His portrayal of Sipowicz is one of the greatest achievements in TV history. What an outstanding actor! NYPD Blue is the greatest TV series of all time.
I`ve just started watching NYPD Blue from the start again, on season 4 now and after not watching it for many years I now totally appreciate just how good it was, Dennis Franz`s acting is stellar! To watch the character develop into what he was when it ended is a fascinating journey...
The Heroes & Icons cable network (H&I) runs 4 episodes Mon-Fri starting at midnite. Using my DVR I've been able to record them all and then watch at my convenience with some great binge watching. I've been able to watch all 12 years of the show in 3 and a half months. Probably my favorite series of all time.
One of the better - and most enjoyable - interviews I’ve seen. I loved that Dennis said, of Vietnam: “... I’m not sure about course, but I’d like to see the country in peacetime. It’s an enchanting, beautiful country.” I was living in VN at the time of this interview, and I’m so pleased he said that. He’s a mensch.
Underrated actor IMO I know he got well deserved praise NYPD Blue, but I believe he’s overlooked overall. You guys should check out American Buffalo amazing performance.
Even as a kid I was night owl, and I spent many a wee hour with Tom watching him have conversation with interesting people. I think he was a fantastic interviewer and had a infectious horse laugh, that always made me smile. Seems like his talents were underrated. My teenage eyes saw Tom as a really really old guy and the show’s set-up seemed kinda borning - Not exactly like Johnny…. But I more often than not found myself becoming engrossed in the show, getting a real-life take on the luminaries of the day. If you never saw it, I think you might like viewing some Snyder on UA-cam - you’ll probably see what I mean.
Wish I appreciated him more before he retired. I’m currently binging Hill Street Blues on Hulu and I can’t wait until Buntz enters the show. After that, I plan to start NYPD Blue!
Man lucky for you! I watched it starting in 94, second season and followed it loyally every week as it aired til the last episode. And I've watched it several times since then online. Sipowicz is in my Top 3 Favorite Characters Ever and Franz played him beautifully. Terrific cop show and great drama. When you get to the final couple of seasons, you'll notice that the nudity and profanity ramps up in order to compete with networks and shows like FX and The Shield and Rescue Me.
@@Euripides_Panz This interview with Dennis was very enjoyable. Tom Snyder was one of the best interviewers of all time. Strictly no comparison with the late night "comedians" now ruining late night tv.
I didn't know about Dennis Franz service in Vietnam..just makes me admire the man even more. Nobody could have ever played Andy Sipowicz other than Dennis. He IS Sipowicz!
Watched NYPD blue when it first aired on British TV, never seen anything as good before or after, re watching on Disney after 29 years and still a great watch.
Sounds to me the alcoholic caller was seeking justification for his fall-offs from the trials of a tv character. And he kind of got it, by proxy, from Dennis.
give me Tom Snyder & Dennis Franz.... im in for a delightful 1/2 hr
Man, I thought I was weird...and maybe I am...but I'm a better man than I was before I watched this.
Delightful.
Why can’t anyone do interviews like this anymore on TV? What a fantastic interview and conversation. I’m a huge fan of both gentlemen.

So interesting to hear Dennis. He is very articulate, humble, forthright, and down to earth. Love NYPD Blue!
Dennis Franz seems like such a kind person.
Enjoyed NYPD Blue for many years!
He really is a nice human being.
Dennis Franz is one of the best actors to walk the planet

I miss Tom his laugh was contagious and he made me laugh so much. What a special person.
What a great interviewer he ask the right questions and let the guest talk too many talk show hosts just talk too much.
One of the best interviewers ever..
Yes he is. Better than most of the others that get most of the praise. Tom Snyder always delivered sincere & quality television.
Tom Snyder was really at his best here. It also helps to have a great guest like Dennis Franz.
Great interview and a great human being...
Great interview. Franz is an honorable and decent man. Would like to see more of him.
NYPD Blue in my opinion still the best show ever made for TV...
Underrated actor IMO I know he got well deserved praise NYPD Blue, but I believe he’s overlooked overall. You guys should check out American Buffalo amazing performance.
I love Andy Sipowicz, I’m currently enjoying season 12, I’m almost finished. Dennis Franz is man❤

A great actor & a great person it seems. NYPD Blue was one of the best shows on TV, and my favorite.
I love Dennis Franz! ❤❤❤
We just started watching NYPD BLUE again for the 1st time in about a decade. Franz is a Brother Vet and seems to be a good guy.
I don't think any character in television was ever as complex as the Andy Spiowitz character on NYPD Blue.
Wish I appreciated him more before he retired. I’m currently binging Hill Street Blues on Hulu and I can’t wait until Buntz enters the show. After that, I plan to start NYPD Blue!
A great actor and a class act
Funny I just started watching nypd blue last week and this video pops up
Among the, if not the, best show every on television.
Just discover Dick Cavett, Johnny Carson, and Tom Synder, too?

And he was terrific in Diehard 2 !
Playing same character .....but nobody does it better so why not ?

Dennis, you’re the best! Know that!
God bless you Sir

Dennis is the best . My favorite cop show NYPD BLUE was the Best ever . Dennis is an amazing actor . I watch NYPD Blue over and over
He played a detective in Dressed To Kill some 13 years before NYPD blue .
Yeah he ate up that role, great ensemble too
Never gonna see interviews like this again....
Such a great actor .Andy was a Stand Up Guy. Life is getting back up.
Watched NYPD blue when it first aired on British TV, never seen anything as good before or after, re watching on Disney after 29 years and still a great watch.
What a class act. Asks a total stranger how's he doing with his addiction, and meant it. Wow.
Miss seeing Dennis Franz on TV. He was born to play the everyman cop.
Pretty cool guy.
NYPD GREAT SHOW AND ANDY MADE IT.
Mr Franz was both 82nd and 101st? New one on me. Never heard of that with him - or anyone else… anyone have any info?
...too soon old, too late smart...
That is so very true. This from a 63yo guy who is yet to get smart.
Sounds to me the alcoholic caller was seeking justification for his fall-offs from the trials of a tv character. And he kind of got it, by proxy, from Dennis.
Is there any way we can resurrect Tom Snyder
