the reason is: those codecs arent free.
on windows or mac, the codec price is embeded to the operating system price, on linux, its not, so davinci has to provide the codec thenselves, and they cant do it for free.

True BUT the fact that Resolve is free on two of the three platforms is a huge turn off for me. Kdenlive, Olive, Shotcut hell even Flowblade are ALL free and still include many of the codecs found in Resolve. Its not a matter of one version of the software being free it's a matter of there's up and coming options that pull it off regardless while still being free. It can be done but because Linux is huge in the Vfx department Blackmagic is trying to get their slice of that pie on Linux.
