I'm late. I "lost" a lot of friends to Göttingen. Because they wanted to study something like "medicine". But Göttingen and the region is too nice. If you are looking for another nice city to study nerd things like "engeneering" Braunschweig could be something. Also Harz region is Clausthal Zellerfeld.
I live in Göttingen since 20 years now and I still love it. The people are all crazy, all different and so interesting. The food is great. I can really add to your tour that when you go around the town, you often see a building that looks cool and then you read a sign infront of that building telling you that it is another institute of the university. The university is literally everywhere. Another thing that you didn't mention is the landscape around Göttingen. We have sweet small green hills that look like in tuscany. It's a perfect place for many many biking tours and outdoor activities. We have the Harz mountains right next to us and a lot of medieval castles in reach.
I lived in Göttingen for 7 years and then recently moved to another big city. trust me, I have been missing Gö ever since! It was so convenient to live there! I miss Gö soooo much!
