    Ive been producing music for 15 years, hundreds of cool tracks that have only served as a crop for me to pick out ones I liked for my own music releases - the rest are just chilling on my hard drive doing nothing. Seeing your video and a few others like this makes me realize those thousands of hours could actually be making me money right now. Thanks for the content!

    Right on Stevie B - thanks for the insight into your process. I just started uploading to royalty free libraries - Pond5 specifically and they accepted my catalogue. Made a first sale after about a week and then we heard about the publishing shift and royalty reduction. What you'll find with Audiojungle is that they give great priority to newly uploaded tracks. What normally happens is you'll upload a track, maybe catch a few sales and then after a few months or maybe sooner that track will kind of get lost and then only sell now and again. Unless you get it past something like 20 sales before that point it won't rank that well for the keywords and such. There are old tracks that sell well indefinitely but that's because they already got to a high amount of sales.
    So to sum up, you have to keep uploading regularly to sell and for your other tracks to keep selling. Of course it's designed that way to benefit Audiojungle.

    • @Steven_Beddall
      @Steven_Beddall  4 роки тому +1

      loot6 haha why wouldn’t it benefit Audiojungle? People tend to forget they’re running a business, it’s not a marketing agency for your music. What you’re saying about 20 sales is incorrect. I sell from my back catalogue regularly on tracks which have sold far less than 10 licenses, but yes they rank lower in searches and new submissions are favoured. I encourage people to see this all as incentive to create music of the highest calibre and test it out on AJ, Pond 5 etc. These libraries aren’t perfect, but they’re accessible for most up and coming producers.

    • @loot6
      @loot6 4 роки тому

      @@Steven_Beddall There's running a business but don't need to be this unscrupulous. Look at any other industry, an actor's agent takes like 10%, apps on the app stores only give 30% to google or apple and they are basically the exact same platform as Audiojungle - just a search platform to find digital content.
      They're all running businesses but Envato is way more money crazed than everyone else.
      20 sales was just an example, I just mean they give priority to newly uploaded tracks. You won't see an old track with no sales ranking anywhere, only tracks with many sales or new tracks get ranked well.

    • @esperago
      @esperago 2 роки тому

      Also, to share a slightly more positive perspective: If one is creating a video and in need of stock audio, one would also, naturally, prefer to use new(er), fresh material, rather than a track that's been used, say, in thousands of precious productions. So financial ambitions aside, they're also prioritizing creativity in the industry.

    • @loot6
      @loot6 2 роки тому

      @@esperago That would seem to be the exact opposite of what they're doing. They only prioritise new stuff unless a track has many, many sales already....thus the old tracks already with countless sales rank the highest and get sold again and again and again...literally the opposite of new material.
      They promote brand new tracks, and tracks that are old and have already sold a billion times...all the tracks in the middle of that get lost in oblivion...all the gems get lots in their stupid system.

      @@Steven_Beddall Cheers man, love the quick reply! I really appreciate it!
      Last questions (and by last, I mean I may ask more on other videos :))
      Do you do multiple 15/30/60 second edits of each track? For example, if you have a sick verse and a sweet chorus, would you perhaps do two 30 second edits, highlighting each? And if so, how do you go about labeling them to differentiate? And finally, are you then updating your PRO account to reflect each of these edits?

    • @Steven_Beddall
      @Steven_Beddall  4 роки тому +1

      @@DennisFlorine No prob! I don't do multiple edits of the same time length because for me personally I think one is enough, but there's a limit to what AJ will allow for alternate versions, 5 max I believe. Something to keep in mind. I've never actually done multiple 15/30/60 sec edits for a single upload but I'm assuming it's fine as long as you describe it in the file name.
      For PRO account, yes I update it with all edits!

    Very educational. Sounds like you did a good job studying the styles of music and creating tracks that fit in. Do you plan on joining a PRO like BMI to collect backend royalties? Is it important to form an LLC before uploading, or okay to upload as an individual? What do you think of Pond5 modifying the terms to 65/35 instead of 50/50? Does that mean Pond5 isn't worth bothering with anymore, or still a good site for beginning composers?

      Thanks! I'm already a member of SOCAN here in Canada and I register all my works with them including all stock music. As far as I know totally fine to upload as an individual, you have to fill out tax info on AJ though. I don't think highly of Pond5 switching it up, however we are at their mercy and there are always changes like this and surely more to come across the board. I'll still upload to Pond5 regardless and would still consider it a good place to start. At the end of the day 35% is better than nothing.

      If I remember correctly, I think you can deal with that later but I'm not totally sure. The form you sill out is called a W8 BEN, it's not as complicated as it seems. There's quite a few videos on youtube about how to fill it out properly, I'd recommend just getting it out of the way before you get started. All you need is your social insurance number pretty much, and then you fill out your tax info based on your country's agreement with the US

    • @Steven_Beddall
      @Steven_Beddall  4 роки тому

      In theory yes, although few customers pay performance royalty fees for the use of the license. Meaning you would only likely see performance royalties for tracks which get licensed to tv shows or radio for example, which are required to pay PRO fees.

    Sorry im half way in watching where you talk about the sales you made on your songs and I had a question, hopefully it gets answered later in the vide. Is it necessary to buy promotion for you songs to be higher recommended than others, like beat stars does? Or are all purchases generated from organic searches from customers?Thanks

    • @Steven_Beddall
      @Steven_Beddall  4 роки тому

      You can't buy promotion within AJ or Pond 5, all sales are derived from organic traffic and search results. Newer songs are featured first, hence why most sales if any occur shortly after your song is posted. You can submit your tracks to be featured in some of their promotions though, and your tracks can 'trend' in sales which will appear in some other traffic veins.

I'll explain it more clearly - there's an author fee, a buyer fee and a tax withholding fee - add them all together and call it the 'Envato fee' - that's what goes to Envato, the rest goes to you as the author. And this is as an exclusive author....don't even think about earning a penny if you're not at least exclusive.

      loot6 I currently earn an average of about a $100 USD a month and I haven’t uploaded anything onto AJ in almost 6 months. I was making a lot more before I got busy with other projects. It’s about catalogue volume and quality. Also, I am a non exclusive author. Yes, the fees are high, but most people who think that it’s impossible to earn any money on from micro sync licensing gave up after their first couple rejections.

    • @loot6

      @@Steven_Beddall Yes I was just remarking that how the fees actually work since that link is misleading. They literally take a larger share than you do even though you're doing all the work. you all have a problem! none of you is able to produce music that stands out from the others. everything sounds the same. i am not a composer but a friend of mine started writing music for Audiojungle about 2 years ago. Music in the style of the perfect Hollywood sound. fully orchestrated scores in the genre action drama etc did not sell a piece of music under 100 dollars and for TV its prices were over 1000 dollars ..... in one year over 2500 sales with pre-tax sales of 180,000 US dollars. !!!
    one thing is fact. good music is bought and for more money. For

    In this music there is not a loop to be found and something like that pulls people under its spell and manipulates them accordingly. the film industry also has something like that. but nobody needs lops loops loops. sorry for my honesty ;-)
