You will really appreciate M. R. James. Remember the film Ringu...of course you do. That creepy long haired ghost lady could have crawled right out of a James story. In fact that whole movie, in plot, theme, and creepy dangerous ghost was basically right out of the M. R. James playbook.
Well done my friend. I will have 2 check him out. Not sure if I've read him , unless it been in other story collections that I have. Again great job, great reading, and great video. Looking forward 2 Mythos Monday 👍👍👍👍
If it wasn’t for M. R. James we wouldn’t have stories like The Conjuring, Insidious, The Ring, The Grudge, The Fog, Poltergeist, The Shining, The Amityville Horror, The Haunting of Hill House, and countless other ghost stories by multiple authors from around the world.
You knocked it out of the park with M. R. James! I never tire of his stories and they are extremely scary. There’s a b/w movie of Casting the Runes and Mark Gatiss did some recent ones. You can find audiobooks and short movies on UA-cam. My favourite is The Mezzotint. James is the reason I can’t touch carved wooden pews or chair arms. Thanks 🙏 Deb
I would agree with you that these ghost’s are up there with the ones in Japanese Horror stories for being the most horrific and awful ghosts in literature; the image of Gawdy’s skeleton 💀 carrying away the crying baby haunted me for days 😟.
I've been reading a volume of his collected stories for half a decade! Read some stories every Halloween. I think I'm about halfway. It's really good, though I'm happy not to binge on these tales of spooked scholars and their frightening curtains 😇
I’ve got the Oxford edition and am trying to read one per night before bed. Enjoying most of them so far
Casting the Runes
Didnt know this author. Thanks for bringing him to our attention.
You are very welcome!
The BBC used to do "A Ghost Story For Christmas" which were MR James stories adapted for television and most of them are on UA-cam
I should watch those.

Michael, I will be watching your channel every Sunday. This reading was great!
Add me to the list of those who haven't heard of him. I'll put him on TBR list.
These videos always fill me with guilt that I haven’t gotten to these authors yet. M.R. James has been on my list for too long.

You convinced me, never heard of this author. Thanks so much, just ordered.
I think you will like his stories! Thanks so much for watching!
You're such a good reader. I've never heard of MR James.
Great choice, Mike! I have you to thank for turning me on to M. R. James.
You are, of course, very welcome!

He was one of Lovecraft’s favorites.

Knew nothing about this! Thanks for the recommendation!
I recently saw NIGHT OF THE DEMON, which is an adaptation of 'Casting the Runes'. Good fun. I need to reread the story again.
I saw that movie years ago. It was pretty good from what I remember.

Glad to hear you are such a fan! He really is great!
I've only read one or two of his stories but I've got a Macmilan volume of all his ghost stories that I can't wait to start

Love these little readings!! When are they going to get you to narrate audiobooks!!
Ha! I’m sure the audio book publishers will be calling any minute.
@@michaelk.vaughan8617 they're probably holding out for a deal with Roger
Great reading. I haven't read M.R. James.
You will really like him, I’m sure.

I, of course, binged them.
😊
Not a huge fan of Shirley Jackson and I've heard comparisons. Very interested, but how do the two compare?
I’m not sure if I would have thought of that comparison. I guess there are some things that are similar, but I find them very different actually.
