Porsche has set another new record on the Nürburgring-Nordschleife in cooperation with Manthey-Racing. On Thursday, 25 October 2018, the Porsche GT2 RS MR with 515 kW (700 hp) completed a lap of the 20.6-kilometre long circuit in 6:40.3 minutes. No other road-legal vehicle has ever been so fast on ‘The Green Hell’ track. Lars Kern was at the wheel of the sports car, which had been especially set up for the ‘Nordschleife’ by Porsche engineers and Manthey-Racing experts. The Porsche test driver already set a lap record in September 2017 in a series-production Porsche 911 GT2 RS*.
“We kept our eye on the weather all day and thought hard about whether such a drive was possible. We would not have taken any risks if it was raining or if the track was slightly damp,” says Dr. Frank-Steffen Walliser, Head of Motorsport and GT Cars. The Porsche 911 GT2 RS was equipped with the new performance kit from Manthey-Racing, supplemented by an overall vehicle setup tailored to the circuit characteristics of the Nürburgring-Norschleife. “In this test drive, we simply wanted to assess the potential of the vehicle once more. The result is quite impressive. It really is a fabulous time. This shows again very clearly the exciting possibilities of this sports car.”
The Porsche GT2 RS was launched on the market in 2017 as the fastest and most powerful 911 of all time so far. In recent months, Porsche engineers used their know-how from development of the 911 RSR and 911 GT3 R race cars as well as the experience of Manthey-Racing gained in numerous successful races on the Nürburgring-Nordschleife. The targeted modifications included the areas of chassis and aerodynamics. The technicians focused on suitability for on-road driving at all times.
“The drive was great fun,” says development engineer Lars Kern. The 31-year-old knows the ‘Ring’ very well from test and record drives as well as numerous VLN races. “The balance of the car is also very good with the new package. I did not have to take any great risks to be fast. But I only had one attempt because it was already getting dark. It worked out first time though.” Manthey-Racing CEO Nicolas Raeder adds: “We are very proud. It was a great challenge to make the already tremendously fast Porsche 911 GT2 RS even faster.”
In autumnal but dry conditions, Lars Kern optimally exploited the huge potential of the Porsche 911 GT2 RS MR on his record lap under the eyes of a notary. For the fuel, Porsche relied on Esso as a proven partner from motor sports. The driver's seat was the only modification compared with the version of the GT2 RS MR that can now be ordered from Manthey-Racing for club sport and track day events. A racing bucket seat was fitted in the record-breaking vehicle for safety reasons. This modification did not provide any weight benefits.

Im sure you could do sub 9 as a normal guy. Trying to go sub 8 is where i would out of skill and bravery i think

@@J.PC.Designs unfortunately no. Manthey racing did the full monty on this one. New aero (the new wing, the canards and other new aero bits), suspension, wheels, and new parts in the braking system (pads and lines). No power adders though. If you had a GT2 RS and wanted all these parts it'd set you back around €95k at the time the video was filmed

None of them are consistent, they have different drivers, different conditions and a load of other factors that should make it meaningless to anyone other than marketing departments that want to cash in on the notoriety of the track
The minimal tire squeal at those speeds displays how incredibly stable it is. Wow.
Actually it shows how sticky the rubber is. These Cup 2R's literally last 2 or 3 laps of the ring before they're worn out...and bring into question how legitimate any of these latest lap times are when the car in question is meant to be considered a "road car". Same goes for Mercs GTR Pro.
tire squeal doesnt mean anything against stability, it only means the tires are getting close to its limit of adhesion.
The craziest thing about this video is how calm and balanced the setup seems on the car. Very little twitchiness/oversteer...Whoever set up this car is the hero

@@paulbaker4941 manthey racing have done a few things to it, mostly aero (wing, canards etc.), suspension, wheels (lighter than stock ones) and brakes (just new pads and braided lines), but they also have a water tank you can have fitted. Be prepared to pay through the nose for it because its around €95k on top of the purchase price of the actual car

This isnt so much the Porsche this time, this driver is exceptional world class. Ive driven Porsche since 1975 my first was a 72 911S and it ran like a scalded dog, and I learned track riding. I was in Germany from 1974-77, been to all the circuits but Nurburgring is by far Europe's challenge. This driver keeps the entire spectrum completely in balance to include knowing exactly where his red line power curve is in every gear and that is rare as accurate as he is.

Some magic in that suspension. So compliant through every turn, not upset by the curbing at all seemingly.
Watching it back today, the low speed corners seemed very nervous, with indicated speeds not really where you'd expect a 6:40 car to be. 194 through Mutcurve, that part seemed to be working just fine :-D

Definitely taking this video’s audio and making it a lullaby song for myself. Yo! Audio microphones seated like a symphony throughout the automobile. so that We can hear all of the majestic harmony. You already get to drive it, yet I guess if you think you need a more personal reason for the microphone idea... you may use it for ear training exercise purposes. Combine data stats, video review, with virtual audio. Memorize sounds your looking for, and the sounds that need improved.

Ламборгини авентадор тоже дороже , но медленнее . Даже 918 порше , лексус ЛФА и даже Пагани Зонда Р медленнее , а стоят минимум в два раза дороже . Порше - это совсем другой уровень . Легендарная марка .
This car is all go and minimal show. Doesn't sound like it's got so much performance, doesn't even look like a spaceship. It's a true silent killer. Some car makers say their car looks so sharp and low because it's very aerodynamic. But porsche does that without making their cars look awkward.

if you have to save up for it, don't buy it. First acquire assets that will generate enough cash flows to pay for all your expenses, and to have enough in excess of your expenses to buy your targa. Otherwise you'll regret buying another liability

But there is absolutely nothing wrong with financing ie owe money... You may never have anything without owing money
@@IAP_mkt a 2004 Targa in particular is a very low production model very specific. Someone to say they are saving up for a 911 in general, I would say yes go for it!! Saving money for a particular thing requires sacrifice, dedication and commitment. One should want to promote an individual to achieve a goal not negatively express concerns that one has already considered.

But did someone notice that they started the stopwatch almost 5s after crossing the white line (the one after the first RH turn at the start of the film), but did stop the stopwatch when crossing the white line? Just sayin'....Check the 919 record run for example. Or if you're a simmer, you know when the stopwatch starts :)

Die wenigsten fahren damit. Sammler Wissen was der GT2 an Wert hat (Kapitalanlage) und was er sicher noch an Wert zulegen wird mit den Jahren

can we try to get more sponsors on the top banner and more dials on the lower side? In that case we can then limit the view of the track to 5 millimetres in vertical aperture, much to the benefit of the viewer and the profit of the sponsors..
these cars will beat eachother every 6 months to a year, since with additional electronic refinements, tyre development and aero they're just adding F_lat and F_long on the contact patch. No big surprise. If you made a mid-engined version of this car, it would take the crown back, like the 918 did. F = m*a

I tried this car on Sim, it is possible, but only with racing soft tyres, it pretty much handles like a GT3 car but with higher top speed. Don't know if suspension is tuned at all on this car.
