Ok so here’s my theory on the chakras: I think when the Guru talked about detachment it isn’t isolation or rejection of connections like you let go of your personal connections instead, you do not let those connections tether you too much. I have the same thing with Jedi and their views on detachment. You don’t deny yourself connection but prevent them from controlling you. That means that if you do lose someone you love like Katara or Padme, you don’t go dark side to avenge them or prevent their deaths by any means possible including breaking nature. I think that’s what the Guru was talking about when he said the chakras were connected. Each pool leads to the detachment one, so Aang should have looked back to the other lessons: ie, accepting the nature of reality and teaching himself to let go of the attachments so they don’t rule him. I hope this makes sense.
Y'all don't even understand how bless y'all are right now, EVERY single episode from now to the end is just pure gold. Nothing but emotions and feels and, ohhhhh man you guys are gonna be a mess by the finale! I'm excited for you!
One interesting thing about Zuko and Azulas relationship with their parents is that it’s highly based on natural real life dynamics. A common saying is “A man’s first love is his mother, and a daughters first protector is her father.” So Zuko having a relationship with the mom and vice versa with Azula and their father makes complete sense and is actually based on real life inter-family social dynamics.
I love the storyboarding in this one. In basically every shot with Iroh talking to Zuko, it's taken from inside of the cell, so the way the camera is focused, it shows Iroh normally, but shows Zuko himself behind the bars, held back and captive to his turmoil.
yea they also talked about his bending skills being weaker than Azula's this ep, but forgot that one of the reasons that's the case is also because he split his training time between learning fire bending and swordsmanship, unlike Azula who focused solely on fire.
On why Iroh withholds information, and gradually shares with Zuko instead of giving to him all at once...... "Knowledge is knowing what to say, but wisdom is knowing when & how to say it." When you're not ready to hear something, you're not ready to listen either.
Oh.... OOOOHHHHH!! I just put it together! I've seen that beach scene so many times, but I've never noticed 1 important detail! This shit is so well written, layered, and subtle that I haven't realized it for all these years... 9:51 is the EXACT MOMENT Azula confirmed Zuko was lying about the Avatar being for sure dead! (spoilers) This implies that she couldn't totally read through Zuko's bluffs, but now, using the word "thinks", she confirmed it, and she could PLAN FOR IT. This, on top of already knowing about the general invasion plan, is some of the BEST WRITTEN FORESHADOWING I have ever seen in anything, ever.
I honestly think the Roku-Zuko twist is maybe the best narrative twists in all time. It completely re-contextualizes Zuko's entire character and relationship with the narrative without ret-conning anything previously established.
I won't say too much because it could lead to spoilers, so I'll just say this: Zuko and Azula are the product of horribly abusive and neglective parents. BOTH chose a child to "raise" and cast out the other. Ursula was no better than Ozai. Zuko became compassionate because of his mother, Azula became psychotic and power hungry because of her father. You can think of it like this; parents divorce, they each choose a child to take and ignore the others' existence (like parent trap) except they still live together.
Ursa was just as bad as Ozai? She was forced to marry him, so you could argue neither child is her responsibility. Also you're saying they each mimic their favourite parent then list positive traits for Ursa and bad for Ozai which is true but also destroys your earlier point about her being just as bad. And Ursa may have never rejected azula, it's just because Ozai saw her firebending power he preferred her and raised her as he wanted.
The thing about being "the chosen one" is a narrative crafted by Iroh His ancestry doesn't determine his destiny, Iroh is just using it to try to help Zuko figure out where he is at
I disagree. Iroh is very tuned into the spirit world, and we know he had visions of the future. He isn’t “crafting” anything, he just sees the signs no one else does: that Zuko is the catalyst for the fire nation’s tipping point. Zuko’s decision for good or bad might be undetermined, but the fact his decision will impact the fire nation IS determined. Iroh is explaining why this is the case, because of his ancestry. Avatar the Last Airbender really took the beach episode trope of anime, and made it so you REALLY DO watch it for the plot. Aaron Ehasz is an absolute MADLAD. also that slow mo shot of Aang twisting and torquing his body and shooting the fireball with Airbending is one of the COOLEST shots in all the series. Airbending is so OP. ALSO ALSO everyone loves to make fun of Roku for dying to a volcano but that mf went out like a BADASS cause he DIED TO A VOLCANO. Like he didn't just let it wreak havoc, he didn't try and runaway...he knew his time was up and accepted it. Respect.
Since Avatar Roku died too soon Aang took his place and since Avatar spirits are connected Aang is basically the spirit of Zuko’s great grandfather. Aang and Zuko are connected but not related of course.
The reason why Iroh gave the cold shoulder is because he has been gently pushing Zuko thru out the seasons, the last time before piercing Aang with lightning was the one time he went Straight with him. Asking him "What do YOU want ?" and it still didn't work, well it does as we know but he wasn't about to repeat the same mistake again, not before Zuko himself shows progress, so he can make wisdom on his own.

At the start of episode 6 Sozin catches Roku when he falls, but then let's him drop anyway. Love the writing in this show
When you even write bookends into flashbacks, you've got some sick talent
That blonde girl didn't really pay attention a lot throughout the second episode
A common saying is “A man’s first love is his mother, and a daughters first protector is her father.”
So Zuko having a relationship with the mom and vice versa with Azula and their father makes complete sense and is actually based on real life inter-family social dynamics.
Azula looks like a sociopath. She is a great liar and manipulator. Sometimes it seems that she is incapable of sincere positive emotions
I love the storyboarding in this one. In basically every shot with Iroh talking to Zuko, it's taken from inside of the cell, so the way the camera is focused, it shows Iroh normally, but shows Zuko himself behind the bars, held back and captive to his turmoil.

There's also Zuko's dual swords showing his duality.
yea they also talked about his bending skills being weaker than Azula's this ep, but forgot that one of the reasons that's the case is also because he split his training time between learning fire bending and swordsmanship, unlike Azula who focused solely on fire.
@@thekamotodragon Azula was a better Firebender even before Zuko got into training with his swords. Azula was just a prodigy. Zuko wasn't.
On why Iroh withholds information, and gradually shares with Zuko instead of giving to him all at once...... "Knowledge is knowing what to say, but wisdom is knowing when & how to say it." When you're not ready to hear something, you're not ready to listen either.
This was the first episode with Greg Baldwin as the voice of Uncle Iroh. He does a great job, but there's only one Mako. RIP
23:41 who would have thought this line would refer to Toph befriending Korra later on 😢
That episode 6 answered zuko's question...i love that episode
Thats why Zuko is him. He is the descendant of two powerful benders Avatar Roku and Firelord Sozin.
Oh....
(spoilers)
This implies that she couldn't totally read through Zuko's bluffs, but now, using the word "thinks", she confirmed it, and she could PLAN FOR IT.
I won't say too much because it could lead to spoilers, so I'll just say this:
Zuko and Azula are the product of horribly abusive and neglective parents.
Zuko realized he had been betraying his mother the entire time he was an enemy of the avatar.
The thing about being "the chosen one" is a narrative crafted by Iroh
His ancestry doesn't determine his destiny, Iroh is just using it to try to help Zuko figure out where he is at
Yes he is helping Zuko, but he’s also warning him. His ancestry doesn’t de
@@dearthofdoohickeys4703 But being the great grandson of the avatar doesn't affect literally anything at any point, it's literally only brought up by Iroh and never even shows up again in the plot
@@jogadorjnc It absolutely does. It shows up in the fact Zuko wants to do good even when it’s difficult for him. It shows up in his relationship with his mother. It’s fundamental to his character. Just because they don’t constantly talk about it doesn’t mean it’s not important.
@@dearthofdoohickeys4703 You think he wouldn't have had his arc if one of his great grand parents was different?
Azula needed a Yujiro Hanma type of dude the way she was talking to Chan
I always forget that Ron Pearlman voices Sozin until I get to this episode
They did such a good job casting Slade’s VA, even if it was a one episode thing. Voice was absolutely perfect
“Do you think friendships can last more than one lifetime?” Remember that 😭
The people who question why roku stayed need to lear how volcanoes work. If he didnt slow ot down everyone wouldve died from the smoke alone.
I always just assumed there were animals or stragglers still getting off the island. Just because we saw his wife on a boat doesn’t mean everyone was gone at that point.
@ssj4rit If your house and the rest of your neighborhood was on fire and you had the ability to try and put it out, you'd do it even if everyone is already out
That and it was his home. I'm sure if given the chance especially with the capabilities, most would try to save their home as well.
Please hurry I'm dying to see you guys watching the final episodes 😂
The reason why Iroh gave the cold shoulder is because he has been gently pushing Zuko thru out the seasons, the last time before piercing Aang with lightning was the one time he went Straight with him. Asking him "What do YOU want ?" and it still didn't work, well it does as we know but he wasn't about to repeat the same mistake again, not before Zuko himself shows progress, so he can make wisdom on his own.
26:43 "Or like a pig." Someone's been playing Minecraft!
Episod 45-46: of appreciating the ladies of Studio Gek.
Lol "The Big Island" is actually the main island of Hawai'i. Each island in the chain has it's own name (Honolulu is on Oahu and is the most populated) the Big island is really named Hawai'i Island but to avoid confusion we call it the the "big island". It has the tallest mountain in the world, Mauna Kea, she's thousands of feet taller than Everest but her feet are underwater.
Maddie what was in your nails?!?! you missed the entire second episode 😭
Roku: "I'm sparing you Sozin"
also Roku: *holding back Kyoshi from going apeshit*
Damn Maddie, what did those fingernails do to you? 😂😂
lowkey i feel like Zuko has super strength 😂 the boy shatters chains with a heel kick, and can throws a guy across a room with a 1 inch punch, plus more!
Remember that quote from Toph.
Here we goooo!! These 12pm (my time) uploads are my favorite time of day
21:27 But Sozin wasn't bending any magma. He was lowering the temperature by bending the smoke.
I will never not love Cannon ❤
Best dude ever! 💪🏼
23:40
idk toph u tell us
That beach looked literally identical to the one in the episode lol, what beach was that???
The gurl reacting in the middle needs to understand from all perspectives not just one sided ideals, she's always negative. Other than that I love the reactions guys!
Y’all skipped right over one of the best fighting scenes of the entire show?? The beginning of the fight against combustion man is crazzyyt
Zukos lineage is probably a top 5 episode for me
RAAHHHHHHHHHH! I'VE BEEN WAITING FOR THIS EPISODE.
For me 8:01 kills it especially when Aangs literally goes through that boulder 🪨,it was so badass 🤩💯
The only thing I didn’t understand is why Roku didn’t stop fighting the volcano when everyone escaped, their homes where already destroyed
@26:42 this is how you know who played minecraft & who didn't lmao
Azul means blue in spanish, so I think writers named her Azula because she was gonna have blue flames. Also Azulon, Azula's grandfather, might have also had blue flames.
Edit: also blue fire is more pure and burns at hotter temperature compare to red fire which has less temperature
Bro if I found out my best friend was the avatar I'd be hyped 😭
Some insightful commentary. Really jumping into the thought process's of each character is what makes ATLA so great
Season 3 episode 6 is my favorite episode of the whole series.
After avatar the last Airbender we want legend of korra ❤❤❤
Please watch Legend of Korra. Don't let the hate stop you from watching a good show. Nothing is better than ATLA, but it's still worth the watch, in my opinion.
I usually don't comment on reactions cuz it's none of my business what anyone does, but goddamn Maddie who picks their nails for half an hour lol
So Avatar Roku stayed behind to battle the volcano cause he didn’t know if his family escaped. They got separated and there was no way he was going to stop if it was possible he could have saved them.
Also Sozin totally showed up intending to save his old friend. It was only the moment he saw the gas hitting Roku where he realized how Roku’s death could impact his plans.
At the end of the day Attitude is the little, thing that makes a big difference Two sides different story's but still collide.
What's the name of the guy in white hoodie?
6:22 gotta love the Bruce Lee reference
Why didn’t you include the reaction to first seeing combustion man’s power? Was really looking forward to that 🫤
The avatar and the fire lord is the best episode of the series
Too bad she didnt really "watch" the episode
yeah, one of the best episodes in the entire show and she was just picking the skin off her nails, wtf. it was so distracting.
@@Afreshioyeah how do you do that for 20 straight minutes lol
You guys gon do a video ranking all the openings and endings for all the shows you've watched? Sorry if I missed the announcement about it.
Azula fire is powerfull indeed but In the comics the story continues and theres a situation where azula lets out lightning so powerfull its scared all the spirits
these two episodes are so good
Finally made it to the beach
Every episode is her favorite episode
Wait, how did you know about big island? Vacation I’m guessing 😂 never thought anyone knew of that place
This is one of my favorite episodes 🤧
