Your name isn't Clint Lewis is it? And do you live in Washington state? I was just curious about all of the cars that you mentioned? Because I sold him a 1969 javelin back in the late 80's or 90's, I can't remember what year it was when I sold it to him? I should have kept it and now I regret it. But I bought a 66 Olds f-85 cutlass and I gave it to my son. And he has restored it well

AMC blocks have the same bore spacing as the Mopar B and RB series big blocks. The largest factory bore for these engines was 4.34”. Compare to the 4.165” bore of the 390 and 401 AMC engines it shows hoe far they could be taken if they had the need to go larger, but 390 made 529 horsepower when they turned over a couple AMX’s to successful drag racers with a challenge to make the most power they could with them. And if you lay a metal intake gasket on top of one for the big block Mopar, the intake holes line up perfectly. They’re the same exact size too. That gives you a hint as to their potential!
Also I saw a few of these cars at the 1976 Winternationals at Beeline Dragway in Phoenix running 10.90s in super stock. My Auto Shop class project car was running there that eeekend, and I was astonished how well these cars ran.

@@kennethcohagen3539 Didnt piss me off in the least. I just corrected your mistake. The Wild Horse pass closing affected my wife more than myself. She has a 68 340 4 sp Dodge Dart GT her father bought new and gave it to her in 1973 which she still drag-raced at Wild Horse pass at the age of 66 years old. All that being said I heard they are going to reopen in 2024 using part of the old name so it will become Firebird Motor Sports Park.

Willie Hepburn took his Rambler to Formula 1 track Kyalamy, South Africa, on A Ferrari Club Day. Porches were visiting the Ferraris, and Hepburn obliterated all of them. Then he unhooked the trailer off his pick up, and obliterated them again! With the pick up! Well done, man!

The AMC V-8s actually had a bigger bore spread at 4.75" than the Olds big block, all of the Ponchos, the Ford FE and the early Hemis (392 family). But the block in general was a modern thin wall casting with some exceptions. The 290/304 casting had a maximum overbore capacity of .125". The 390/401 and the Special Service Blocks had heavier main bearing webs for dealer option 4 bolt mains.

My best friend in high school would sometimes drive his dads 1963 Ambassador to school. It was equipped with the AMC 327, and NO it is not a Chevy. Amc's 327 looks nothing like a Chevy plus they had their 327 in the 1950's whereas Chevy did not have their's until 1962. That Rambler was a real runner if only people knew. It would smoke the tires as long as you wanted it to. I remember yelling at him to let of because I was afraid the rear tires were going to blow out. Yes, it had a posi. Just a great car. Mint green and I loved it.

Legendary Motor Car and Speed Vision did a " Muscle car" shoot out with concours quality factory examples of some of the heaviest hitters of the time, a Yenko Camaro and Nova , Shelby Mustang, 440 six-pack Road Runner A12 car, or Coronet R/T (can't remember which) Royal Bobcat GTO and a S/C Rambler, it was clearly overmatched but it was not embarrassed it made a respectable showing of itself . The fact a AMC Rambler was invited shows respect. Would have liked to have seen an AMX or Rebel machine there too. The vehicles were all on factory size bias-ply tires, all 4-speed manual transmissions and similar rear end gearing. I won't be a spoiler who won, but it took 106+ in the quarter to win it on bias ply tires. That Rambler did alright . Look it up it's good t.v.

She'd drive her 4x4 station wagon Subaru demo though the woods 3 times a week. Purchased the biggest rock a dump truck could haul. Dropped rock in front of dealership, parked car on top of rock. Kept it covered with mudd . Shed have detail guy vacuum and wipe down interior every day. It made big city news papers tv after running news papers all over the country. She sold more cars than any person in the country. The brass in Japan loved it she made a lot of money and got a new Subaru for 25 years till someone at Subaru stopped it😊 people ordered new cars to be buit from her and shipped all over the country. Can't find it but she took CBS reporter around track showed how she got them so dirty. Others tried to copy her but everyone knew she was original mudd queen.

Back when the Hurst SC Rambler was released, I would drive past the AMC dealership and stare at them out of the side window of my '69 Z/28 and wondered if it would be a good race, I soon found out at the dragstrip, they had one of these in the paint scheme 'A', it was promoted by the factory and I got my butt handed to me, I had some trick work done on my Camaro and that all changed but, it had me worried for awhile. It's a nice car but I don't know why it wasn't a bigger hit. Maybe the factory didn't promote it enough. Incidentally, my choice was the paint scheme 'A'.

Back in 1969 when I was 18 years old, getting my 1st car, I had the option of a 1969 Javelin or a 1969 Sc Rambler. I chose the Javelin even though the dealership had a Scrambler in their show room and they were the same price. My mother had a basic Rambler American and I had learned to drive with that car. I couldn't get over the idea the SC Rambler was a still Rambler American. I went for the looks of the more sexy looking Javelin. In hind sight, I should have gone for the Scrambler. I had a feeling I had made wrong choice leaving the dealership that day with my Javelin. I think about that now and if I could only turn the hands of time back to that time. I sold it 3 years later at just over 8k miles for 3 times what I paid for it. The dude who bought it was thrilled until he blew that all original block running a 13lb cap a year later...I warned him.

I have always wanted one of these cars. I don't see that changing anytime soon, if ever. But man I can dream! I would have either paint scheme. Overall, I like paint scheme b more than a. Great video. Appreciate it very much.

So if the 390 was making 425 lb-ft of torque and 325hp either it needed more cam and head flow OR it was being way underrated and actually made closer to 450hp up around 6k or so. My dad had a 1969 AMC AMX and had experience racing stock cars and according to him it was definitely the later. Dad lived in the Kenosha area of Wisconsin when he owned his AMX and worked in Chicago and used to drive between the two daily. He said it was very fast off the line and could run with anything else without a problem.

One of the reasons I give General Motors in particular, but also Ford and Chrysler a hard time for their failures, and shortcomings is evidenced in this video: when you look at AMC and all that they were able to do with their comparatively minuscule budget, and then think again about the failures of America’s big three auto makers, and it’s really quite damning.

Color option A or B vote? Unsure, I really like A a lot and would prefer it now as a show car. But, if I'd been in the market at the time for a daily driver, I likely would have been more tempted by the less shouty option B.

Liked and only seen option B paint scheme. A dealer ship up in Massena N.Y down on Water street Ray's Rambler in 1968-69 sold the first known then Red White and Blue 390 Rambler Scrambler and Red White and Blue Rebel also a Deep dark blue 390 AMX . The three plants in Massena back then but no longer there except Alcoa which is reduced to nothing of it's former self had young workers just out of High school who bought all these hot cars along with Chevy Dodge Plymouth or Ford their best hot cars. Nothing was funnier than seeing a Super Bird cruising around town where there were not any roads for miles around to do the top end that car was designed to do for drag racing and having good breaks was the important thing up there along with snow in the winters of those times.

I love my Rambler Scrambler stories of it from when I first was told about and found it. The most fun I've ever had in an automobile. 70s for owning American Motors cars I will say this, Chevy II might be cool, but it don't compare not 10% To A Rambler Scrambler with the pizza box on the hood, as my Westerly Rhode Island Chevy friends used to call it, "hey Timmy where's your Rambler Scrambler with the pizza box on the hood"? On evenings I was in my 68 Javelin or 68 AMX.
