I always say if you can’t make tofu taste good, then you really don’t know how to cook. It’s ok to not like it, but not liking it and not being able to cook it are two diff things
In Indonesian cooking we have 'bacem' (buh-chehm), which is the technique of braising (in coconut water, spices, and palm sugar) THEN frying, for tofu and tempeh! These juicy, sweet, and umami blocks, are great with some raw bird's eye chili 😋
Would love to see some recipes and taste tests with soy curls. Thanks for the time and effort you put into this video. You’ve got meals and snacks for DAYS now!
Wow! I truly appreciate all the effort you put into this video. I know that was a lot of work. Each and every method looks fantastic!! I remember, I actually sold myself on silken tofu with chocolate mousse probably 15 years ago!
Thanks so much for all your efforts making this tofu-cooking-options video. I learned a thing or two, and I’ve been a tofu-loving vegan for 11 years. Can’t wait to try them.👏🤩
Dear Edgy - I have been a fan of yours from the beginning! Your impressively well organized, tofu techniques is genius! I'm going to try them all - can't wait! Your Richmond, California Fan - Judy
Hello beautiful Candace, as usual you have gone above and beyond in the interests of your viewers make great choices. I thought I would let you know, I've asked my library here in Melbourne Australia to order your new cookbook and they are. I can't wait to have this book in my hot little hands. Thank you for everything you do.
This was fantastic! the whole thing! I love doing deep fried as a base for another dish... like if I was to deep fry without breading it almost always goes right into a sticky sauce like a sweet & sour, orange sauce, or general tso type thing. But I do agreee that breaded deep fry on its own is super good especially when frozen like you said!
I absolutely love seeing all of these different methods for cooking tofu! I never get tired of seeing methods for cooking tofu, so if you have any more, I wouls love to see videos for them. I usually marinate, lightly coat in cornstarch, and either air fry or bake. While I love those methods, I'm going to try some of the ways you showed in this video (like freezing and then boiling for soups). Love your videos...thanks!
Thank you for this!! Trying to get my partner to go more veggie...he grew up with the meat-must-be-the-centre-piece mentality, so having better cooking options for non meat really helps ❤ 3:303:32
a few years ago I found this technique where you sandwich tofu cubes between paper towels & microwaved them. & then, you simply baked em. OMG! this resulted in the CRISPIEST tofu nuggs EVER! Although using all those paper towels was a waste, getting that texture without the fuss of dredging was amazing! Unfortunately, I can't remember the timings so if anybody's familiiar with it, I'd appreciate a refresher.
A local restaurant in my area makes tofu thai peanut bowl. Put baby greens in a bowl, add jasmine rice, sliced carrot (raw), sliced cucumber, mung bean sprouts, cilantro, sesame seeds and Thai peanut sauce, add blackened tofu on the top. I have started making it at home. I blacken my tofu with San J Tamari sauce. I just marinate it for a few minutes then cook it in my cast iron fry pan. I just use a bottled Thai peanut sauce to dress the salad. It is really good.
I eat tofu, but not as a meat substitute, but cos it's nice n cheap. I eat meat. My favorite is soy, rice wine garlic ginger marinade, flour then egg dip, followed by either sesame seeds or bread coating before frying. 2nd fav is cubed, browned and added to coconut curry sauce
My default tofu is to cube, pat dry, wet again with soy sauce, then toss in corn starch, air fry, then add to a stir fry or a sauce after it's crispy on the outside. Sometimes I slice it thinner, skip the corn starch, and just sprinkle with some seasoning and air fry until desired firmness. Great for a wrap or sandwich that way. I don't ever bother pressing or marinating. And don't forget a good tofu scramble burrito with mushrooms and tomatoes!
Thank you for trying this for us! Being so far away and actually being on the hesitant side regarding tofu, do you think you could run a test with people just like me and make them rank your top 3 ways? Just an idea, but I was told by so many tofu-loving people how you just have to prepare them like this or that and in the end I still did not like it. So in short: Which way is delicious for those of us who normally DON'T like tofu?
thank you! I would say the freezing, marinating, breading and frying technique...if you have time for that! But definitely bread, it add an amazing crunchiness to it.
Thank you that was very helpful once I marinated it in soy sauce with veggie broth garlic ginger and sesame seed oil then had my husband smoke it on the grill with Hickory chips it was amazing I ate the whole thing 😋
@@EdgyVeg I’ve been tried it years ago lol. I love that future sausage. To me, it was the best I ever had. Don’t get me wrong, but it was better than the beyond sausages lol.
i am so curious about freezing it! do you freeze it in the package it comes in, then thaw and slice? or press the water out, cut into cubes, then freeze?amazing video i cant imagine how long this took!!
I said THANK GOD out loud bc I used to get “homestyle bean curd” from this Chinese restaurant but there was um.. bugs in it so I have to do it myself now
I double freeze and thaw and then strain out the liquid, marinate in vegan chicken broth, then bread abd airfry with a little oil sprayed on top. I make it into a spicy Mc"chiken"
I have issues with texture but I've learned to eat tofu some ways and I've gotten some more inspo from this! I still really don't like the texture of frozen tofu tho so if anyone else has texture issues maybe don't try that one first
My advice is slice tofu thinner put it on the pan for a while than ad all seasoning. It will get kinda dry and than add soy sauce and some water and it will absorb all taste from spices. Pls try that
That’s funny how western people act as if they know everything about tofu but their tofu still tastes bland and terrible even after doing a ton of methods that are actually unnecessary. I see why western food always tastes bland and flavorless. That’s because of the way you cook. I notice you guys always put seasoning on the frying pan when you cook it. It’s not gonna absorb the flavor very well. The best way to make your tofu flavorful is marinating it first before you cook it and let it rest for 30 minutes to an hour. Or, you can put the seasoning right when you cook it but add a little water and let it simmer until the water is completely dissolved.
@@dailywwin lol that's what I'm talking about that's a complete wast of time. YOu stick to your traditions. I work fine with my own method it's much quicker and works great. BTW maybe read my commet if are going to repeat what I said to me...
Prople, listen to me! 🙂 Season your tofu at least one hour before you cook it. I add garlic powder, turmeric, paprika, freshly ground 5 pepper mixture, some thyme or any other herbs of your preference, and some olive oil. Let it marinate for at least one hour, like I said, but if you really want the most delicious tofu, just leave it in the fridge for one or two days. Then you can pan fry it, bread it, bake it in the oven, etc. It NEVER fails. Much, MUCH better than marinating it in soy, no question! You're welcome! 😋
My favourite way to eat tofu is by making it into “cheese” either feta style or ricotta style. Otherwise I like marinating it in teeny cubes and baking it because I actually like the hard chewy texture added into a a coconut cauliflower squash curry. It has to be teeny cubes though, or it’s too rubbery.
The only thing i feel sad about.. is that I can't try every (healthy) vegan recipe in the world... Good ones ofcourse..but then i dunno which ones are good and which ones Just aren't
For lazy vegan tofu lovers try my way. Dry fry or with a little olive oil in a fry pan. Then chuck it between two pieces of vegan buttered bread and add your favourite sauce such as BBQ. Also instead of sauce, sprinkle with nooch, dry basil and a little salt. Easy peasy.

I love tofu. Simply.
(Tofu isn't raw. It's made of soy milk which is very boiled. Just in case it scared anyone to hear about eating it "raw".)
no need to be worried about eating it raw at all!
They meant that tofu raw doesn't exist because it's already cooked when we buy it!
My favorite is to slice thin, marinade in bbq sauce, then grill it on like a panini press or george foreman grill. Soooo good.
