  • Hey guys. I've been meaning to get into making video game reviews for the reasons I outlined in the introduction. I will be continuing to make more review videos as I really want to get my opinion out there and I know a lot of people who think as I do.
The game we will be looking at is Madness Project Nexus. There isn't any specific reason as to why I picked this game. I've just been playing it recently and I didn't see any reviews for it so I thought it'd be good to have one for it. I don't expect the video to get much views or whatever its moreso practice as I take on more games. Despite that, I think I did a pretty nice job of describing the overall feel and worth of it.
I am obviously open to discussions on the topic in the descriptions. I'd also love feedback on what parts of the video you guys liked and what parts I can improve on. Lastly, I know the footage is a bit choppy but my computer is a little horrible so its all I got to work with.

the visuals imo are a really good translation from the 2d animations to a 3d space where it expands in obvious ways without taking away or minimizing the source material's style at all.

very good review I agree with you on almost everything, except for the music, I have listened to almost the entire soundtrack of the game and I have to say that most of the music is incredible, only one or two songs seemed ok but I guess everyone has different tastes in music, good vide

Dude I have to say this year has been great for my childhood. I found out madness got this game, then The Last Stand got Aftermath two weeks ago...
I grew up playing and watching both series on newgrounds and I can't say how happy it makes me to see both get full-release entries that lovingly stay true to the source material.
Even if it does make me forget what year it is.

This game has a flash predesessor. So its a second game in the series that continues a different storyline from cartoons, as the first one did. As a fan of madness combat this was a game i was waiting for and didnt get dissapointed. But if you arent a fan, this game is still the best way to know madness from games(and get to slaughter hundreds of enemies with kick ass soundtrack). I still reccomend to watch the cartoons as they are worth it. The game is a masterpiece of desighn and as a person who gets bored fast of doing one thing over and over i passed the arena mode 4 times, and that tells me something about replayability. Thanks for shining some light on this game as it deserves it.

The armored enemies are somewhat an omage to the original Project Nexus Flash Game, it doesn't teaches you how to deal with it, you were only taught how to shoot and how to use the slow mo feature but when it comes to the armored enemy, the game just lets you how to deal with it. It doesn't spoon feeds the player how to do everything, just do what comes natural.

  • @hayond656

Yeah they should make a better tutorial, the tutorial level gives adequate info, but not enough
It just shows you what button to press basically
I think the best example would be the Shift to aim higher, it doesn't show anywhere in the tutorial that you can use this to headshot, You just shoot a stopsign
Also the big guy take downs, he comes into the room permanently in Takedown state
It doesn't tell you what to do to actually get them into that state

"If a video game makes a brave artistic statement but it is a piece of shit to play then it is objectively a piece of shit game"
I am sorry but if you think games should be "fun-centric" you don't actually *want* games. You want toys.
Nothing wrong with wanting toys, I love toys, I got 1.6k hours on PayDay 2 and that game is pure mindless fun, but saying that a game has to be "fun" to be good or else it is objectively bad is the equivalent of someone who thinks that if a movie is slower than the average Marvel blockbuster that means that movie is objectively unwatchable.
PayDay 2 is very fun however the experience will never compete in quality with the hours I spent pondering over and discussing the message and themes of games like Spec Ops: The Line, Hotline Miami, Prey, Undertale and Dark Souls. Those games might have fun gameplay (spec ops the line is considered quite rough about the edges by many but regardless) however what makes those games above average is the deep thought that was put into them, their artistic value, their themes, their *soul* if you will, a soul that is not fun-centric but rather centered around a vision deeper than making the average gamer have some fun for a few hours.
Also I would like to point out the fact that very rarely a game comes along that makes a groundbreaking statement while also being a piece of shit to play. If someone wanted to make a walking simulator packed with their own philosophical ramblings, that wouldn't be artistic but self masturbatory and pretentious. But lets entertain that idea. If a game is "bad" on purpose or due to a lack of funding while having an (actually) groundbreaking artistic message, why is that game "objectively a piece of shit". What is "objective" about a value judgement? Did some higher heavenly authority deem any piece of media "objectively a piece of shit"? I truly missed the memo of value judgements somehow becoming objective.
