I was delighted to see him in an interview a few years ago and realized what a well rounded individual he is. I wanna go on a date with a man like him. Easy to talk and listen to
To be fair for everyone bitching about this being a prince interview, Morris literally titled his book “ a princely life” LOL there is no conversation about Prince without Morris Day and no conversation about Morris without Prince. End of story.
Morris been low key dissing Prince Throughout these interviews. Ya'll really think people would care about Morris Memoir without the mention of Prince?
I don't think he's hurt but I do think he feels betrayed considering these guys have been friends since childhood and I am sure Morris thought when he put The Time together that Prince would let those guys write and produce for themselves which never happened. Prince was a talented guy no doubt but as a friend, he wasn't very good to Morris. Vanity told a story that the reason she broke up with him was because of his controlling nature and she didn't like it and told Prince that but he wouldn't change so he ran her off as well.
I'm sure he's still a bit angry about certain things, and, assuming he's telling the truth, Prince did shit on him on a few occasions. But the fact is that had it not been for Prince, Morris would have never become a star and achieved success in the music industry. Had it not been for Prince, he probably would have spent the rest of his life working in that Montgomery Ward store in Gaithersburg, MD.
Morris Day is down to earth. I met him and Prince and Larry Graham the same night. Prince never said a word, Larry was cool, but Morris was super cool. Larry actually gave me some bass strings that he actually used and signed my GCS C.D. MGM Las Vegas at Studio 54 in none other than 1999. My best friend actually got to talk to Prince for a few minutes which was incredible. What a show!
My Mom meet Prince & called him Roger at a Studio, cause my Step Dad knew his father & she showed him my picture, I was 15urs old & he couldn't believe that I was into him & went to his concert. She said that he didn't say a word when he saw my picture, just smiled.****
Morris Day is kind, sensitive, thought-provoking, and is quite an articulate good looking man with his own unique sense of style and class. I love hearing him in the long-form interview. Great stuff!
Morris is still the coolest dude! He seems to be unbelievably truthful too. No need to make up stuff about Prince as he's had a amazing life himself... I wish Vladimir would've asked Morris more about himself rather all the questions about Prince. Morris is STILL the man😎
I agree. At times, I felt the interviewer bulldozed right through one question to the next. He really missed some golden opportunities to follow up and dig deeper with Mr. Day. Mr. Day is an absolute class act, an amazing musician, and a very talented entertainer. Thank you for sharing some of your experiences!
MORRIS DAY in purple rain trying to talk to Appollonia: "...either somebody put something in my drink or you the finest..." has got to be the coolest singular player moment in time!
CRAZY THING ABOUT PRINCE,MICHAEL JACKSON AND RICK JAMES IS THEY ALL DIED IN THEIR 50'S.THEY DIDN'T LIVE A LONG LIFE IN THE END,BUT WE'LL NEVER FORGET THEIR TIME ON THIS EARTH.R.I.P. BROTHERS
Well Morris you are part of the Funk Music Legacy, The Time has been from the get go. Your path matters you are in the lineage and i''m so happy that you are well and things have worked out. Hell I thought all you guys were Prince acting and in the 80's you kinda had to be, but you and Andre are real brothas and I appreciate that. What I would give to hear one of those cassette tapes of the three of you rehearsing and jamming, man. You guys really put together your own brand and it WORKED.
Well... I saw Prince when he was on tour in Houston, Texas many years ago when his Soft and Wet single was a hit song. Rick James was the headliner and the concert to go to at that time. Prince was the opener with Bootsy's Rubber Band coming on second!! Imagine that today??? Prince, Bootsy, and Rick James on one show!!! Concerts were soooo good back then and were affordable. Prince was not received well at all at this show. Everyone was aghast at the attire that he and his band wore. Andre Cymone had on see through pants, Dez had on rock garb, and Prince was dressed like...Prince. No one knew what to think of them at that time. Only Soft & Wet was familiar to the crowd and the rest of his set people were booing loudly and chanting We Want Rick (Rick James) especially when he started singing Still Waiting. My friends and I loved Prince even at that early age. A superstar in the making...
Great to see you Morris, you're humble and fun and true to yourself. And you're no joke to listen to. Long life to you, man, and keep on bringing the funk :)
Morris just keeps getting more valuable as a person as I get to learn and see what kind of human being he really is!! We already know how gifted he is as a singer, songwriter, dancer, entertainer, actor, etc. But, boy, who he is as a human being as I'm beginning to learn and see in him just amazes me and I have so much respect and admiration for his character and heart. What a great man he is!! His talent is just extra!! You inspire me!!
@@WhineyOne But he did tho lol, you must didn't watch this whole interview because plainly states that he and Jerome both rewrote their lines in the script to make it feel and sound like its really how they would've said it. That's closer to improvisation then it is to following lines in a script, in my opinion.
@@mmafan3 That's how the movie was meant to be that's what you call a protagonist and antagonist, he was the day to Prince night. his parts in the film were personally my favorites (next to the lake minnetonka scene of course lol)

Please the movie was totally about the music. None of them could really act except the "father" role. That movie would have done fine with Morris, it was ALL about the music.
My GOD! What an amazing INTERVEW!! The best by far! I have seen so many talks with Morris Day, even met him at a few clubs while he was performing and he always seemed a bit out of place and maybe just a bit too much into his character/persona? He rarely seemed to be real and just down to earth it seemed? Here he seems totally real and giving it his best disclosure of his history and experiences. He really seems like he's just being his true self. A really straight forward (No BS) conversation. Its truly good to see him like this, he seems like he's come full circle with his past and present life experience! Amazing interview!
All my respect and admiration to Mr. Morris Days. I can tell by this interview how humble the man is. All he had for Prince during this interview was good complementing words. Thank you for all that great music from the good old days.
I love the Time also,@Purple Rain ☔☔💜💜💜 Let the truth be told , you're looking Good Mr Morris Day 💜 love the early 80's music 🎶🎵 don't understand this New generation 🤨🤔 have of it don't understand 😱🤪
The Time is an example of "everything happens as it should" Jam & Lewis fired (freed) become the greatest producers of all time, Jesse Johnson had a stellar solo career, Morris Day solo career and acting, Monte & Jellybean became great producers among other things, Jerome did some acting, contributed to The Time' s stage presence as well as production things but image for a moment if they took the lesser road and complained about everything where would they be???
Morris sounds like such a down to earth, level headed cat. Most drummers are cool people. He brought so much to the Purple Rain movie. He was so funny. Lots of personality.
Morris , I loved you then and I love you now. You are truly a class act and you kept it 100 without demeaning the Legacy of a great man who had flaws. Life is real and Karma truly exists.
LOVE MORRIS DAY AND THE TIME. I'm sad that Prince didn't treat them right when it came to the money. I'm glad that they still do shows. God bless them!!!
You can tell that there was way more untold stories and tension between Morris Day and Prince , he just didn't wanna get into all the sticky details and maybe also out of respect because Prince has passed.
Watching this great interview with Morris Day what a cool and humble guy. I have been listening to The Time since I was 8 yrs old one of my first tapes I ever had. As a kid in 1984 watching Purple Rain Morris Day was the villain of the movie always messing with Prince. Watching this interview in real life Prince was the villain always fucking Morris Day over his whole life! Morris Day I wish you the best in life and never stop making great music.
cuz he sucks lol he's a guy who's getting off on being the guy who interviews people as opposed to just being in awe of interviewing THESE PEOPLE... He's got no insight and it's mostly tabloidy and heresay...he responds with "Okay." and "Oh, Absolutely." Dull stuff and - omfg he just did the "Ok" things again... I'm outtie. F this lol
Prince gave Morris everything. He took him from behind his drum kit (he was originally supposed to be the drummer), gave him his personae, instructions on how to rock that, gave him all the songs and the rest is a wrap. Morris was so stressed out about being thrust in front as the singer that Prince literally told him to just "be coo'".
@@Oxygen257: This interview was about him and Prince, since Prince practically started Morris Day's career. He still has a nice voice---I grew up liking the Time just as much as Prince, and he was the funniest thing in Purple Rain, for real. And he was a sharp dresser, too. Cool to see that he's still around and performing. I had no idea he knew Prince before he was famous, so that's something new I learned.
Prince was a musical genius and a true legend, but, as Morris attests here, he was a true asshole. If canceling a gig for Morris and his band at the last minute wasn't bad enough, not offering to reimburse Morris for the expenses was really shitty. As Morris pointed out, Prince had just made $17 million off Purple Rain, and Morris played an integral role in the movie becoming so immensely successful. (The truth of the matter is that from a theatrical standpoint, Morris was the man of that movie and stole the show.) He certainly had the finances to reimburse Morris. Had that been me, I would never spoken to that little bastard ever again.
From a theatrical standpoint Purple Rain was terrible, Joe. Ain’t nobody in that movie could act worth a damn, and Morris didn’t steal any type of show. We all love that movie for the same reason: the music.
@@thedaily30 I disagree. I don't know how old you are or how far back you can go, but when it was released back in '84, just about everyone loved Morris in this movie. He was very humorous and engaging. True, many of the others in this film weren't good actors, but Morris was entertaining.
@joe jones Fair enough; I don’t disagree with you there. I just don’t feel as if he was “the man of the movie” or as if he stole the show. I do remember the entire theatre laughing they asses off when Morris was doing Morris, but when most people think of Purple Rain, I don’t believe they think of Morris Day first. But I’m happy to agree to disagree on that. Peace King.
@@thedaily30 Mind you I said from a "theatrical standpoint" that Morris stole the show. But yes Prince and his musical performances was what made the movie overall. But Morris' comedic relief helped support the success of the film too.
This is a true legend with or without Prince. I know Prince created this band but, they had their own style. Just cool and classic. He brought something out of them. The Time has some classic timeless albums
I got into Prince because of the Time. Prince always said that the time was always just him and Morris. That's why he objected to them using the name later. He was a dick, but he had his reasons. I don't understand how you could be religious yet treat your friends like dirt.
Totally agree...He talked about the industry treating him like a slave but yet does the same thing to his so-called friends which helped him make his money. H~
The Jehovah witness religion is completely different from Christianity. I have researched the Jehovah witness religion extensively because one of my lifelong friends became a Jehovah witness and will no longer talk to me because I am Christian. Not only is it sad, it’s heartbreaking. 😢😢😢 if any of you decide to research the Jehovah witness religion for yourself, I think you will find it quite surprising what they believe.
Damn who's interview was this Prince or Morris Days. Vlad didnt give him his just due. Prince is a icon but Morris Daye is a legend in his own right. Vlad should've shown him more respect
Benjamin Stevens, I agree ONE HUNDRED PERCENT!!!! Man! Too ouch! However, Morris handled it well. But I thought the interview was billed as Morris Day being interviewed, solely. Yet, I guess, this is Morris’s opinion on Prince and Rick James and other musicians.
Now this is a better interview. I'm glad Morris mentioned Andre Cymone, Jimmy Jam, Terry Lewis, Alexander O'Neal, St. Paul, etc. The Minneapolis sound goes well beyond Prince, there were so many others who was part of their family.
Morris Day. Total self-effacing, kind, and professional. Always the gentleman. LOVE Morris Day and The Time. Thank you, Morris, for the memories. Here's to many more.
I gotta say, that Morris Day has to be Princes most true and loyal friend. Mr Day is a true artist, and just a plain good human being. I listen to this interview, and he is far from the role he masterfully portrayed in the movie "Purple Rain"...I can't say enough about him, articulate and honest....thankyou for sharing your art with all of us!
Because Prince didn’t do interviews, Morris was doing all of the David Letterman late night talk shows for Purple Rain PR. He was as famous as Prince as far as pop culture for that short time. Plus, he and Jerome stole the movie, IMO.
onesong2001 Not true. I’m a life long musician. But it was their natural sense of humor that counterbalances Prince’s more serious moments in the movie. Of course the entire movie was great. The live music scenes. Apollonia jumping into the lake. Prince finding his father’s music. Contrast it to Prince’s attempt at humor in Under the Cherry Moon and it becomes apparent how important comedic relief is in any movie, regardless of the great soundtrack.
AWESOME INTERVIEW!! I never knew Morris was as cool af as he is! Dude, is down to earth, straight up, real deal, and as genuine as it gets. He seems like someone that isnt swayed by the fame, money, or lights and all that, and wouldnt ever lose his integrity...he's gonna be him....that's whats up.
I always been a fan of Morris day ever since the beginning . He was one of my main influences coming up as a kid and I started playing guitars and basses and was in a metal band back in the 90s and here I am 30 years later and still playing my bass . It's pretty cool that someone from a whole different genre of music can influence a metal head like myself . I seen purple rain a million fuckin times and I can go word for word on that whole movie

I think this is the best Prince Related Interview I have ever seen. Truthful, not gushy, seems very keeping-it-real vibe.. Thank you
Yup
WHY is this man still FINE AS WINE after all this time?!? Lort hammercy! So smooth & intelligent. This was a very informative & interesting interview. Thank you! Took me right back to Middle school!❤
I was delighted to see him in
an interview a few years ago and realized what a well rounded individual he is. I wanna go on a date with a man like him. Easy to talk and listen to
Me too! What a great guy & so talented!
Him and Jerome still bust out “the dance” during jungle love. They both still got moves.
To be fair for everyone bitching about this being a prince interview, Morris literally titled his book “ a princely life” LOL there is no conversation about Prince without Morris Day and no conversation about Morris without Prince. End of story.
I second this,
Real talk.
True!
Prince is the reason Morris is known and he would say that.
Morris Day Mr Sagittarius ♐... Always the truth teller
Morris day is music royalty and I grew up listening to this guy..one of the coolest brothas alive...love this guy
Joseph Chambers u ain’t lying, he cool 😎✌️
COOLEST FRONT MAN EVER!!!!!!
Joseph Chambers man but he does act so jackass.
You ain't got to go home but u got to get the hell out of here😀
He seems truthful, sincere and very real.
Morris Day is a good storyteller and very entertaining to listen too, good sense of humor and down to earth
First time I heard a person say 'Clout' was by Morris Day in Graffiti Bridge. This man is everything.
Morris Day..., the original king of swag.
*oddmodd* I wouldn't say "original".
I love how Morris has obviously been hurt by Prince, but Morris still speaks so very highly of Prince.
Morris became too reliant on Prince. Prince gave him his start which should have been enough. I mean look at Jam and Lewis--they knew what time it was
@@TRACEWORLD2 Great point!
Wow that was mean
Not just anyone can post what you posted. Cool Post.!!!

One of my favourite interviews ever. Another music industry / artist history journalistic gem.
This is by far one of the best interviews I’ve seen on VladTV. Morris Day has a great personality. And is very engaging. 👏🏾👏🏾
I love Morris Day! It’s refreshing seeing he really is a classy guy. Loved the interview Morris.
Both "Prince" and "Michael Jackson" were so great, because they were shrewd and perfectionist!
I've seen Morris Day & The Time performed live in Sacramento. One of the best shows ive ever seen! GREAT interview!
I just wish Morris Day saw a better financial windfall, sounds like he could have been treated financially better.
Facts💯💯💯
Prince definitely had a cut throat side to him.
You could buy his book if you’re honestly worried about it. That is sort of why he did this interview.
True but if he saw that Windfall back then during his drug use he probably would have been dead Prince ironically may have done him a favor
Exactly my thought! He deserved better.
Morris Day seems like a pretty cool guy. Honest, articulate and you can tell he really enjoyed the times he had with Prince .
Morris Day did an amazing job acting in Purple Rain in my opinion. He was definitely a natural. Very talented.
Real talk. I'm gonna take it further and say he stole chunks of the movie
Well he was playing himself so it couldn't have been that difficult for him to get into a character all his own
@@DeTriniJam there was still a script he had to follow. It's not like he wrote his lines.
Great interview. Morris seems very down to earth and rather likeable.
Who would have thought that Morris Day was so articulate and down to earth? Great interview.
Why wouldn't he be articulate? Smh
@@FeliciaQueen17 Because he created a professional persona that is comically vain and shallow, which doesn’t exactly lead one to naturally suspect that that he is so articulate and thoughtful. So it could be seen as surprising that he is thoughtful and articulate, which he clearly is and is a compliment to him. Don’t be so quick to be offended.

Morris Day what a class act purple rain the movie wouldn't have been as great as it was without Morris Day and the Time and that's a fact love his music and his style he's a bad motha no doubt.
Please the movie was totally about the music. None of them could really act except the "father" role. That movie would have done fine with Morris, it was ALL about the music.
Always interesting to hear the "inner workings" of the entertainment industry. Morris Day appears to be down-to-earth and real. Awesome.
Always and forever that one
“The Bird” is the most underrated songs of all time.
Great interview . Morris looks the same and still singing 😍 just awesome!
All my respect and admiration to Mr. Morris Days. I can tell by this interview how humble the man is. All he had for Prince during this interview was good complementing words. Thank you for all that great music from the good old days.

The Time is a natural treasure. I love them.
It's great that Prince's people are keeping his memory alive 🙏🏽🙏🏽👑👑
The Time is an example of "everything happens as it should" Jam & Lewis fired (freed) become the greatest producers of all time, Jesse Johnson had a stellar solo career, Morris Day solo career and acting, Monte & Jellybean became great producers among other things, Jerome did some acting, contributed to The Time' s stage presence as well as production things but image for a moment if they took the lesser road and complained about everything where would they be???
Morris sounds like such a down to earth, level headed cat. Most drummers are cool people. He brought so much to the Purple Rain movie. He was so funny. Lots of personality.
The movie wouldn't have been the same without Morris!

When he said he was cool (back in the day) ....he did not lie! his energy came off very enlightened. thankful, happy, humble, and laid back.
Right!!
He wouldn't allow him to do much, so
We love Prince, but can we get a bit more of a Morris Day interview?
Facts
I totally agree, i do like prince. But, i am a fan of Morris Day as well and was hoping to hear more about him
@@Oxygen257:
This interview was about him and Prince, since Prince practically started Morris Day's career. He still has a nice voice---I grew up liking the Time just as much as Prince, and he was the funniest thing in Purple Rain, for real. And he was a sharp dresser, too. Cool to see that he's still around and performing. I had no idea he knew Prince before he was famous, so that's something new I learned.
MoonLightOnWater AGREED. Damn, MD had a couple of really good solo albums the interviewer had no real clue of.
Would of been a much shorter interview
LMAO I can't even be mad since you put it that way. Understood bro.
Morris Day is a class act. This is one of the coolest, smoothest brothers in the industry. A real Legend.
This is a true legend with or without Prince. I know Prince created this band but, they had their own style. Just cool and classic. He brought something out of them. The Time has some classic timeless albums
Only 3 or 4 but they are all priceless!!

Morris Day is impressive! He deserved better compensation for his efforts.
No matter what went with on, he in this video did not trash Prince.
Best interview ever! So humble, and I’m anxious to buy his book. Will always be one of my most favorite artists.
Great book. I finished it in one day. Highly recommend it. I’ve had Prince, The Time, Vanity 6 and Sheila E playing nonstop on my IPhone since.

Wow Morris is very humble and very relatable! Thank you for his interview
It's good to hear and see Morris healthy and well.🙏🏽❤️
I got into Prince because of the Time. Prince always said that the time was always just him and Morris. That's why he objected to them using the name later. He was a dick, but he had his reasons. I don't understand how you could be religious yet treat your friends like dirt.
Cruel and claim Christian.. hmmm sounds about right!
Cruel and claim Christian.. hmmm sounds about right!
Totally agree...He talked about the industry treating him like a slave but yet does the same thing to his so-called friends which helped him make his money.
H~
Goes hand in hand.
That's the difference between just religion and a real relationship God .
MORRIS IS TALKING ABOUT HIS BOOK AND HIS LATE FRIEND PRINCE. DONT WORRY MORRIS WILL HAVE HIS TIME!
I am glad Morris Day got his opportunity to tell his side of the Prince & Morris story. I never knew how crappy Prince had dealt Morris until now.
Morris looks fantastic and more handsome than ever. 💕💕💕
Morris Day a Legend . Rock the hell out of the concerts I must say it was a great to see Morris & prince @ Coachella Fest.. totally Legends
Now this is a better interview. I'm glad Morris mentioned Andre Cymone, Jimmy Jam, Terry Lewis, Alexander O'Neal, St. Paul, etc. The Minneapolis sound goes well beyond Prince, there were so many others who was part of their family.
This dude was one hell of a entertainer
Great interview! Morris, very humble. Enjoyed it from beginning to end. Thanks Morris Daye!

I listen to this interview, and he is far from the role he masterfully portrayed in the movie "Purple Rain"...I can't say enough about him, articulate and honest....thankyou for sharing your art with all of us!
.. What a nice guy, seems really down to earth and good people.
BIG UP MORRIS DAY!!! What a gracious dude!
Because Prince didn’t do interviews, Morris was doing all of the David Letterman late night talk shows for Purple Rain PR. He was as famous as Prince as far as pop culture for that short time. Plus, he and Jerome stole the movie, IMO.
I agree! Without Morris and Jerome's comedic timing, the only things that would have made Purple Rain watchable, were the musical performances.
Purple Rain wasn't a movie about Prince. It was a buddy movie detailing the adventures of Morris Day and Jerome Benton
The movie was hot because of the music.
Morris and Jerrome only stole the movie for people who aren't into music.
onesong2001 Not true.
