was pretty challenging for me since I was playing it at a young age. I loved how each of the bosses were actually different and not just the Koopalings from Super Mario Bros. 3 and Super Mario World. I especially love how Petey Piranha was added in World 5
I owned this game for a week and loved it so much, my friend who was moving came over one day and I never saw my game or him again. I haven't played it since.
I'm actually a big fan of yours, Beta64. You probably don't remember it, but I met you at the Super SmashFest at Best Buy in 2014. You gave me a business card (which I still have)
I now want to see how those prehistoric and mechanical themes would’ve turned out as worlds… especially the mechanical one. It doesn’t even have to follow the cliché Distopian vibe, just flesh out the clock tower themes from _Super Mario 64_ and _Super Mario 3D Land_. (Also, please make the music that of the latter, thanks.)
I remember when I was playing this game, I loved how the enemies danced. one time, I had a mini mushroom, and I was running through, and just as I was about to hit a goomba, it did a short hop and I made it under. brings back good memories :)
I had to delete the video an reupload it, as it wasn't sending out to subscribers. Sorry for inconveniencing those who already watched it.
+DidYouKnowGaming? It made me think there was another, now i'm sad. :(
+DidYouKnowGaming? It still won't show up in my sub box.
+DidYouKnowGaming? Still not in my sub feed. May have to do it another day.
+GamingFanatic +Ashuten Same here! I think UA-cam has just stuffed up the sub boxes
+DidYouKnowGaming? GAUNTLET
This game's popularity was so widespread that even my Dad would borrow my DS to play.

Why has no one seen this yet? It’s been 4 years.
I already saw this comment 6 years ago and liked it and woah its now 77 likes in 2023 including me
We take NSMB for granted but it really was amazing when it first arrived.
Indeed, plus many like to hate on the series claiming it has "too many sequels," (despite there being only one NewSMB game for every new system every 5 years) or because they don't "do anything new." Probably everyone who ever owned a DS has played this game
Nope ^^
+thebluePumpking you missed out lol
This was my very first DS game that I owned
Nope
Thats 90% accurate
My first DS game.
Same.
+Vegtable 242 XD
My 3rd DS game. I remember my first was Mario Kart DS.
Same and also my first Mario game
good memories
I remember New Super Mario Bros. Wii definitely being tougher for sure!
+WiiAnd360WithMe For me, that game was IMPOSSIBLE, it take me about a year to complete worlds 1-8, world 9 took me 8 months. I was 6 at that time.
LEGOEmilio Same here! It was impossible for me. I had to play it with my stepdad to beat it haha!
WiiAnd360WithMe I also had to play with my mom, she was really good at the game! But I wasn't.
LEGOEmilio My stepdad plays a lot of games, so he knew what he was doing. I knew what I was doing, but I was just bad!
My brother and I lifting and throwing each other by accident.
Happens in every Mario co-op to date.
I really want a new 3D mario adventure style game. 3D World was more of a new spin on the 2D linear games. The last true 3D game was what? Galaxy 2 in 2010? So it's been almost 6 years.
I feel the same way. I actually don't like the 2D games all that much.
FRICKIN FRICKS
Mario Sunshine 2222222
+Chip Biscuit do we want to go back even further with f-zero?
+Chadtronic Inspiration is a bitch, and we can only hope she sucks us off. She's been neglecting Nintendo's devs for a while.
Did you know? The title ''New Super Mario Bros'' is actually a lie, as the Mario Bros you play as aren't new at all, they were the same characters from the original game all along.
+Llort A. Ton HOW COULD WE HAVE BEEN SO BLIND
WE WERE PLAYED FOR FOOLS
THEY PLAY US LIKE A DAMN FIDDLE
nintendo confirmed
+Llort A. Ton Oh mah Guurd im a damn fiddle help help me
I still find it kinda sad that nobody ever mentions NSMB U. I know it was the forth in the series, but it was still pretty damn creative with its level design and extra features like challenge mode.
I'm not sure I would call what we did in NSMB Wii "cooperative"
lol yeah and toads sound he makes when u jump on him reaalllyy annoys me
Man... This game was my childhood
The items also dance, well jump
This is, in my opinion, one of the best games ever made. It's so simple and fun, and when it came out it was portable! You could just play this fun little game for hours anywhere you were! And on top of that, it had fun minigames, some of which could be up to 4 players!

+ivan2294 I really liked the first two. The first one was portable and the second had four players, which was fun. After that, it became repetitive and crappy to me.
that is exactly why I loved new super mario bros, the enemies interacting with the music, such beauty
5:33 "Okay, we need to strike a good balance between accessibility and challenge in the next NSMB. Any suggestions?"
"Ooh, how about we make it so that if the player has too much trouble, the game beats the level for them?"
"That is an absolutely perfect and lazy way to solve this dilemma! Let's do it!"
NSMB is what got me into Mario. if it wasn't for it I wouldn't be the person I am today, as dramatic as it sounds
+peach time I completely agree,I feel the same way.
+peach time I completely agree,I feel the same way.
same dude
I completely agree,I feel the same way
Same
4:27 The music from the trailer actually did appear in the game. It was in the "Mario Vs. Luigi" multiplayer mode.
The music from the trailer is a bit slower than the vs track
I know, but it is still the same music, slower or not.
It also has different instruments, extra instruments and is seperate in the data from the used track
Long story short: it's basically the same music.
The pause between the D and S each time he said DS was kinda weird.
That's how I pronounce it. That's how I've always heard it said, and how I believe is the correct way to say it.
+GamingFanatic ''Dee Ess''. I guess it is kinda weird.
+GamingFanatic The same, but without the pause between it.
+GamingFanatic D*ck Smach
+GamingFanatic The Deeeeeeeeee...S
I think it's funny how a game that's almost a decade old now is still called "new". :P It's kind of redundant.
Silly how the "new" 3DS will suffer the same fate in the future.
+Purple Villager Apparently in Japan, the word "new" on something meant that it sounded better or something. Definitely doesn't have the same effect here.
+Purple Villager nintendo should make a version of new super mario bros. exclusive to the new 3ds
call it "new new super mario bros."
+Purple Villager The same fate may befall Super Mario 3D if we run out of adjectives to describe them.
+Supr Gaming It sounds cool if you ignore the redundant, expirable meaning. It's like if they named it Shin Super Mario Brothers.
+Purple Villager I've always took it as "new" meaning that it's something different from the original 2D platforming Super Mario Bros. line of games. So "New Super Mario Bros." and the "new" meaning it's a start of a new era of 2D Mario games.
4:39 Actually, the theme from the NSMB beta video _did_ make it into the game, but was only used as one of the two multiplayer background tracks.
+llproductions2006 There are three tracks:
* The one you can hear in the E3 2005 trailer
* The one that is in the final versions of the game, but is unused (BGM_CHIJO)
* The one used in the game (BGM_VS_CHIJOU)
The enemies moving along with the songs are adorable
5:38 OH GOD! This game was one of my most important games in my childhood!!
I'm definitely ready for Nintendo to go back to pure 3D Mario games.
Shut up
The opening music was enough to thrust me back into my childhood
my fucking childhood
Mine too
I'm almost as old as the game so should I say, I grew up with it!
Hatless zebra one of the first games I ever played was New Super Mario Bros. It is still my favourite game of all time
Lazarus My too!
Hey Wow Ya Know It's The Same For Me (Kinda Funny Considering That We Are All 9, 10, 11 or ,12 XD)
BAH BAH
(insert turtle dance here)
DOOK
@@jess648 I honesty love the Koopas' little dance
1:47 Bowser Jr. could've just pressed the button and ended it there.
Thanks so much for this! New Super Mario Bros. was one my first true video games along with Wii Sports and Lego Star Wars: The Complete Saga.
+Mason A. (Mariofan717) awesome dude! I hope they were good experiences! I loved lego SW back in the day, & mario has always been great fun to play.
Now this is a fucking great crossover, Beta64 and DYKG is really a winning combination
Good to see +Beta64 getting more attention.
Man this video is nostlagic... brings back memories of not just the first Mario game i ever played, but also the first Video game i ever played. Thanks Nintendo DS XL, for introducing me... to the world of video games...
Prehistoric and machine worlds would have been so much cooler.
I've got to say that world 6 was probably my favourite world in this game, it's the one I remember the levels from the most!
Yeah, a dinosaur koopa would have been an awesone boss, or Mecha-Bowser to the machine world.
+supermariojaska5 ancient != dinosaur
+Something Random Inc. Especially since they did appear in DKC Returns (Cliff and Factory respectively)
And a space world.
05:17
I loved using the Super Mushroom against the Giant Goomba. In fact I especially enjoyed using it in the final boss stage against Bowser and Bowser Jr.
NSMB DS is still the best one.
NSMB Wii is fun with four players.
NSMB2 is just a lazy rehash.
NSMBU is just the same thing, in HD.
+MarioMario786 Chaotic as Hell...but fun.
+verdatum Same with Super Mario 3D World.
+gamerjc21 NSMBU had the most creative level design and co-op(and co-op only) levels and mini games
+gamerjc21 I prefer Wii and U personally. That 4 player co-op was too much fun.
***** agreed
+beta64 woah, great job! you have really expanded your horizons!
This isn't a video about DK.
Get it? Expand?
I'll leave now...
@@neilisbored2177 nor Animal Crossing Cuz Horizons?, i'll go...
New super Mario bros is my whole childhood
Those memories of playing it... It really got me into Nintendo
The Mario Vs. Luigi mode was so damn fun
Did you know? They made four of these. In a row. By the second one there was nothing new about it.
+ShyGuyXXL My thoughts exactly.
My general view on Mario
+ShyGuyXXL *Third one. Wii's multiplayer modes were innovative enough, along with the upscaled difficulty. NSMBU and NSMB2, on the other-hand...
+DarkLink1996 nsmbu is arguably the best in the series with great powerups (including the new acorn suit which is much better than the propeller suit) and the most challenging/rewarding game in the series. They're pretty much going for "new and shiny" exciting, not fresh exciting. The Japanese wording means a bit more than it does elsewhere.
Welp. Thanks, UA-cam. Now my awesome comment is lost forever, I bet it would've gotten an Oscar, and made me cool, and now it's nowhere to be seen.

Happy 10 year anniversary New Super Mario Bros. You're arguably the best 2-D Mario game.
New Super Mario Bros 2 lost that feel that made this game so legendary... It's sad, really.
IT WAS STILL AWSOME AND FUN TO PLAY
Cutie & Friends Adventures lol no
Fodimin in NSMB2 you had too reach World 6 to unlock Luigi, that's an insult. I wanted mai boi Luggy from World 1.
Wrong
