To me, and I presume most of you would agree, there is nothing really amazing about an Iowa, but also nothing really bad. It’s just alright in every way, which makes it good.
My first American battleship was Kansas. Early access. I was more into destroyers and cruisers because the low tier battleships are just painfully slow. Pre buff Kansas was....well you remember. But it was what I had so when I needed to play a battleship for missions Kansas was what I used. Minnesota I got through during a ranked season, it was tier8/9 and again I did not have many ships at that level. Thus the very first tier 10 ship in my port was Vermont. After that I went back to the New York which I got in some Christmas event with a camo and bonus and annoying Santa commander. Then I hit New Mexico with no bonus attached. Then Colorado, which was.....yea. But I only had to do it once. When I got the NC I had the King Of The Sea camo they gave away which had the bonus and it was AMAZING. So much better than Colorado. Iowa is even better. But you truly appreciate Iowa and Montana, you really need to suffer through that New York to North Carolina grind.

If you enjoy the Iowa, I would recommend the Alsace, as she plays quite similarly to the Iowa.

Iowa was my fav ship in the US BB line. I hated NC and thought Montana was okay but Iowa surpassed my expectations.
How different is it from the NC?

@@ryanstuckey8677 aren’t they both 406? Speed was never an issue with the NC and yeah I guess the better armour can be nice but it’s still the weak American armour that’s easy to citadel and pen. The floaty shells that take ages to arrive on target are what’s killing it for me
@@hknova683 they are both 406 but the NC is MK6 while iowa is 406 MK7 which has a better velocity, still floaty but less floaty than NC. love both ships. in regards to getting citadel, this line is the best line for learning BB's as it teaches you to angle, IMO ships should all be like that, make a mistake get punished hard.

Ive been playing for 5 months and ive only managed to kraken with dreadnought and gneisenau so far. Still not doing great above tier 7
I recently got the Montana but I kept Iowa because it was fun, but mostly for the AL New Jersey skin

I blasted past the Iowa on my way to the Montana because I had the Missouri. Big mistake. I recently repurchased the Iowa. What a great ship. Along with thw Wisconsin and Missouri, its now my go to boat

Just got it during the Wisconsin dockyard. Made it all the way to Montana and they are all very awesome with Iowa being a standout. Wisconsin has just been great too, an American Bourgogne. Monty? Does exactly what it should. Very pleased with this line overall.

I had the Iowa. Once I got the Wisconsin, I no longer had need for the Iowa.
Agreed. Compared to Wisconsin its really shit and I dont care if its tier 10 vs 9 cos mostly you will end up with tier 10+ MM anyway.

And reliable accuracy, damage, aps, everything is gold. Built in secondaries cause why not since accuracy mod is on 6th slot… men… playing anything else feels awfull. Japanese bbs too, mostly yamato. Compared, german or british didn’t aged well as their gimmick got nerf to favor newer lines 😑
This settles it. Going to buy Montana today. Have already earned the XP with Iowa…. Just needed a reason to finish the line. Thanks for the valuable insight!!!!

If you're just trying to grind out XP to level up, Coop or Operations are not bad options.
NC definitely feels pain when facing higher tiers, and the guns take a lot of getting used to. T8 ranked is a good option when available.

I literally just skipped 2 tiers to get the NC en route to Iowa. It is a challenge for me, typically cruiser/destroyer player. It’ll be a grind for me I know.
Iowa is one of those ships I will always have in my port and a commander permanently assigned to her.
I love my Iowa but you do have to watch out about showing broadside. My first devastating strike was when I first took out my North Carolina into a tier 10 battle. I saw an Iowa broadside to me at about 15K and fired a full broadside. I hit with 6 shells with 4 of them being citadels. The Iowa went down screaming that I was cheating with an illegal mod. The only mod that I sometimes run is Aslains.
Iowa is my personal favorite BB too!!!
And if you don't want to suffer thru the Colorado then you can buy the Xuan Wu Pan Asain copy pasta for doubloons. You can then figure out for yourself if its worth the grind. Yeah, its costing you dubs but it may save you time.
Edit: Keep in mind that you won't have access to the Plot Mod and the Halsey commander.
Put one of the Doe brothers on board and it really takes Iowa to the next level.

I skipped it for the Montana and back in the day when I played the Pommern, I had a lot encounters with the Iowa as enemy and it lost every f*cking time. So I decided: "Nope, not gonna get such a weak ship"
Man, my experience couldn’t be more opposite. Got Montana real quick because so many great games in Iowa, and Pommern looked “meh” because they were one of the German BBs you could actually citadel. Finally got Pommern and she is a port queen.
@@xPureNRG007x Unfortunately Pommern doesn't fit in the current meta anymore and since I got my Meckle, I can't get back to "shotgun-style" main guns.
However, there is no reason for me to get the Iowa.

@@SofaKingA Kinda. Got almost 1000 games with her. But took me over 800 games to master her brawling/secondary skills and make it work in the current meta.
nah the iowa was not something i enjoyed much. she is decently fast but the low calibre guns constantly ricocheting off of cruisers and battleships at a slight angle and the HORRENDOUSLY slow shells make it so if you use your massive range even a slow battleship can dodge your fire. Montana was way different though the extra 3 guns make up for these faults because the broadside weight it just ridiculous.
I think the real problem here is the uptiers. Like yeah the Montana is better and when you face that think along with other tier 10s. Especially cruisers, it’s not fun. But play a couple of matches and you get those tier 9 games or maybe rank tier 9. It’s fun.
guess someone should tell you that in the game as in real life had they been built the montana has the exact same guns as iowa
@@ryanstuckey8677 which if you read what I said I already know but the iowa has 4 turrets with 3 guns each resulting in a massive broadside weight making up for the issues of the iowa.
I think Iowa is a paper tiger, you can burn her right down. I recently burned 2 Iowa's in one game. When I want to set fires I look for Iowa. She does have good guns but she is a matchbox.

I'm still looking for a decent tier 9 BB which is just stacked with hot garbage, its so bad that I'm OK with blowing 300k free xp to skip them all but Iowa was one worth the grind for Monty.

Honestly you might excel in Iowa. That Gorizia style of mobility and hard hitting works well with Iowa.
I've always said I prefer the Iowa over the Monty. Feels nicer to use than Monty. Whisky being a T10 Iowa with improvements LOVE IT.

Iowa always feels like such a shotgun to me, NC and Montana felt great but Iowa just wouldn’t hit anything for me
It has been the opposite for me, which is odd. One thing may be the aiming point. Iowa having a tighter dispersion means if the aim is off all your shells miss, whereas with the other two RNG will still get you hits. I will have to do some training mode to see if that is my NC issue.

I would not consider the North Carolina as a strong ship 😭. I swear 14/15 games I am the only T8 against all T10 and get absolutely clapped. Sure when I am top tier it slaps, but that is so rare compared to being up tiered.
I had it and sold it. I guess my style of play (mostly inept)😂 couldn't make it work.
Why haven't I acquired her? Because I already have Yamato! And I'd rather try the hybrid line first
NC has very soft sides. Easy citadel's when broadside.
What? I am mad in love with the IOWA but it def does NOT stand out, esp not for t9.
I mean, she is a good Battlecruiser but not a good Battleship.
Seriously tho, when I operate Iowa, she’s actually does Battlecruiser things better than most Battlecruisers. But when it comes on a brawling like an actual Battleships, she’s falling apart. Thanks to her weak deck of 38mm. A Deck that conveniently vulnerable to German >203 HEs and non IFHE British BBs? She is fast and agile, but not suite well with Battleship roles. She was at this state for quite sometimes now, because US BBs aren’t design to be a close quarters, they were more range type like IJNs. Back then in CBT, that was the standard play for BBs. Only get close in the later matches. The meta changed a lot after CBTs. Not to mentioned even her 406s with improved damage due to Super Heavy Shells doesn’t seems appealing anymore. But one thing that I still likes Iowa is how she can clapped Cruisers. Like somewhat she was intended design to do Battling a Cruiser. Wisconsin also have similar issue but still be a brawler if she feels like it. Missouri is better thanks to her Credit Farming ability. Iowa was in the worst amongs Iowa Class right now. We just gotta see what New Jersey will brings to the table, which I bet she will knock Iowa out of the park. Iowa doesn’t have anything to bring into the table in the current meta.
The only reason why I still love her is because 1) She is a Historical ship that actually exist. 2) She performs well as a Battlecruiser, thanks to better protection than BCs (also she does have Soviet Turret traverse if you make a built out of it. Which you should.). Means you can reposition and reengage anytime due to your 34 knots speed. Tbh, I still prefer Iowa to any Battlecruisers, because of that 32mm of plating.

I can understand you, I have the same feeling for other ships. Like Kansas and MiniSoda I really liked those ships but everyone hated them. Same applies to Zao, I love it and think it's borderline broken. I love Iowa and Monty hate Ohio. Some times ships just work for people while others don't.
It took a couple of terrible uptier games to finally understand what the Iowa is capable. I think what really makes it terrible is when you face a tier 10 cruiser. They show broadside, but rng means you don’t bast them, and then they farm you down with their he. Very miserable experience even if it’s rare to happen
I didn't like the Iowa either, which was disappointing after I liked the NC a lot. What's really strange is, that I love the Missouri. They are basically identical. But for some reason I click much better with the legendary unique ship.
I prefer the NC over the Iowa. I mean yeah, the shells are slower, she's slower, her armor is worse, but I tend to have better performance with the NC.

They only seem to put hull numbers on Premium ships, same with names for other countries ships.
Quite a bit misinformation here. In today's WoWs, Iowa is a little lack luster. Speed is decent. With speed fully built you have 34knts.with many ship lines and special ships capable to going 35 some going 40+ is mid of it's pack. Iowa's armor is standard. 32mm extremities, 38mm mid section with a large profile makes it very susceptible to heavy cruiser HE and large superstructure makes its very farmable. The side armor protects the citadel from cruisers as do most battleships but vulnerable to large caliber weapons. It's about the middle of the pack. It's guns are decent. Built into accuracy you have some good guns not the best or most consistent guns but decent enough but not wonky dispersion. The shells are slow makes them relative easy to dodge and with only 9 shells and not very tight grouping. Means it easy to miss shots. I'm not saying the Iowa is a bad ship. Many of the ships that excell against her stats trade something else for it. But she combines everything into a jack of all trades. It's not AS good as SLM put it. It's just an average boat and does boat thing. Good for people who like boats.
Iowa seems to have such soft sides these days, so people playing them hang around way too far back sniping and hitting nothing.

I would reccommend IJN BB for beginner rather than US BB cauz 2 thing horrible shell speed and Colorado, US BB is ok as 2nd or third line but not as the first line for sure
I'd never recommend USN BBs. That line is absolute hell on Earth. There isn't a single good ship in the entire line. But not only that, there isn't a single fun ship. You are just gonna hate yourself for even picking that line. Pick anything else. I actually recommend german BBs. Even though they've fallen quite a bit at the top tiers, their low-mid tiers are all top quality.

@@reinchans Zero redeeming qualities..... and yet, consistently top picks for ranked battles. Low tiers have best in class armor, good maneuverability and good guns. Gneisenau has good armor, is one of the fastest and most maneuverable BBs in the game and has torps. Bismarck gets long range hydro. Only FdG and Preussen....but most high tier tech tree BBs are sup bar compared to the pay2win options.

IJN and Soviet BB could easily puch right through it faceing british and French BB , HE spam it to death , only struggle on is lowtier Italian BB , Gneisanau ? look what you're faceing 16" and high damage british HE Maneuver could do somuch when you've constantly underfire it useless for BB with large stuperstructure and british BC could chase you down with ease Bismarck is nothing compared to what is faceing init's tier IJN have Amagi with 10 16" gun US got NC with super heavy AP and good HE same with British even it's lowest on both BB and BC line Frech and soviet got great bow tanking BB and italian starting to have a great match with it's SAP , I've played BB on every single nation and i alway's rank German BB as lowest both fun and quality that's why i dare to said is pure garbage and overhype so much like brawl ? British BC could also deliver that without getting sunk after first kill want good armor ? sovet BB have that , want comforable playstyle ? Italian BB from Tier 8-10 could also deliver that want annoying af play style ? french BB and BC could deliver that What German have beside long range hydro that just 2 km longer and secondary ? when todays match is mostly midrange and long range only German BB i found amusing is Mecklenberg which is not Tech tree BB but again compare to ship like lauria or bougornge it's still mid at best
@@reinchans Low tier cruisers have awful DPM to reliably kill any BB consistently. Even IJN BB, with zero armor and actually taking damage, are hard to kill with HE spammers. German BBs have godly levels of armor at those tiers, sometimes with 150mm armored bows.
But there is only one truly awful BB line(s), and that is the USN. There is not a single good ship in the entire line.
I used to calculate the chances if defeat on the amount of Iowas in a team. The team with more Iowas would always lose. I never got a prediction wrong with this rule. Iowa is by a good margin objectively the worst tier IX BB across all metrics and skill levels. Pick a stat: WR, Avr Dmg, Kills per battle etc. Iowa is at the bottom, no matter if its among 90% or the top 1% of the players.
That says more about the players playing Iowa than about Iowa itself.
Anyway, lowest survival rate? Prinz Rupperecht. Lowest potential damage? Tsurugi. Lowest kill per game? Either Iwami B or Izumo, depending if you count clones.
Iowa is bottom in some other metrics, but the claim that she's rock bottom in all meaningful metric is not true. And if you filter by recent stats (instead of all-time) she's no longer bottom in any category.
Another thing that should be mentioned is that the stats could well be skewed for Iowa. The American battleship line is a very popular first line for players to grind, so Iowa could well be the first BB for many players at her tier. Consequently WR, damage, kills, etc may be artificially lower due to the higher proportion of less experienced players.
The first part of your post is absolutely true, and has nothing to do with your erroneous conclusion. As already correctly pointed out, the real correlation is players. On the North American server the Iowa is one of, if not the most popular ships. They had the actual museum ships logged into multiple accounts so visitors could play the ship in battles. Many others are diehard Iowa players from their nursing home, enjoying blasting away at long range. This is why Iowa sits so low in global stats.
Doubt me? Sure you do, so to prove your last line wrong: pull up any decent to good player. Because of what I just described even an average player will rank high with their average Iowa games on the server.
@@xPureNRG007x My post contain the fact that the Iowa is at the bottom of every metric across ALL SKILL LEVELS. If you filter the top 50%, 25%, 10% or 1% of the players, it doesn't matter. Iowa is always at the bottom. It is a shitty ship after all.
