Now for sale in our Houston showroom is this bright yellow 1968 AMC Rebel SST "Yellow Jacket" edition. This clean machine has survived the past 51 years thanks to a lifetime of care and maintenance and is a strong running and driving car. Originally launched in 1967 under American Motors' "Rambler Rebel" moniker, it became the AMC Rebel in 1968 as AMC was phasing out the Rambler name. There were multiple variants of the Rebel, and the SST stands out as the sportiest of the different models.
Under the hood of this bright yellow coupe lies the top power-producing of the available AMC-built V8 engines, the 280HP 343 CID V8, which is topped by a non-original Edelbrock 4BBL carb. It starts up with ease and sounds nice and strong. Its dual exhaust provides a powerful exhaust sound, giving it a muscular aural appeal to onlookers, letting them know that this car has plenty of power to get up to highway speed (and more) quickly. The strong V8 is mated to a smooth shifting 3-Speed automatic transmission and is kept cool by a large aftermarket aluminum radiator. This car runs and drives nicely and is sure to get plenty of attention on the street or at your local cruise night...especially since most folks haven't seen one of these in nearly 50 years, and probably won't know what they're looking at. The engine bay is nicely detailed, and the red paint offers a nice contrast to the rest of the car. Outside, the bright yellow is nicely accented by the shiny chrome trim, and the chrome 5-spoke American Racing mags. A set of nearly new Cooper Cobra radial tires are at each corner, with 215/70R14's up front, and 255/60R15's out back, combining to give the car a proper 1960's muscle car stance and slightly aggressive look.
On the inside you will see that the all-black interior has been tastefully executed, with cloth inserts in the vinyl-trimmed seats, and maintains its original look. The black carpeting is in good shape, too. With a split bench up front and a full bench seat in the back, this car just begs for you to take friends along for the ride! While you're out cruising with friends, they'll surely enjoy the tunes that the Blaupunkt Miami AM/FM/CD head unit and two-way bass reflex Pioneer speakers can crank out.

The 1968 AMC Rebel had excellent exterior styling that was up to par with the Chevelle, Plymouth Road Runner, Dodge Coronet, and Ford Fairlane/Torino.
