    Sheesh. Not sure how I've never found you before, but this was exceedingly high quality and dropped some major knowledge bombs. Thanks for the hard work on this.

    Loved the the way the drums sound! Your toms sound deep and killer omg! QUESTION.... what did you use to mount your overhead sound panels so close to the ceiling! My studio is in my basement and i can use as much head space as i can get.

      Thanks so much! Check out Z clips made by orange aluminum. I’ve linked them below! They were super helpful to keep the panels flush to maintain head room!

    Should I use overhead mics if I’m in a smaller room for band practice and we’re recording?

    Are your ceilings about 7 foot tall over the kit? Looks like a basement, which is what I have as a recording space.

    Thanks for making the video its very helpful. Food for thought, the back ground music is very distracting especially because it has a wide stereo spread. I have adhd and found my attention focusing on the music moving around. hope you dont take offence to this.

      Thank you so much for the feedback. I’m glad you found these videos helpful! I will 100% keep that in mind when selecting background music for future videos. Appreciate you and your honesty!

    This is a great video, thank you. I'm curious- you mentioned that your ORTF pair are directly above the snare but they look to be closer to dead center of the kit. If they are in fact directly above the snare, where does that place your kick in the stereo image?

    • @kylewmay
      @kylewmay  Рік тому

      Great question. I try to angle the stand so that if the mics keep the snare in the center, it would also keep the kick in the center as it's coming from the left side (audience perspective) of the kit. hope that made sense.

    Which VU meter are you using?

    • @kylewmay
      @kylewmay  3 роки тому

      Thanks so much! I have a pair of the Coleman audio VU meters. Sometimes inside of protools I’ll use the Waves VU meters as well.

      @@kylewmay thank you for the reply! The Coleman sure looks nice! I’ve been looking for a VU meter to contrast my in the box workflow.

    What height are your ceilings? They kind of look like 8', but some camera angles make them look higher. I'm going to only have 7'8" in my basement music room once it's done which sucks.

    Question: any phase issues with 4 overheads? Thanks!

    • @kylewmay
      @kylewmay  6 місяців тому

      Most likely yes, but whenever I send to clients, I recommend that they choose one or the other. I just like to have options. As of late, I've just committed to having a single pair of ORTF overheads.

    One more Question!.... You painted your load bearing beam white... and it looks good! But do you get a kind of subtle low bell tone sound from vibration caused by your studio monitors? Btw after seeing yours painted, i did the same lol. Thanks for the idea!

    • @kylewmay
      @kylewmay  3 роки тому

      Right on! And no, I haven’t noticed any overtones from the pole. It really shouldn’t be able to vibrate so much to give you a tone. You could always wrap it with a packing blanket?

    Absolutely digging these videos! Is there ever a time when you would use both the CV4s (in ORTF) and the 4038s (as spaced pairs) at the same time, or would they fight each other in the mix?

    • @kylewmay
      @kylewmay  3 роки тому +2

      Thanks so much, John! Yes, every now and again, I may sneak in the Cole’s for some added low end, but not always. My main reason for keeping them separate is because they are not perfectly phase aligned and I don’t want to risk putting the overheads out of phase.
