Scenario: 1899, Guarma
*Second Battle of Guarma*
After the disastrous landing at Aguasdulces (First Battle of Guarma), the US Army sent troops to Guarma to conduct a daring operation. Their plan was to make a surprise attack on the other side of Guarma, flanking Cuban forces and capturing the main Cuban garrison at Aguasdulces by trekking 8 miles through the jungle.
(0:10) The first landing occurred in the early morning, with about 100 troops trying to reach land by boat. However, the US troops encountered unexpected Cuban artillery and machine gun fire, which cut down nearly the entire wave before they could even reach the shore (1:18).
The second wave was more successful, with about 50 men being able to land on a rocky beach to flank the Cuban machine guns on the ridge (2:21). The US soldiers faced a uphill battle, taking heavy casualties to silence the guns. The Americans were able to crest the ridge, but lacked the manpower to push into the jungle, which was crawling with the remaining Cuban defenders (4:26).
3 hours later, conditions worsened and a thunderstorm began (4:52). 150 Cuban reinforcements had made the treacherous march across the jungle from the garrison in Aguasdulces to take out the Americans (6:18). The Americans were beat back to the shoreline as a third wave arrived, although it had lost half of its men from the rough seas (8:15). The storm worsened and night fell, ending hostilities for the day.
In the morning, surviving US troops were massacred on the beach by an overwhelming Cuban force (8:42). A rescue party (9:52) was sent to retrieve the men but the boats were sunk, leaving the troops stranded on the beach to be picked off by Cubans. Some soldiers managed to swim back out to sea to be saved by US navy ships.
The Second Battle of Guarma ended in total defeat for US troops, with 70% casualties, with most men being shot, drowned, or captured by Cuban troops.

Hi I'm from Cuba. The mambises were actually allied with the US troops in that war lol. They have been fighting for independence for decades and formed a pragmatic common front against the spanish at that point.

Red Dead's AI reacts to dynamite before it explodes. They will always try to dive away. Sometimes it can be stupid though, I once saw someone dive into a fire to avoid getting hit by dynamite.

D-day was way more successful, I would compare this to the commando raid on Dieppe, the first attempted mass amphibious landing of WW2 that was a total failure, and resulting in high casualties for the brits and Canadians.

My great grandfather died in the 1898 war in Cuba, in the spanish side. His daughter told to my father that she remembered go to Huelva port and see his father and the young soldiers taking the steamboat, she never saw his father again, very sad

I do remember the Guarma section being slightly harder than all the US military missions, I guess it's confirmed. Cuban military npcs are too over powered.
if you go into one of the towns in Guarma, the Cuban Military literally obliterates you within seconds.

Add music from the story missions and it wouldve been even more cinematic, I think he usually does put music in, this time he didnt though.
The potential is there, why are there no missions like this and cheat codes available in both PC and console versions is beyond me. You create a world with so many things and so much detail just to leave you the bare bones gameplay options to enjoy that world.

I’m gonna sound insane but I always liked how they do animations for games this well, especially with how they get show. The reaction to being hit feels accurate and satisfying
Lol Why would that sound insane? What would be odd is if someone didn't like good animations.
I also love how NPCs flinch, duck and weave like they would in actual combat, rather than stone face staring down the enemy. They all feel much more alive and worried about self preservation
Haven't played RDR2 yet but in GTA 5 if you shoot a cops buddy, they duck and look at their buddy to show that these guys aren't just emotionless AI

Lo curioso es que esta batalla fue real en 1898 en cuba y es muy buena recreación salvo por un detalle, el ejercito español tenia los fusiles Mausser de cerrojo y el ejercito de los EEUU los fusiles Springfield. Por todo lo demas muy buena representación, sigue así 👍
it means The curious thing is that this battle was real in 1898 in Cuba and it is a very good recreation except for one detail, the Spanish army had the bolt-action Mausser rifles and the US army the Springfield rifles. For everything else very good representation, keep it up

That one Cuban soldier who actually has the brass balls to throw the incoming Americans a stick of dynamite and charge them with the rifle feels real AF man, I was thinking for a sec that was you, the recorder, secretly playing him, but no its, its his AI. He's gone absolutely berserk. God imagine this level of AI in a game like GTA IV.
This just shows how fucking WELL MADE the death animations and the whole damn game is. When I can just sit and watch AI fight each other and it's entertaining. Alot of games miss the importance of having real gore, detailed animations etc.. Rockstar man...

the game's not programmed to work like that - for those two sides to battle like that! that's just them acting on code, yet it's only a LITTLE more junk-jank and stiff than almost any other AAA game's pre-scripted in-game cutscenes.
Rockstar is the only studio where I (sometimes) say to myself "Yeah, they've earned their DRM-only, always-online status, as infuriating as it is. The games are simply _that_ good."
I'm not a Rockstar Fanboy, either - I'm not really a fanboy of anything - it's just that the results, as sporadic as they are, are overwhelming. no other studio can do what they do. RDR2 is much more than a masterpiece (as imperfect as it is) ... we're only now starting to figure out how deep some of it goes.
