    The first five years of the show were a golden period, then everyone left and the program went deep into the basement until Eddie and Joe Piscopo got up to speed with their chemistry. Season Ten was actually pretty good with brief tours of duties coming from Jim Belushi, Billy Crystal, Mary Gross, Christopher Guest, Rich Hall, Gary Kroeger, Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Harry Shearer and Martin Short. Then Lorne came back, and frankly it stunk again for a while, until he found the right chemistry of writers and cast.

      on the whole I agree, season 11 was subpar but the next cast hired the immediate season after in 1986 was very talented and turned the show around pretty quickly: Carvey, Hartman, Hooks, Nealon, etc. That cast continued for over five years and turned the ship around into the 90s, which in my opinion, was the best cast in the show's history.

But a reference to the fact that a convicted murderer had murdered during what was supposedly a suicide attempt, you have to know the backstory to get that one.

    Someone please give us a transcription of the names mentioned, I’d like to do research and look these people up. Maybe I will understand why his jokes are funny. Disclaimer: I was not alive when any of this happened, or was recorded and broadcast.

      Chevy is not a person who will push a joke to make it funny, for Chevy you have one chance and one chance only. Remember, he's not writing all of what he is reading. So when a joke fails to get a laugh or when the joke is clearly not funny you can definitely see the ire in Chevy's face. For the most part, the audience isn't laughing at the jokes, they are laughing at the dead pan humor and ire that Chevy is showing as a way to get a laugh.

      And then resigning because he was asked to regarding his "sexual predations." Those who knew comedy, should have recognized his copying Stave Martin's antics in THE MAN WITH TWO BRAINS when mugging to clutch the breasts of the sleeping woman. Al's a boring mediocre pol, goodby and Happy Trails Al...

      Serai3 If the aired on date is listed correctly in the description (4/11/81), then this aired exactly one day before the very first U.S. manned Space Shuttle launch which was the Space Shuttle Columbia STS-1 Mission. They finally got it off the ground the very next day and the Shuttle program continued for 30 years until 2011, with a total of 135 U.S. Space Shuttle Launches/Missions.That doesn’t include the manned Space Shuttle “Enterprise” ALT program “Approach and Landing (atmospheric glide landing) Tests” Which were flown in 1977.

    • @honey_bee65
      @honey_bee65 7 років тому +9

      PSG - It wasn't really supposed to be. It wasn't a skit, he was explaining what happened to the show.
      Lorne Michaels left after 5 years (along with the original cast) and instead of replacing Lorne with Al Franken, they replaced him with two unfunny people that nearly destroyed the show.
      The show had gotten so bad during that time, the only thing that saved SNL from going under was Eddie Murphy and Joe Piscapo.
      Al Franken was explaining everything to the viewers because they were probably wondering what happened to the show.
      Get it now?
