You know, I do have to wonder sometimes about PS2's weapon design- not the stats, but the animations. Who thought it would be a good idea to have the entire top/back of the weapon reciprocate when it's fired? Does nanite reconstruction replace teeth knocked out by your own gun? Ranting aside, I'm glad I saw this video. I'll have to have a look at this pop-gun in the VR.
I dont think its possible to knock your teeth out with the default armor set, seeing as you have armor around your entire face, and possibly something soft inside. Regardless, I could imagene it would be weird to have any stability with that weapon, seeing as you lean the weapon on your shoulder for accuracy
Love the video. These are all the things I've been telling my stream viewers for awhile, and I couldn't have possibly put it any better into words in a concise video. The addition of the graphs and screenshots displaying 20m/30m/etc. were great, and I like where you're going with the new website as well. When I find some time I need to turn my site into a full-fledged page instead of just a redirect also. Keep it up, you're the reason I can focus on my stream and send my viewers to you for YT :)
Oh man. Best of luck, mate. And thanks for the video. They're never a waste of time, and I always enjoy listening to you talk about things for some reason.
0:34 Wrel: aka the "cassette player"... Me: Why is it called the cassette player ?... *video answers with the reload animations* Wrel, your video editing is OP.
I was originally going to review all of the SMGs in a single go, but they were more different than I thought they would be. So I'm going to review the factional SMGs in groups, this was the first of that series.
Wrel, your videos solved 90% of my doubts about weapons. If there is a Wrel gun in-game for 700 SC, I'll gladly purchase and proceeds goes to you. You should get paid by SOE for your efforts really. Great job friend.
Mmm. What I was getting at was... Due to the longer short reload, you're at a disadvantage. If you extend the magazine, that means you have more flexibility with finding good situations where you can pull that short reload off. You 'always' want to go for the short reload, regardless of how you play, (unless that last bullet is going to finish your enemy off.) So extended mags just means more flexibility to compensate for that weakness.
I find this weapon works pretty well with the right attachments as a combat medic since a good medic is often on the front lines where everyone dies a lot
I feel this weapon could use an overall slight facelift, with a 775 RPM fire rate, 20% less bloom per shot, 2 second short reload, and still remain balanced. The "loud", flexible, skill based automatic infiltrator(usually) weapon of choice.
Glad you spent some time comparing to the automatic scout rifle which is my favorite infiltrator weapon. I'd ask for a scout rifle video and perhaps an extended comparison with the ns-7 pdw but it doesn't sound like you like them well enough? The soas-20 was pretty atrocious without compensator+foregrip for me. Part of it is the small clip size means that you really need to make shots count. I particular like it when I'm with a mass of friendly infantry and trading shots at medium+ range.
Oh my goodness, I was in that battle at snake ravine! I didn't think anything of it at first, but then I remembered there was a Vanu that was hacking and saw it mentioned in the chat in your video! It was confirmed when I saw my name CainSiscko in the chat! Wow if I only jumped down off the roof I could of met Wrel in a firefight. That was on Watterson, about 13 days ago of this post if I remember correctly. Love your vids!
Daddy wrel, i totally agree that thd recoil is controllable to begin with. However, the forgrip/compensator combo makes it a lazer beam. Very nice for ads players. Your build is grest for hio fire characters. I urge anyone looking to buy this gun to try both builds in the vr room and then preview the weapon buying the attachments suited for your playstlye.
I use the advanced lasersight with compensator and soft point ammo and no reflex sight, it is good for cqc and managing its recoil at rang (20-60 meters) i use it on the light assault and my infil when the Blitz is of no use or out ranged
Generation one SMGs were introduced when the game started, then the 2nd generation was added which have higher magazines and other little perks(i think is that have a bit less damage but a higher rate of fire) Sorry for late response...lol
I like the new graphic at the beginning with the overlay and combat going on in the background. I really should have bought this weapon the last time it was on sale. I think I'd enjoy using it.
Good review, Wrel! I got auraxium on the NS-7 a few months ago and it is my favorite weapon. In my opinion the low damage per magazine compared to a carbine for example is its major downside, not the dps within 20 meters. You have a hard time to kill heavies with it and thats the reason i wouldnt recommend it for heavies and medics (who have cqc ARs anyway). The best class to deal with that downside is the light assault because of its ability to dogde, get away and re-enter the fight...
I actually rock the Cyclone usually, and lately have been more than the PDW. No matter what I use, though, it's amazing to have a submachinegun that wants to be a carbine on the Infiltrator. Adds much more versatility and options to a previously 'extreme' range class.
One thing I got to say is yes only infiltrators should use SMGs as other classes generally have cqc variants of their default weapon type. But NC do not have a hip fire Carbine like the Jag and the VX6-7 so an SMG would be good for those who like to hip fire.
Also, cassette tapes could be used to store any data (video, music and less commonly documents and other data). A close relative to the cassette tape is the floppy disk, it's not a tape, but still a magnetized plastic which was used in pretty much the same way.
Have auraxium for this weapon and I love its midrange strength, especially when running in a squad so you cant really just run around and do what you want :) with adv laser sight I think this has about the best hipfire in the game, and I love to hipfire at range, its ver difficult for your enemies to hit you..
True, also i dont see the reason why NC gets a burstfire pistol before VS does. And the TR default repeater is just a fearsome machinegun of a pistol. Im surprised i dont die to it more often.
I love your channel because you really go into it, I prefer to learn from statistics and comparisons because then I have something to calculate and work with rather than, Oh it's good if you use it like this.
I am not sure if it going on the test server today (the 8th) but it may already be on there. But (I am sure you know this) the first minor patch is coming tomorrow (the 9th).
Right now on my infil I use this with Iron sights, suppressor, laser sights and softpoint ammo. It's a really great weapon and I would encourage everyone to at the very least try it out in the VR.
Oh right, forgot about the balance earlier. But their reasons were sound. Even without bullet drop, if someone with a carbine or LMG are engaging someone where a TR or NC weapon would experience drop, it's still sort of useless.
I couldn't agree more on the suppressor. Additionally, the extended mags have saved my rear many times. PDW is a great weapon, although I've found myself going back to using the NC's Blitz and Stalker lately just to get back to faction weapons.
Got this from the Elite Soldier Bundle way back when. Worth every penny. If you can aim and land a few headshots, you'll win any fight at close OR mid range.
If there was some transparency to the graph and surrounding effects it would work just fine. obviously not too transparent otherwise you'd struggle to see the lines, maybe change the color contrasts abit
It seems to be better at ranges that you probably wish you had a different weapon type in most cases, and if you are at a typical SMG range would want a different SMG. Another bit is that at longer ranges at least the VS would have to decide if they want to deal with bullet drop.
the NS-7 PDW ended up being a much better smg for me as even in close range fights i can get better head hits than the other smgs and with the small ammo clip it helps me improve my burst control, as first i did used the extended ammo but after awhile when i got more used to the gun, i noticed most of the time had more then 10 ammo left before i reload, so i took if off for the laser sight
after the fast reload. It al so get most out of the hipfire accuracy that is, as you said, the best in the game. I love to fly over the heads of enemies as standard reaction when i encounter an enemy and fireing at him while flying. Most of the people arent used to it and waste all their bullets tring to track me while i can stay on target and get headshots because im above my enemy. Thats why i think that light assault is the class which makes the NS-7 shine the most.
nice and usefull vid like always. i don't see people not liking it, hot killed many time by this gsmg ( mostly used by other infiltrator, have to use it more thought, using my blitz ( but prefer cyclone maybe for the dmg). still a good gun at range like you say.
I think a lot of the criticisms of the ns-7 are totally valid, but for me, the advantages make it my favorite weapon in the game (though I only play NC right now). I use it almost exclusively when playing infiltrator, and break it out some times for the light assault as well. I don't have great aim, but the ns-7 is so controllable that I feel it helps make up for it.
My other channel is /CasualWrel I used to own /WrelPlays, but then I deleted the channel so that I could re-create it as a branch from this one... which was evidently a bad idea, as UA-cam won't release the username. So my second channel /CasualWrel is going to be for Let's Plays and such.
Lol it's funny that you did this video today because I just finished the PDW part of a new video I'm working on. I think our opinion is pretty much the same although in my video It's probably gonna sound like I'm hating on it a tad. But anyways, great video as always you handsome devil!
So, I have 3 automatic weapons for my infiltraitor: Farmistice, NS7-PDW, and SOAS-20. Farmistice, or Armistice actually, is for getting in people's faces and sending them back to the spawn room SOAS is for outdoor, ranged combat when I don't feel like pulling my Vandal or KSR. NS-7 PDW is for both of these things. It's the jack of all trades.
+Aidan A But you have to remember the phrase. "Jack of all trades, master of none." Planetside 2 is not a game where "Jack of All Trades" is a compatible play style. You need to specialize, be good at your job, and get a squad who can do what you can't. That is all.
+George Stokes I don't at all. Remember the rest of the phrase... Jack of all trades, master of none - surely better than a master of one. If you actually believe that you have to specialize to succeed, then explain why the default weapons are constantly said to be some of the best weapons. It is because they are versatile. Of course switching to flak armor against tanks or getting a c4 vs. max is important but having a versatile main weapon that gets different attachments is much better like the NS series. Especially as an infiltrator where you can choose your engagements better. This is simply the best choice for SMG as an effective main weapon slot in all situations and able to be used across all factions is a nice bonus.
from my experience in VR at 20 meters it took the same number of bullets reguardless if soft point was equipped or not. i tested it when the game was first released so thats why i diddint buy it. however it MIGHT have been patched (doubt it never noticed anything in patchnotes) being NC i have acess to the cyclone so i just stick with that one.
From the NC point of view, I have to agree with you - NS-7 PDW definitely has a very good "feel to it". I played infiltrator with an SMG a lot during the last couple of months, and although I have used Blitz more than NS-7 PDW, it still feels a bit awkward to me, especially with the suppressor. However, NS-7 PDW "clicked" for me in the first 50-100 kills, it felt "right".
i play this weapon + supresor + extended magazine in close range as infiltrator, and i have to say its still preety fast killing machine. If you used to play smg as infiltrator, you know how to do it, you still will be able to be a good serial killer in close range with this one.
Love using this SMG instead of the VS Sirius at longer ranges - feels kind of like an assault SMG with how much range and accuracy it has over other options in its class. I haven't been able to play much at all recently though .. for some reason Planetside's been memory leaking and going over 2GB usage in about 10 minutes now. Wish they'd fix it so 32-bit OS users can play without restarting every 2-3 lifes.
I always get a little worried whenever someone has to explain the cassette reference. I always think to myself "that wasn't too long ago was it? Was it?" Then I feel old.
I usually just think; oh god, there are awful young people in the world who don't know what a cassette player is. You can't truly appreciate music until you've fixed it with a pencil. :)
Hey Wrel, just some feedback: In my opinion the Planetside 2 letters in the starting screen (with NS-7 PDW Review) have too much serifs. I think that doesn't really fit the Planetside 2-style. Another question: Why's that new trend of Shredder Libs? Do you know something about that? I was wondering the last days why I see so much of them (even high BR players are using them although they could get Dalton or Zepher). All in all great Video, nice editing and a helpful review. Keep it up.
I find that in MOST situations the NS-7 PDW is not a good choice. Until you build it up with attachments. If you attach a 2x sight, extended mag, soft point, and yes a Compensator it makes a VERY good beginner gun that can out class several LMG in mid to long range combat, along with destroying any SMG at 20+ meters. By adding these 4 attachments you effectively make a "LMG" that is very good at range and better in CQC then most LMG's but unlike a LMG it is usable by any class. Would only recommend this combination on heavy and infiltrator. It is "usable" with the medic and engineer. But as far as light assault... almost anything is better. Very good weapon and I love using it. MAIN DOWNSIDE: (assuming all players are on an equal skill level.) point blank encounters with CQC specialty weapons. Other than that... snipers... maybe...
Doubt it. I actually tried downloading the client yesterday, for kicks. And it was giving me an error about using the wrong operating system. Must be a sign.
Absolutely would be. I was seeing how effective my hipfire could be at extreme ranges. As you can tell with the under-the-bridge scene, not incredibly useful 'that' far away.
Sad that you felt you had to explain the cassette player joke. I feel old now :/ Great review tho, I do prefer the NS-7 for its lower rate of fire, regardless of its standard damage and range marks, I find it makes it easier to hold the reticle on target at extended ranges.
I don't think so, to be honest. If you're playing an SMG, your intention is to play within close quarters. The NS-7 PDW is a freak of nature in that its trying to combine carbine and SMG roles. Nothing wrong with that in itself, but if you're looking for an all around close->medium range weapon, most standard non-niche weapons will accomplish that for you.
Absolutely love this gun. Have been using it a lot since I got it on sale a few days ago. I fdo find it as a great weapon for light assault. Since I have auraxiumed both the vx6-7 and Serpent it can really fill the same role quite well. Also I just love the the look and feel to it
"In case you were to young to get the reference, a cassette player is something that **PLAYS CASSETTE TAPES**"
Indeed. They did not play death. These cassette players play death.
Don't catch death!
they "usually" played music instead of bullets. What does he know that I don't lmao
Coming back to this video it's amazing how much better the game looked 10 years ago. I wish we could get these graphics back
You know, I do have to wonder sometimes about PS2's weapon design- not the stats, but the animations. Who thought it would be a good idea to have the entire top/back of the weapon reciprocate when it's fired? Does nanite reconstruction replace teeth knocked out by your own gun?

you can pick this up for 1.99 on the game's website in the bundles section. Fresh Meat Bundle gives this gun, a camo, and a 1 day xp booster for 1.99
Thank-you! Wasn't sure if I was gonna get it till I saw your comment!
Just got it! Thank you!
Thank you for saying this, I grabbed it for free with that 250 sc phone app thing!
Last Christmas, I got it for $0.99 :))
cant get it because i live in europe :D:D:D:D:D:D::DD:D:;

Good stuff, Wrel. This is your 2nd or 3rd video that I've watched, and you always deliver good quality info with entertaining style.
Oh man. Best of luck, mate.
And thanks for the video. They're never a waste of time, and I always enjoy listening to you talk about things for some reason.

Wrel: aka the "cassette player"...
Me: Why is it called the cassette player ?...
*video answers with the reload animations*
Wrel, your video editing is OP.
Woo, was hoping you'd review this soon. All your other reviews have helped me a lot. So I'm sure this will as well! : D
I love the cassette player/Walkman reference. As always, these videos are super helpful. Wrel
Congrats on 30000!
"Played music instead of bullets." Hahahaha, Lol.
Wrel your editing skills are getting better and better! Good review!
great review. most professional and complete reviews and guides i've found for any game. keep it up wrel.
Wow hell of a review went in full detail of the pdw nice job :)
Love the VR range comparison! I've never thought of that it has given me much to think of and improve on! :)
I loved the ending Wrel and another good review!
Mmm. What I was getting at was... Due to the longer short reload, you're at a disadvantage. If you extend the magazine, that means you have more flexibility with finding good situations where you can pull that short reload off. You 'always' want to go for the short reload, regardless of how you play, (unless that last bullet is going to finish your enemy off.)
So extended mags just means more flexibility to compensate for that weakness.
The Fresh Meat Pack allows you to get the NS-7 PDW for 199 station cash instead of 700!
I find this weapon works pretty well with the right attachments as a combat medic since a good medic is often on the front lines where everyone dies a lot
i just use LA to jet around and just flanking them
or use infiltraitor or sometimes even heavy just use that armor lol
The Armistice is now tied with this weapon for fastest recoil recovery as of 4/16/14.
The fact that a cassette tape had to be explained makes me so, so sad.
Why? Cause it makes you feel old? You should feel wise ^^

I urge anyone looking to buy this gun to try both builds in the vr room and then preview the weapon buying the attachments suited for your playstlye.
liking the new intro wrel!. good work on the vids
I use the advanced lasersight with compensator and soft point ammo and no reflex sight, it is good for cqc and managing its recoil at rang (20-60 meters) i use it on the light assault and my infil when the Blitz is of no use or out ranged
CQC badass
When you feel like an old lady because Wrel has to explain what a cassette player is...
xD
Atley Meow do you have instagram?
Lmao
Right now you can access this weapon for just 1.99$ , by buying fresh meat starter pack! You also get 1 day XP boost and a Camo with it.
5:40 what is the difference between generation 1 and 2 smg?
Generation one SMGs were introduced when the game started, then the 2nd generation was added which have higher magazines and other little perks(i think is that have a bit less damage but a higher rate of fire)
Sorry for late response...lol
Just dropped a couple more links into the video description, sorry about that.
I like the new graphic at the beginning with the overlay and combat going on in the background. I really should have bought this weapon the last time it was on sale. I think I'd enjoy using it.
Grazie per tutto il vostro sostegno. Sono contento che ti piace il video :)

showing targets on 10m 20m 30m in VR is defenitely a good idea! thank you, good job
Why doe the gameplay here from 7years ago looks better than the gameplay in 2021 on my ps4 ?
I always thought of the long reload animation was just turning up the volume on the "cassette tape"
I own it now. I like it, after you slap an advanced laser sight on it, at least. And you should absolutely use Soft Point on your Sirius.
One thing I got to say is yes only infiltrators should use SMGs as other classes generally have cqc variants of their default weapon type. But NC do not have a hip fire Carbine like the Jag and the VX6-7 so an SMG would be good for those who like to hip fire.

Always appreciated, Murda. Thanks for the comment and the support.
I love the walkman reference. Im on the edge of the tech era and i remember those
There are some attachment bugs with the Golden weapon versions. Send a tweet to @Arclegger and let him know, or post it in the official bug forums.
I use the NS-7 as main for Eng, Med and LA and i love this little Walkman =)
my recoil control is bad so this is a gift from heaven! ... FOR VANU!

It seems to be better at ranges that you probably wish you had a different weapon type in most cases, and if you are at a typical SMG range would want a different SMG.
Another bit is that at longer ranges at least the VS would have to decide if they want to deal with bullet drop.
I love hearing the sound this gun makes when it fires. I bought it knowing it was a great gun and for the sound it makes when it fires
What were the camos at 0:18, and at 7:18?
the NS-7 PDW ended up being a much better smg for me as even in close range fights i can get better head hits than the other smgs and with the small ammo clip it helps me improve my burst control, as first i did used the extended ammo but after awhile when i got more used to the gun, i noticed most of the time had more then 10 ammo left before i reload, so i took if off for the laser sight
Love the double kill on the npc guy and the random cloaked one that decided running in front of an enemy dumping a mag was a good idea
Guess I am going to have to get over the using bullets thing at some point...great review!
reminds me of the old dpm machine gun (nicknamed the record player) weapons like this just spark some sort of interest in me
after the fast reload. It al
so get most out of the hipfire accuracy that is, as you said, the best in the game.
Wrel, have you ever thought about doing an over all review of the faction specific SMG's?
I'd like to see the Cerberus review next.
I personally found it underpowered, but would like to see your thoughts and opinions on it.
nice and usefull vid like always.
i don't see people not liking it, hot killed many time by this gsmg ( mostly used by other infiltrator, have to use it more thought, using my blitz ( but prefer cyclone maybe for the dmg). still a good gun at range like you say.
what pistol is that at 2:47? Does it come with sight.
I think a lot of the criticisms of the ns-7 are totally valid, but for me, the advantages make it my favorite weapon in the game (though I only play NC right now). I use it almost exclusively when playing infiltrator, and break it out some times for the light assault as well. Welcome to the NC. Your initiation is complete.
Lol it's funny that you did this video today because I just finished the PDW part of a new video I'm working on. I think our opinion is pretty much the same although in my video It's probably gonna sound like I'm hating on it a tad. But anyways, great video as always you handsome devil!

agree... feel old knowing what cassette are, or even that you could destroy the would with a mini disc ( or floppy)
Think I dropped it down to the standard 55 for the screenshot (default unless you change it.)
from my experience in VR at 20 meters it took the same number of bullets reguardless if soft point was equipped or not. i tested it when the game was first released so thats why i diddint buy it. however it MIGHT have been patched (doubt it never noticed anything in patchnotes) being NC i have acess to the cyclone so i just stick with that one.

I played infiltrator with an SMG a lot during the last couple of months, and although I have used Blitz more than NS-7 PDW, it still feels a bit awkward to me, especially with the suppressor. However, NS-7 PDW "clicked" for me in the first 50-100 kills, it felt "right".
I love this weapon, after purchasing/testing it I quickly made it the default weapon on most of my loadouts
Just got it in the WDS supply cache. Useful video.
i play this weapon + supresor + extended magazine in close range as infiltrator, and i have to say its still preety fast killing machine.
I may. A lot of folks have been asking for that.
Watching the kill counter in the top right and the chat box in this video is hilarious.
I feel old now :/
Great review tho, I do prefer the NS-7 for its lower rate of fire, regardless of its standard damage and range marks, I find it makes it easier to hold the reticle on target at extended ranges.
Notice you included the Artemis on the graph, but not the other scout SMGs. Of course, the Artemis IS amazing.
Absolutely love this gun. Have been using it a lot since I got it on sale a few days ago. I fdo find it as a great weapon for light assault. Since I have auraxiumed both the vx6-7 and Serpent it can really fill the same role quite well. Also I just love the the look and feel to it
Guess ill go buy the fresh meat starter pack for 199 SC since it includes that weapon + a camo and a boost :P
That's what i did.
D BlueVenom well i had 300 free SC (dunno when i got it lol) so i could afford the Cyclone at 99 SC and the fresh meat pack at 199 SC all for free :P
xSS4x i got the silenced version of the NS-7 PDW for 1 SC
Johnny Buttsecks Nice, though you need membership for 1 SC deals so its the equivalent of 1501 SC :P (although you get other perks with membership)
Its a bloody good deal isn't it. Gonna get it tomorrow. Might actually stop me getting bored of ps2.cert grinding sucks
What attachments are you using at 13:54?
That last kill was quite nice dude!
Wrel, have you done a video comparing the different types of med sticks? Instant vs over time?
"The allmighty Flashlight"...really THE BEST option on this gun XD.
I like the new intro Wrel
Nice intro wrel!
