I tried talking to the birds outside with my Arp Odessey. After 30 minutes, it seemed we were having a conversation. My girlfriend at the time was freaking out.
That is awesome. I sit on my porch sometimes and do the same thing with VCV Rack and a bluetooth speaker. I'll just make a generative patch and map the controls to my synth, then I use a Boss DD-3 guitar pedal to modulate stuff in VCV because my pedal self-oscillates at full feedback. The birds and squirrels definitely talk back
Dude. This is really cool. I wish I'd found out about you sooner. I feel embarrassed that I wasn't aware of your body of work before you started this channel. That said, this has quickly become one of my favourite channels. Your videos are top notch but that shouldn't surprise me because your music is all top notch as well. Cheers.
I had the longest work week, spread out over five different trips at as many airports. So I can’t express how much I appreciate this creative and relaxing treat. My stress level is definitely improving. Good on you, Anthony and thank you.
The whole video through I kept smiling because the sounds are superrcute. I totally felt like on a forest walk. On Microwave XT there is a certain bird preset: The first time playing it, my (then) kitten immediately started moving its head towards the sky (in that case just the wainscot on the ceiling) with big irritation about audio birds in the room. As respect to the cat I just did that once. However your bird/frog patches obviously are the best synthesized ones..
Very interesting! It’s also interesting to know that a lot of animals in nature use FM as a means of communication. It makes you think how much information is packed into each chirp. I never realized that there is no velocity on the Synclavier.
These would be great for some atmospheric moments during a bridge or intro, or added texture under the melody. Gonna try this in my FM synth! I’m not sure how many operators per partial the Synclavier has but most of these partials sound like 1 or 2, so I think I should have enough!
Oh man this makes me SO happy! I also spent a lot of time programming birds, crickets, and even the sound of laughter, and it's just the most calming task for me. I love it! Great video!
I love those videos as they push me to teach myself how to use my new synth by trying to recreate. It would be awesome if perhaps one day you could actually dive a little bit more in depth of each partial.
I am lucky enough to live in Uruguay, where birds are so happy to live also. 160 species only on my small region. So instead of trying to copy it, I use them as samples. We have a bird called Zorzal, very beautiful voice... I love to have it as musician when I am composing.... thank you for your videos, I learn something every time....
YES❤ Thank you for continuing to surprise us, good sir! And thank you for doing the highly anticipated Thriller frog patch on the casiotone video you posted a few days ago! 🎉 5:12-5:33 is very infomative regarding one of the differences between subtractive and fm. Listening to the final sequence near the end of the video reminds me of the intro on YMO - Computer Games 5:49🎉
Did you ever try just sampling bird songs & calls through the Synclavier back in the 1980s? Or did the FM synthesis provide more clarity than noisy samples ?
I created once a sample in Soundforge from another total different sample and it sounds like a bird. After playin this sample ca 15 times a bird landed infront of my opened window and looked searching into my flat 😮
I'm curious, did you create these sounds using example recordings of real animals and attempting to recreate them? Or was this done using just using your imagination?
Hi Antonio, com stai? , could I make you a sound question? Is this sound minute 12, the uuuuUUUUUaaa ua-cam.com/video/JOuWnlqAVcs/v-deo.html that sounds as a 303 slide more or less. Are one note after a far one with portamento, a EG into a OSC? since it´s on topic with the bird sound. Thanks amico mio
There is a famous kind of early morning bird preset sound that were used a lot in the 80's and 90's, i know it is a preset bud i don't remember the synth. It's a kind of "early morning in the jungle high bird-alike sound" 🤔 It is bugging me years not to know from what synth this comes, anybody an idea?
I tried talking to the birds outside with my Arp Odessey. After 30 minutes, it seemed we were having a conversation. My girlfriend at the time was freaking out.
You should have tried out with TB-303...
@@jimbotron70 I didn’t have one, and there’s not enough modulation options on that synth.
Haha, freaking out like "Why am I dating this person?" lol their loss if so!! :P
@@jimbotron70 jajaa that was my dad saying to me when i was djing, are those birds? jajaja

Anthony Marinelli you're my Bob Ross of synthesis!
PERFECT!
Yes haha
A really relaxing lesson on joyful synthesis.
As a professional film sound designer and synth nerd I find this very inspiring. FM is way underrated these days. Thanks for sharing.
Very nice and surprisingly realistic. Fantastic skill set. In a movie scene you'd never know otherwise. Thanks for sharing!
I love doing stuff like this. I made an oceanside scene, including seagulls, with an Arp Odyssey and with the right mixing it makes damn good foley.
This is my new favorite UA-cam channel. You rule, Anthony! I blasted THRILLER in the car earlier after discovering your channel recently!
Looks like birds were into FM synthesis long before humans! 🐦

The free Quilcom Electric Bird VST for Windows is great fun for synthesised bird sounds 👍
I had the longest work week, spread out over five different trips at as many airports.

Brilliant!
I would love to see a video of the resynthesizing process, supercool feature that I had never heard of before.
I second that.
AMAZING sound design n groove 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🙌🏾🙌🏾🙌🏾🙌🏾🙌🏾
Nature, is a beautiful thing.
Keep it up man we wanted this content forever.
Alternate title: "Why do synths suddenly appear, every time you are near?"
You're a genius. ❤ from Burundi 🇧🇮
Your channel is golden! Thank you for all your insights. Breakdown of sound design for a novice like me is invaluable.
I'm so glad the Synclavier has been remade, plus more funtionality and in a small package.
Adorable. So much to learn from nature! Birds make music too!

That would be a cool way to create a unique “alien planet” soundscape that ties together with itself
More nature sounds please. running water, water drops, rain, lightnings
as a sound designer this gave me some great ideas thank you
It‘s such a gift to get this Synclavier tutorial from you, Anthony, thank you so very much! ❤

Thank you for uncovering the mysteries of the mighty synclavier. It’s a true joy to watch these videos!

Gonna try this in my FM synth!

Interesting, not surefire heard synthesized laughter before.
Do you have anymore tips for these kinds of sounds?
I love those videos as they push me to teach myself how to use my new synth by trying to recreate. It would be awesome if perhaps one day you could actually dive a little bit more in depth of each partial.
Love this, more organic synthesizer techniques please
Thanks for the tips. I love doing all kinds of weird sounds, helicopter's i've done quite a few and of course the train! FM is great!
Reminds me of that Lauryn Hill song the ex factor. Always wondered how it was done

Loving birds and this channel ❤
That sounds fabulous I love hearing wildlife and nature that’s pretty close thank you for sharing god bless ❤
I think you have an old bird in that synclavier with its tail tied to the keys. 😁
Second one sounds a little like the Australian magpie 😊 it has a distinctive and beautiful warble

Mr Marinelli is my favorite music teacher.💯👍
tweet tweet tweet , cool sounds
The Korg MS20 has a delayed envelope that's good for this.
T❤is is a awesome Video. I am Not a noob in Synthesizer but watching your Video brings my Knowledge and view to another Level. Thanks ❤😊
I made a cool cricket out of a square bass 😁👍 This is really cool, thanks for sharing! 🙌
insane that this was made in 80s
Great video! Waiting on a video using that Chroma!
Lovely... will experiment with my FM synths those ideas, inspiring.
Another great insight well delivered.

FM Is not ideal for complex natural sounds.
My cat loves this!
Wow this is amazing!!! When Arturia runs a sale on the Synclavier I will make sure to get it.
Beautiful
This is incredible, thanks for explaining!
Amazing
So cool ⭐️⭐️⭐️
All sounds like _Space Invaders_ to me 🧙♂
Sounds better than real birds imo. Be careful playing these to your budgies, they may fall in love! ❤️
GENIUS!!
Jurassic Park vibes

Great stuff!❤
I tried to make a Jungle using Absynth 5 about a year ago....best 4 hours...
Would love to see a vid of this
@@G.Man-
If you search " Halftone Jungle " it should pop up ( it was 2 hours, not 4 )....was awesome though

Coooooooool!!!! 😲
Listen, I think like a bird. You think like several Einsteins in parallel..
Need to try on my korg op6 😊
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
