On "My Car Story" we're in Lake Geneva WI on 7-31-22.
We're looking at a 1969 American Motors AMC Ambassador SST in Alamosa Aqua Paint. The car has a 343 CI V8 engine, and an automatic transmission.
The car's Owner is Cindy Thompson. Cindy’s had this car since 2017. Cindy was a Fan of this UA-cam Channel, and I was fortunate to get the chance to have a phone call with her, and unfortunately she passed away. Her Husband Craig shares her car with us today, and I know Cindy is smiling down on us seeing this video of her car.
ENJOY!

Truly a bittersweet moment on the channel. This SST looks fantastic in that color and with all the wood grain trim. But, I'm positive Cindy was the real gem. Thanks Lou & Craig!
Hi TheGunfighter45acp, "Truly a bittersweet moment on the channel." Well said, agreed. You're welcome, Lou
Beautiful AMC. R.I.P. Cindy.
:-)
The best car is the car you love the best. Beautiful car!
Hi Tom, "The best car is the car you love the best." NICE! Lou
Bless him for keeping 'Cindy's car
Agree :-)
Much respect to Cindy 🙏🏿
Thank you for sharing Miguel :-)
I never realized how nice these cars were.Awesome sounding engine.
Hi Randall, Happy to read you enjoy this car :-) Lou
As soon as I saw this, I said to myself: What a beautiful color! I know how Cindy felt. One of the nicest riding cars ever built too.
Hi Wayne, Happy to read you enjoy the color and ride of this car :-) Lou
Had that car in brown back in 75 . Good memorry's
Hi Charlie B, Happy to read this car brings back memories of your brown car :-) Thank you for viewing and sharing, Lou
RIP Cindy : I enjoyed your car. Blue is my favorite color and this is a beautiful shade of blue. The wood grain accents on the side is unusual and I like it. I’ve always liked AMC cars they had better quality control than the others they seemed to be more concerned about their customers than the others that pushed them out of business. Thank you Lou for sharing Cindys baby with us.
Hi Czech Mate, Happy to read you enjoy Cindy's car :-) My pleasure sharing this car with you. You're welcome, Lou
Thanks Lou,beautiful car with a nice engine upgrade.R.I.P.Cindy.😇
Hi Keith, My pleasure sharing this car with you. You're welcome, Lou
Probably won't see another one absolutely amazing
Happy to read you appreciate the rarity and nice to read "absolutely amazing" :-)
Beautiful, loaded car. I had those same floor mats in my 65 Ambassador. This car reminds me of my 68 Rebel SST and my 70 Ambassador DPL.
Hi Daniel, Happy to read you enjoy this car :-) Glad to read this one reminds you of your cars, Lou
Beautiful car.
Hi John, Happy to read you enjoy the looks of this car :-) Lou
What a nice “Kenosha Cadillac.” Cindy knew her autos.
Nice :-)
Such a fun car then in 1969 .. a plain auto but gas it up and its time to travel .. dancing, parties, dates .. happy days adventures with friends -- solid frame, strong engine, a powerhouse ride --- fun stuff .. thanks Lou
Hi Noel, I like "fun stuff" :-) My pleasure sharing this one with you. You're welcome, Lou
Cindy had great taste !
Love the color, different wheels, side view mirrors, door handles, dual exhaust, badges, dash interior and roofline.
Hi clockwork914, Happy to read you enjoy Cindy's car :-) Thank you for viewing and sharing, Lou
My parents bought a new 1969 Ambassador DPL coupe that was Pompeii Yellow with a green interior. Dad wanted to buy the Ambassador station wagon, but mom fell in love with the coupe so he went with the coupe. It eventually became my brothers first car in high school. I was only 8 when they bought that car, but I remember it well and always thought it was a great looking car. Thanks for sharing this video and bringing back the memories.

Rich, Happy to read "that SST is amazing" :-) "I'm sure Cindy is looking down smiling" I agree. You're welcome, Lou
Grt feature and hommage to your viewer Cindy Lou. These were very nice cars in the day - this one is living proof. It may just be the best example anywhere.
Hi Audie, Happy to read you enjoy this homage to Cindy and her very nice car :-) Lou
Had a 68. 343 Ambassador. Good Car.
Hi Mark, Happy to read you had an Ambassador too :-) Lou
My high school friend's parents used to have an AMC Ambassador that we "cruised in", typical "big boat" floater that took a minute or two to settle down after driving over railroad tracks. LOL... fun times! Awesome jet mirrors and great colour on this ride - that teal metallic blue, so classic!
Hi CDN Citizen, Happy to read this car brings back memories of your High School Friends Parents car :-) Thank you for viewing and sharing, Lou
Back in the early '70s I lived in Kenosha Wisconsin and in the fourth grade I got to go through the assembly line and watch the cars being built. That was pretty cool. I've always loved the gremlin and the javelin AMX cars. The Air Max always had a unique body style that nobody else had and for the gremlin with a nice little V8 in them those things hauled ass.
Hi Scott, Happy to read this car brings back memories :-) Thank you for viewing and sharing, Lou
In the Kenosha area all police departments had matadors with the 390 in them. The highway patrol cars were a light brown color and the rims with the lights always impressed me. Looked intimidating.
Beautiful '69 Ambo Craig! I was privileged enough to work on Cindy's car (pinstriping). Kudos to you Craig, great job.
Hi Jim, Happy to read you enjoy the looks of this car, and worked on it too! NICE! Lou
32,000 miles is amazing, when i was a teenager and lived in NY i went to auto trade school half the days, it was called BOCES, a guy in class had an older brother that had an AMX with the 343. I watch some of the older car TV commercials with some former stars in them, such a great time for the auto business, even AMC when they made the REBEL with the 390/401 and Scrambler with the same engine.
Hi Jim, Happy to read this car brings back memories of your time in NY :-) Thank you for viewing and sharing, Lou
Thanks for showing Cindy's Ambassador.
American Motors - Hudson/Studebaker/Nash - made some of the finest American cars to hit the road.
Hi Jerry, My pleasure sharing Cindy's car with you :-) Lou
Spent 10 years of my life with our family's Hornet...kindergarten to high school....much of the switch gear is the same...Weather Eye, rotary AC knob for Desert Only....the paddle door handles...this car is a classic for sure and I'm happy to see it so well preserved and shared on UA-cam.

@@loucostabile Been a subscriber for quite awhile....I pretty much enjoy all the autos you have on your channel!
Hi Lou! Sorry to hear about Cindy passing away. My condolences to Craig. I'm sure Cindy is watching from above, and this is a wonderful way for Craig to remember the love his wife had for vintage cars.
I'm also happy that AMC cars are getting the attention they have missed out on after all these years. Sure, there were such cars like the Javelin, the AMX, the SC/Rambler, the Hornet SC/360, and others I may have forgotten, but hey, why not a 1969 Ambassador? Does this deserve recognition? You bet!
Anyway, thanks once again Lou, and Craig, once again, my condolences. Your wife is smiling down on you from above! _(11/15/2022)_
Hi Know Bodies Full, Happy to share this AMC car with you :-) "I'm sure Cindy is watching from above, and this is a wonderful way for Craig to remember the love his wife had for vintage cars. " Agree :-) Thank you for viewing, sharing, and you're welcome, Lou
Fantastic well preserved original with so much valuable enpherma. Maybe find its way to a museum, or another serious caretaker.
Almost makes someone search to find their own SST.
Thanks for the tour. AMC has style truly unique for the era. That body to rear bumper, and the wood grain accent, just right.

Beautiful AMC and great story. I miss sparkly floormats
Hi FUBAR Model Yard, Happy to read you enjoy the looks and story with this car :-) Lou
You know what I've learned about Ramblers Lou?? You either love em or you never liked them at all. They sold a lot of Ramblers, because they were affordable. I've worked on a lot of Ramblers. Their engines inside, are a nightmare to repair. But they could run for ever. Cindy's got a great car to drive there man. Keep em coming. Lar
My friend, Cindy passed away and her husband Craig is showing us her pride and joy. Just wanted to kind of whisper that in your ear. Thanks.
Hi Lar, Thank you for viewing and sharing your knowledge, Lou
Oh big bro Lou. See, man? I knew you were my big brother from another mother, and here you go and prove it. This one was truly from the heart and I am so moved as I write this. Cindy certainly had a beautiful AMC Abassador right there. Lovely color and so sleek and hot, man. You know-they called the Ambassador the "Kenosha Cadillac" and now I can see why. Beautiful Lake Geneva there, too. Just lovely, Lou. Thanks, my big brother. :) JV Johnny
Hi JV Johnny, Happy to read this one was truly from the heart :-) My pleasure sharing this one with you. You're welcome, Lou
Another sterling AMC classic with a touching backstory. Thanks for sharing it with all of us, Lou.
Hi AMCmachine, Happy to read you enjoy this "classic" and the story too :-) My pleasure sharing this one with you. You're welcome, Lou
Lou, I have always liked the styling of the 1969 / 72 AMC Ambassador.
Agostino, Happy to read you like the styling of this car :-)
Absolutely amazing, my first time seeing one of these
Happy to read "Absolutely amazing, my first time seeing one of these" NICE!
Nice story Lou.
Thank you Mike :-)
Cindy sure picked a beauty. Thanks for sharing. I have never seen one of these as a 2 door and some of the styling it has.
Hi danam0228, Happy to read you enjoy the looks of Cindy's car :-) You're welcome, Lou
Mr. Craig, my condolences on the passing of your Better-half. The AMC is a great looking car.

You always shine Lou with your humour & messages but tnis video you just absolutely nailed it.
10 out of 10.
This is what I love about your channel you get to see cars that I never knew existed.
Never knew there was a AMC Ambassador 2 door Hardtop SST.
Now I know.
Beautifully presented & that blue is so 60's.
Your number 1 Fan in Australia
Louis Kats from Melbourne Australia ☺ 👍 ❤
Goodday Louis, High praise for the episode :-) Glad to read this one is a car you were not aware of. My pleasure sharing with you. Thank you for being my # 1 Fan is Australia, Lou
R.I.P. Cindy for leaving the car people world behind.
Hi Brett, Pleasure sharing Cindy's car with you :-) Thank you for viewing and sharing, Lou
My first legal, insured, registered and on the road cars was a 1969 AMC Ambassador SST. It was a very bright yellow 4 door with a black vinyl top. It had been my father's car and it was extra after he purchased a 1979 Plymouth Volare. My brother wound up blowing the engine. I purchased a 360 out of a Jeep Grand Wagoner and installed it.
All the drive pulleys did not line up so I had a choice of running the alternator or the power steering at first. I carried an extra battery in the trunk for when I felt like power steering... I will have to say I learned a lot of shade tree mechanics with that car. We had a great time in it during my final year of high school and into college!
Hi Patrick, Happy to read this car brings back memories of your car :-) Thank you for viewing and sharing, Lou
That is a riot! LOL
Lou, Cindy picked herself one sweet ride and finally a really good rev!
Hi Brian, Happy to read you enjoy Cindy's choice :-) Bonus rev too! Lou
Another well done video of a beautiful car. I enjoy the back stories and the extra detail that comes from knowing the owners and their story.
Hi Ed, Happy to read you enjoy the looks of this car. My pleasure sharing the story with you. Lou
Sweet !!!!
:-)
Thank you, Lou and Craig. Craig, I'm sorry for your loss, and thank you for stepping up to share this car for us.
The reason for the under hood "gutters" mentioned by Lou, is that AMC had one size of width for the front structure of the cars, and it was the sized for their smaller cars. As a result, the bigger cars were widened using expanded panels that are inboard of the "gutters."
Hi disceningmind, Thank you for sharing your knowledge on the "gutters". My pleasure sharing this car with you. You're welcome, Lou
@Lou - stunning car - GREAT colour, glad that Cindy enjoyed it as much as we do here sir .. happy Tuesday - wonderful production/setting!
@Peter - Happy to read "stunning car" :-) Happy Tuesday. Appreciate the kind words on the video, Lou
Hermoso modelo AMC Ambassador SST 1969! ¡Saludos cordiales y bendiciones Lou!
Hi Jaime, Happy to read all the details you enjoy with this video of Cindy's car :-) Blessing received, and God bless you. Thank you for viewing and sharing, Lou
Nice car, rip to Cindy.
Hi Michael, Happy to read you enjoy Cindy's nice car :-) Thank you for viewing and sharing, Lou
What a beautiful car and beautiful Lady! This is really what the car hobby is all about. Making and sharing memories. I love the color combination too! Thanks for sharing this moving, inspiring video Lou and Craig! Rest in Heavenly Peace, dear Cindy!
Hi Jeffrey, "What a beautiful car and beautiful Lady!" Agree, Lou
It was a beautiful car Lou, but my favorite was at the end. It was a real classy touch to your video showing the car's first-class owners. Good job Lou.
Hi Dex M, Happy to read you enjoy the looks of this car and glad to share the photo with Cindy :-) Lou
32,000 original miles on this beauty - this car is still a child! I always wondered why odometers don't have 6 digits, thus avoiding cheating.
Hi Jay, Thank you for viewing and sharing, Lou
What a sweet tribute to Cindy , That is a very nice car, especially back in the day even though American Motors got a bad rap from the Chevy/ Ford fans.
Very nice of you to feature this car Lou, and it's very worthy of your channel that is for sure.
🙏
Thank you Scott K :-)
Hi, Lou! The Ambassador nameplate dated all the way back to 1927, when it was introduced by AMC's ancestor Nash. It became a Rambler in 1958, following Nash's cancellation, and remained the company's flagship car until it was phased out in 1974. 1969 was the best-selling Ambassador of all time, and was also the year AMC began using its red, white and blue logo made up of two triangles and a rectangle to form an "A". Funny, I never knew you could get those woodgrain accents on the coupe and sedan, but I must say the aqua color of Cindy's and Craig's car harmonizes perfectly with Lake Geneva!
Rest in peace, Cindy! BTW, I could hear a cardinal that God sent to sing for you and Craig to let you know everything is OK. The bird gives the Ambassador a "cheer" and he says it's "wheet, wheet, wheet"!
Hi iswc27, Thanks for sharing your knowledge. "I could hear a cardinal that God sent to sing for you and Craig to let you know everything is OK." Amen, Lou
My condolences to Craig, I'm so sorry for your loss and yet you're very gracious to share this feature with us under the circumstances - and Lou, thank you too! This SST Ambassador is a real gem, just love it, AMC really stepped up to the plate and this a fabulous example 👍
Hi Bruce H., Happy to share this "real gem" with you :-) Thank you for viewing, sharing, and you're welcome, Lou
It seems to me that buying a car like that back in 1969 was a big deal. All the options, the seating and paint and color variations. Now I buy a new car and get a choice of 5 paint colors, all black interior and take it or leave it. Want more information - download it!
This particular car has obviously been well cared for.
Hi John, "It seems to me that buying a car like that back in 1969 was a big deal" I'd agree. Thank you for viewing and sharing, Lou
Beautiful looking machine and has a great sound coming out of the exhaust, keep it up Lou, the more obscure the better.
Hi TonyButcher2, Happy to read you enjoy the looks and sounds from this car :-) Glad to read you enjoy this selection to share with you, Lou
I miss my 69 Ambassador coupe every day. It was technically my second car, I got it when I was in high school in 1979 (My first was a 66 Catalina that I had when I was only 15 and too young to drive). My Ambassador was frost white with a black vinyl roof and had the blue "Ventilaire" interior. It had almost everything this one has except the cruise control option. It was a Kenosha built car while this one appears to be a Brampton built model. I also had some very cumbersome shoulder belts that dangled from the headliner that I noticed were absent here. Looks a lot better without them!
Hi georgiahoosier, Happy to read this car brings back memories of your car :-) Thank you for viewing and sharing, Lou
Hey Lou, I don't think I've ever been in an AMC car. I remember someone in high school had an old Gremlin and you could hear it before you ever saw it! But this Ambassador is an excellent example of what AMC was all about. God bless you Cindy, may you rest in peace. I'm sure you are looking down at us and smiling at those of us who are enjoying this video and the beautiful car that was yours. As always, your attention to detail is geatly appreciated. AMC were truly one of a kind cars. When I think of AMC, I think of Gremlins and Pacers, maybe Hornets....but they were a lot more than that. This is a good example of AMC at it's best. The sound of the engine is fantastic! Thanks for the video. THUMBS UP!
Hey Brian, Happy to read your thoughts on this car :-) "God bless you Cindy, may you rest in peace. I'm sure you are looking down at us and smiling at those of us who are enjoying this video and the beautiful car that was yours" Agree. Glad to read you enjoy the sounds from this car. You're welcome, Lou
Thanks Lou for this video on the 1969 AMC Ambassador SST. It is a unique American luxury car! Great manufactured design, structure and details. Admiration and respect to Cindy and congratulations to her husband for showing us this wonderful American Motors classic muscle car.
Hi Juan, My pleasure sharing this car with you. Thank you for viewing, sharing, and you're welcome, Lou
Wow! You would think that it would've been the other way around where the 4-door sedan got the woodgrain and the 2-door hardtop would have gotten the brushed aluminum trim.
Those bucket seats and console featured in that brochure look lovely.
My dad bought a used 1971 Ambassador 4-door sedan from a friend of his. It was nowhere near as good-looking as this one.
That's probably the best-looking roofline of any 1969 American-made car of that size I've ever seen.
How do you know the 8 track is an RCA? If it was, it should sound excellent.
I was hoping, he would floor it for Cindy 😎
Hi Al, Happy to read this car brings back memories of your Dads car :-) Thank you for viewing and sharing, Lou
That Alamosa Aqua color is perfect! It's difficult to NOT look at.
Check out the data tag on the front of the passenger side valve cover, secured by a self tapper! You can see evidence of a little seepage. I saw an up-close shot of an AMC 360 which also had this, and couldn't believe that they would do that.
"Desert Only" is said to not cycle the compressor, and will ice up on you in less than desert temperatures. Sounds good going down the road at the end.
Hi Dan, Happy to read you enjoy the color of this car :-) Thank you for viewing and sharing, Lou
Beautiful car!!! Those are great cars, we had a 1970 Javelin when I was a kid..........thanks for sharing Lou
Hi Jeff, Happy to read you enjoy the looks of this car :-) You're welcome, Lou
What a beautiful color! I don’t think I’ve ever ridden in this make a car but it looks nifty
Hi Brock, Happy to read you enjoy the color of this car :-) Lou
Mine was just a little different. Same color but a four-door sedan.. owned by the untypical "old man". He used it to tow a big Airstream travel trailer. Ordered from the factory with a super-duty police suspension (huge anti-sway bars front and REAR and air shocks rear), 3.90 posi rearend, and the police interceptor 401. Put J70's all around, and 36" glasspacs, with 24" resonators on it. Stock quiet at idle... but it came to life under power. It would eat 383 Road Runners, 390 Mustangs, SS396 for breakfast. They were not happy getting beat by an "old man's" car!!!

Sounds great
Just the way we like it :-)
When I was in high school back in the'80s my brother picked up a 1968 Rebel with a 290 that was a fun car. The same year he bought a 1970 Rebel with a 390, looked similar to this one but had gold paint. That car had some serious torque and power!

Wow! I love that car! I have a couple Mopars from that era, and always appreciated AMC’s for their rarity and uniqueness. And it sounds beautiful. God bless you Cindy, you had great taste. 😎👍

I’m sure Cindy is watching from Heaven.
Hi Robert, Happy to read you enjoy the looks of this car :-) My pleasure sharing this car with you. "I’m sure Cindy is watching from Heaven." Agree, Lou
My aunt and uncle had a 1968 Ambassador SST, but theirs had the stacked headlights. It was one of the very first cars equipped with factory air conditioning I ever rode in as a kid, and it was ice cold too! Theirs had the Typhoon 343 engine. This 1969 Ambassador SST has some similarities to my aunt and uncle's car, but the body style is a little different. The engine sounded healthy, and it is in pristine condition. I loved riding in their Ambassador, especially on a hot summer day! Nice ride Lou!
Hi Michael, Happy to read this car brings back memories of your Aunt & Uncles car :-) Thank you for viewing and sharing, Lou
Love this car. The Desert Only A/C control is awesome. Almost sounds like a setting of last resort, a sort of "man the battle stations!" declaration. My best friend's dad had a '71 Ambassador Brougham wagon with that same control. Sad that Cindy has passed on but we've gotten to know her just a little bit with her classy taste in automobiles.
Hi Anthony C, Happy to read "Love this car" :-) Glad to read this car brings back memories of your Best Friends Dads car. Thank you for viewing and sharing, Lou
Sad to hear about Cindy and I had one of those gold in color black vinyl top 343 and mine the 343 script was on the rear of the vehicle.
HI Gary, Happy to read this car brings back memories of your car :-) Thank you for viewing and sharing, Lou
There's a really nice line in 401 crate motors that could make this a sleeper...
Thank you for sharing your thoughts.
Indeed a lovely paint color; Cindy was clearly a lady of impeccable taste. I think that one is Alamosa Aqua?
Hi AMCmachine, Happy to read you enjoy the looks of this car :-) Lou
Thanks!

I had a White 1969 ambassador SST, 343ci station wagon in high school ,reclining seats were great while parking with your girl. I had a steering wheel with a rectangular pad that I would stash my weed under it back in 1977 good times.😁 very dependable car never broke down.

Great car, great story. The Alamosa Aqua with a platinum interior along with the wood grain trim is an outstanding color combination. AMC was considered the little brother in the automotive industry but these cars have stood the test of time. What's somewhat rare about this one is that the 390-4V was standard on the SST I believe. One had to special order the 343 as a 'step down' option if you will. AMX's get all the attention, but I've always loved the Ambassador. Awesome video Lou!
High praise for this car & story :-) Thank you for viewing and sharing Classic Muscle Car Exhaust.
Cindy's Car! RIP 🙏
Thank you for viewing and sharing.
Those "gutters" were AMC's way of using a single sized engine bay for their full sized and compact lines. Learned that a couple weeks ago on another UA-cam channel.
Hi Seed_drill, Thank you for sharing what you learned, Lou
