I could totally picture him playing this song in an Irish pub as the Sons seat in a back booth discussing business with McGee or Jimmy O in season three of the Sons :-D
Another fascinating performance with Foy, The McCreary Sisters, and Mike Farris. THis was such a treat meeting Foy! These were the special, surprise gifts from the cruise. ~~ Wayne Thanks Jay for posting.
what's sad is that no one here realizes that the song they heard on SoA is a COVER of this ... and done by Ed Sheeran not Foy Vance (this guy, and the original artist)
Shazam brought me here :0). No, Shazam let me hear Ed Sheeran's version, then I heard Matt McAndrew's version at The Voice. And Rolling Stone magazine disclosed who the author was. So, that's why I am here. Hail to Foy Vance!!! And huge thanks for sharing this video!
After finding Foy Vance I can’t stop watching him or hearing the sound of his deep emotion in his music I’ve fallen in love 🥰 I love 💕 to hear him talk also my Irishman
This song is seriously one of my favorites now. Foy Vance you are so talented thank you for this sond and Thank you Matt McAndrew from The Voice for leading me here. :)
Yesss, I have LOVED Foy Vance for ages! So soulful. ♡ My other favorite cover of this is Shoshana Bean (at Ace hotel). If you haven't heard it yet, do yourself a favor... maybe the most powerful climax to a song that I've ever heard!
When a singer sings like that and a lyric scratching a gospel song like this one. The result is a small taste of the real gospel. Great song and interpretation.
Kurt Sutter Showed us the way, SoA gave it Fame Foy Gave it Life and Matt Let it GO! to all those out there who love music this is how its supposed to Roll!
Ed's talent is so disproportionate, I come to talk about him on his cover of the already superb original version. He performs top performance with each performance. Respect
+Patrick Duffy Dudes ! The man paid Foy Vance a compliment! No need to jump all up in his shit about it. If someone tells me that I nailed one of MY songs, I'm appreciative of that. WTF is WRONG with you ?!
I was probably drunk when I typed that, as I have no idea what I was trying to say. I'm a big Foy Vance fan, but if I wasn't, I would make a joke about nailing your mom or something.
I think his talent probably brought him here, but hey... a light "hating" is always expected against greatness! "The Bear Man" 🐻 @BearManMountaineering facebook.com/BearManMountaineering
the Tom Waits tune isn't even close to the same song ... they only things they have in common are the name of the song, that someone sings it, that there's music behind the vocals, and that they're both sort of 'bluesy'
is this the original version of this song? Isn't there an album version somewhere? I have already looked up for it but can't find that information anywhere... I'd love to hear a studio version of this! (apart from the one by Ed Sheeran)
Yes this is the OG of "Make It Rain". Written and sang by the incredible Foy Vance. This live rendition Mr. Vance is joined by Gospel singers The McCrary Sisters and Mike Farris.
Yeah it doesn't make sense seeing how Foy Vance and Ed Sheeran were both recording and traveling venues together?! SOA knew that Mr. Vance was the OG writer and singer of this epic song.
Gustav Rubbestad Which is often what Kurt made people do for the series, he wanted to bring out more talent, with different types of versions and genres :) Just listen to the Bohemian Rhapsody version he had made for the first episode in the last season.
The wounds run deep for generations. You take the pain to the grave. There is no rest in peace for sometimes it comes back. Let it rain and wash it all away but it can't. The hopelessness of a dog on a chain for all their life, the cow in a slaughter truck, the child abducted, raped and murdered, the hate because one's skin, features and beliefs are different, the evil runs so deep it can never rain hard enough to wash it away. I am done with this world. I've been done with it for a long, long time. Welsh woman born and bred 1961 now living in Sturgis, South Dakota USA HELL ON EARTH. Britain said the rise of the 3rd Reich would happen in the USA and it has with Trump, same hate, same propaganda, same low life types that believe the bullshit. Let it rain here and wash them all away. I'm done.
He is using a looper pedal. He records a track on that pedal and when he turns it on, it will loop whatever he recorded. It is useful for if you want to make complex thing, or solo. Ed Sheeran uses them too when he sings live.
+Xander McCat Andrew is right. see two brilliant examples of Foy here at the mtv sessions. building the song from the start. www.mtv.co.uk/foy-vance/videos/foy-vance
I wanna start by saying I love the song, but....Does anyone know the song's meaning? I try to wrap my head around it but I don't entirely get it. English is not really my first language so there may be something i'm missing. To be honest I don't even get if "make it rain" refers to money or something completely diferent(which is what i suspect). That may show to anyone willing to answer my lvl of understanding. Anyway ty in advance and imo a great great song.
Well i think it may have something to do with third world countries like africa because he says the seed needs the water before it grow out of the the ground the he says it just keeps getting hard, and hunger more profound. And then he says make it rain down lord. So it could have something to do starvation and limited water source in places like africa.
I'm a year late on the reply, but here is the explanation if you have not figured it out. The song is about a man struggling with his past and who he is. For example he is talking about the sins of his father and pain of his mother, or how his life just keeps getting harder. Now both biblically and in life fire has a destructive and transforming property. God used fire raining from the sky to punish Egypt, and to free the Jewish slaves in the bible. Thus the line in the song I know there can come fire from the sky. In life farmers for example use fire to destroy old crops. But afterwards the soil is more fertile than it was before. So in the song the man is asking for god to figuratively make it rain fire on his life. To destroy who he was, and change him into a new and better person.
One of those songs that only comes around once in a lifetime!!! Divine inspiration!!
Clearly the best version of this song. The original.. Done and done.
Yes but without ed sheeran I would never had discoverd this and both versions are good in my opinion
I could totally picture him playing this song in an Irish pub as the Sons seat in a back booth discussing business with McGee or Jimmy O in season three of the Sons :-D

It is so good that ed sheeran is bringing a lot of attention to a great song and artist.

Dam and I thought ed did a good job but from the original writer it's just indescribable
This is his originally right?
yes
no, it's by Tom Waits off of the 2004 album Real Gone.
the Tom Waits tune isn't even close to the same song ... they only things they have in common are the name of the song, that someone sings it, that there's music behind the vocals, and that they're both sort of 'bluesy'
RefriedAudio This song was COMPOSED by Foy Vance.
is this the original version of this song? Isn't there an album version somewhere? I have already looked up for it but can't find that information anywhere... I'd love to hear a studio version of this! (apart from the one by Ed Sheeran)

Damn
SOA brought me here as well
im confused who's the original singer ,
apparently its not ED
none the less this is amazing
Foy Vance wrote this song :) Then Ed Sheeran recorded his version for Sons of Anarchy
Gustav Rubbestad thanks bro

that is why the song got pulled shadowblade
"Mazel Tov"😂😂😂
Is he just pretending to play along to a pre-recorded track? If not, who is playing guitar at 2:33?
He is using a looper pedal. He records a track on that pedal and when he turns it on, it will loop whatever he recorded. It is useful for if you want to make complex thing, or solo. Ed Sheeran uses them too when he sings live.

OMG I love it even more now. I'm practically DRENCHED in this song.
Jeramie Anderson , Many people don't understand this songs meaning. You do!!!
Story of my life
Fuckin A!
omg i thought that Ed Sheeran wrote this song, but OK I still like it
А чого він на гітарі не грає?
God I wish there was a better recording of this
Ed Sheeran made a cover😏
Yeah Ed sheerans version is sick as hell
I saw a video where citizens bank were promoting him. Oh jesus fuck no!
He should have sang with the laddies on chorus instead of over singing. It could have been much better
Sad m(Ed) sheeran made a cover of his great song without paying his the royalties and copyright
