ik u unemployed just like me cuz this video is way to tapped in, for this to even come up in my recomended... man i needa get a job... very good video tho
TLDR: Human nature, social pressures, & commerce Classifying things helps us sort through the immensity of the world. Plus, it can help teach. With social media's integration into society, many more people are hyper-aware of how they dress regardless of their interest in fashion. Since the art of dressing doesn't come naturally to them, classification and formulaic dressing make presenting as someone "in the know" easier. Alternatively, this may also have spawned from the retail side of fashion. Within retail, we must constantly keep our target customer and their desires in mind. Without clear categorization and boundaries, it is challenging to get buyers and/or designers on the same page.
Holy shit I can't believe I just stumbled upon the greatest fashion content ever. You're so surgical with it. You got answers for questions that aren't even there yet in my mind. Peak UA-cam.
Thoughtfully created and well done video fam. I personally love the more formal attire especially as I grow older. A more mature and timeless look imo. cheers.
Agree, what I don't like is that my personal style, formal streetwear is being consumed by the masses. What I like is that, one piece can change the whole narrative of the outfit. The accessories! You slap a whole suit head to toe, match the tie with a snapback or any type of headwear. Boom! Wear a tucked in T-shirt, jeans, sneakers and finish with a beret. Boom! It's like running from streetwear and formal, and meeting in the middle.
such a good video, i feel like my style has shifted into this category over the past 2-3 years and i’ve had a hard time finding the term / word to describe it. Formal streetwear is perfect
This has been around for a long time. It’s sort of what one end of Casual ended up in. My part of the world has a lot of shops that deliver this look with a lot of the labels you mention
Man, wtf i was doing this in high school in 2015-2018. I guess, for the most part, with the introduction and the ability to be in a bubble, many subcultures have blown up. Nice video bro!
Sun-Ra is another fashionable jazz icon. He was one of the godfathers of Afro-futurism and definitely influenced the likes of Erykah Badu and Andre 3000’s style. I would also throw in the late Roy Hargrove into the street formal look. He’s been rocking like that since the 90s. You really can’t top the “hip-factor” of a jazz musician!
I have seen new clients who want me to make them dress shirts, polo shirts, suit coats, waistcoats, and trousers. They just like the creative side of formal clothing like all of the endless fabrics and details.
i absolutely hate this style but also think the individual pieces are really good. the execution is literally what hypebeasts were doing back in the day but it just looks more refined and considerate. Wearing all expensive brands isnt inherently stylish but it is seen as fashionable.
Fashion trends are cyclical, and this particular style had its peak between 2003 and 2009. A quick look at magazines, TV shows, and music videos from that era shows its popularity. About every 20 years, styles from previous decades make a comeback, and we're seeing that reemergence now.
Very good video thank you. When mentioning the name of a piece or brand it’d be nice if you could write it down or show a pic of its logo or something bc many times i can’t type them in google. Thank you!
I think if you’re a stylish person it should translate to your overall life. Calling out people for “coping your style” lol is not being stylish . Be flattered and keep it moving we all get inspiration from someone or something. None of these people in this video are originals of any of these styles. Great video keep it positive and uplifting
Nah the ASAP NASt beef was weird. you cant call yourself a real artist when you are begging another nigga to acknowledge how your dress, especially when the OG pieces aren't your own original design. There was no concrete merit to his accusation. He should be dressing for himself not for the acknowledgment of other niggas. It just looked like a brokie just trying to get a response from a guy who was up. imo, Nast should've instead used that energy to focus on his rap career instead. Though i know who he is. I can't name 3 Nast rap songs
Formal street wear or as I call it: the"ivy league 2.0 but the uneducated, unemployed, NEET version style". The act of wearing formal pieces with other casual ones: a blazer / jacket suit with some jog pants or sneakers for example
Hmm, I have to disagree with the ref to the French photographers pioneering the term formal streetwear - I would say "Art Comes First", two friends who originally worked for Ozwald Boateng definitely have been working this style in a distinct way for quite some time. You also didn't mention "rude boys", a very British meets Jamaica-style crafted during the Reggae sound system music scene that was coming out of Britain and Jamaica in the 70's and further stylised by the 2nd generation Windrush era.
Really liked this video but not mentioning Lemaire is criminal. Absolutely THE leading high fashion brand when stylistically considering this lineage of dressing.
Does anyone know what shoes he has on at 10:53? They look like Nike ld-1000 but more sleek with less branding. Btw Amazing video big fan of yours on insta good to see the content is just as good on UA-cam!
Subtitles or the brands you name would be nice, I have no idea what brands you are naming at 10:12. Edit found it: Plastica Gardenheir Clogs but u said it so fast haha
You should do a video on classic heritage Americana but it’s not on tiktok so idk. Its essentially going back to Marlon Brando- engineer or service boots, japanese selvedge denim jeans, tubular knit tees, bombers & leather motorcycle jackets. Best style
ik u unemployed just like me cuz this video is way to tapped in, for this to even come up in my recomended... man i needa get a job... very good video tho

Nothing is new under the sun only your experiences towards them.
The French are not groids lmao
"Nothing gets invented, they just get discovered" type ahh statement 😭😭😭
Everything got so weird after 2020. Everything is labeled. I wasn’t even aware I was wearing ‘Gorpcore’.

I think chronically online people are at fault.
HAHAHAAHAHA

90% of Asia has been running formal streetwear for years
You mean Japan, Korea, and China? And not India, Afghanistan, Indonesia, Philliphines and the rest of Asia right?
So basically pieces that juxtapose each other but in a semi formal and streetwear type way. I love it
You're a sheep.
Formal street wear been the style for the mature since 2021 in my opinion
I have figured it out… just formal enough to get you in places.. but if you end up at a night club you don’t look too pressed up for it either
Holy shit I can't believe I just stumbled upon the greatest fashion content ever. You're so surgical with it. You got answers for questions that aren't even there yet in my mind. Peak UA-cam.
I love how u gave a shout out to asap nast. He is such an underrated fashion icon

3:48 the Swedish leather motorcycle jacket is a sick piece to own, definitely not cheap but really nice item I wanna add to my wardrobe.
Kenijima probably had the biggest impact in the online fashion sphere when it comes to formal streetwear since like 2019/2020
i absolutely hate this style but also think the individual pieces are really good. the execution is literally what hypebeasts were doing back in the day but it just looks more refined and considerate. Wearing all expensive brands isnt inherently stylish but it is seen as fashionable.
Your in depth but interesting way of presenting fashion is so well executed. Just subscribed. Keep up the amazing work ❤

This taught me how important research is. That theolonous guy is interesting
People are sad. You'll need labels to fit in 😂😂😂😂😂😂
1:53 "a hat is never formal" bowler, fedora, and others would disagree
Sooooo...just throwing any garments together...?
10:38 name of the shoes?
Formal street wear or as I call it: the"ivy league 2.0 but the uneducated, unemployed, NEET version style".
The act of wearing formal pieces with other casual ones: a blazer / jacket suit with some jog pants or sneakers for example
Nast might have been the catalyst in the NA but this been scandinavian street wear/style forever tho
yea definitely, I feel like everybody everywhere is starting to look like Ikea. lol
Cole-Haan had these oxfords that had Nike Air soles and they were so dope. I couldn't afford fuck all in 2002 so yeah.

Blondey McCoy was wearing 'eclectic grandpa' style years ago
