The manual is terrible. The selling points of the radio, and the manual, claim selectable backlight colors. Menu setting number 18, 19, & 20 claim three backlight colors: blue, green, white (however those menu numbers only set the tx/rx/standby colors of red, green, orange). I cannot find any way at all to modify the backlight colors or brightness. Has anyone found any material that explains this radio better than the terrible manual?
So, one antenna outlet and 4 bands? If i buy this radio, and i have 3 antennas on my car. One for 69mhz, one for 145mhz and one for 433mhz. How do i connect the antennas? Or do wouxun just expect us to buy a triplex filter for another 100 bucks? And i install the radio main unit in the boot, and the frontpanel on my dashboard. Then i have to buy a microphonecable 5m also?? Why is there only one mic outlet? I have a Zastone D9000 now, it has speakers built in to the front panel(head unit) and also a mic-outlet..Only one cable from headunit to frontpanel that is. Pls make comments
Hello Vykan, you could just use one antenna the Diamond CR-8900, however if you have an antenna per band, then yes you will need to get creative with filters; sorry. The Mic is in the head unit, no need for a 5 Mtr long Mic cable, the head cable is supplied plenty long enough to get to the boot.. you would need to use external speakers as they are in the body, like most mobile radios with exception of the IC-7100, (£1000) or your Zastone (£180) The Zastone D9000 is dual band, and looks a nice little radio albeit a complete rip off of the Icom ID-5100. All I can say is, the Wouxun may not the radio for you, but for some its a very good little radio for the money.. yes it has shortcomings, but it is cheap.. Best DX and 73..
As far as I know, the manufacturer has a 4-band antenna for sale, too. What I'm not sure is if you can find it on eBay or Amazon. Maybe you can find it on TaoBao, I hope.
I have the uv-980pl AND the wouxon usb p[rogram cable, but the wouxon program software does NOT allow me to write to the radio!. It reads OK, I add a couple of memories (003 & 004), but all I get is a text box that says "frequency out of range" !??! Whats going on? I also downloaded the RT Systems software, but that refuese to install unless I have THEIR drivers and THEIR cable.. What a rip off
Yes you didn't say if this was the 70mhz or 28mhz version, there the same part number, how does that work, and yes instruction books are crap, there trying to get the right one for me, good luck with that one, will look at pdf thankyou....wonder if they actually make one that looks like the picture in the book, answers on a postcard to that from Fred g4vvq in Essex.
The model number denotes the bands PL 6,2,4,70cms P is 6,2,10,70cms if I recall.. I cannot explain why the manufacturer is shipping with a half baked manual I would rather they didn't bother lol..
I have this radio and love it. It is a quad band in the US and unlockable.
Will the 980 do gmrs in U.S.?
I use this as my base station and am going to get a second one day for my car.

You have wrong software, download the 5Khz version let me know how you get on..

Try 980r download it works!!!! It has 4mtrs....980p has 10mtrs for usa .

Yes that makes sense, but min is a P version and it has 70mhz on, I thought the PL was that one F g4vvq.
