The wrench
Rachet
Impact Driver
can be used to get more and different loot out of objects.
For example, hitting a car with a stone axe gets you iron and not much else.
Dismantling a car with a wrench can get anything from a engine, cloth, polymer scraps, iron pipes, springs, mechanical parts, a battery, a radiator, etc.
For hard stonelike materials, a pickaxe is much quicker. Augers are better still but making one requires alot of skill.
Yeah, Project Zomboid is really good! And it became much more interesting when multiplayer came in! And let's not forget about awesome community wich made quite a lot of modifications! Definitely a good pick if you are a big fan of survival games
Again, the best weapon is weapon you put your points in. my personal preference is a club, because it is fast, has good damage and reach. I didn't really make a research about weapons, but as I see clubs are average or above average in every category, wich means it doesn't really have any disadvantages. And it correlates with stregth perks like miner 69'er wich I get every playthrough. So go ahead and pick anything that appeals you, be it spears, knives, stun baton, etc!
The game could do with a really big graphical update. Or at least the UI. As you said, it looks like shovelware even though it really doesn't play like shovelware. It's a shame for a game to look this bad in 2024. But I feel like they are in too deep. Development is taking too much time to even think of spending energy on upgrading the visuals.
Zomboid spent the energy and it worked out for them. The game looks so much better
you can improve your skill with every weapon.
Speaking of project zomboid, any chance we see an LP of that at some point? Maybe when the new NPCs update comes out?
