Exactly what I have been saying, give them real rackets and they are average amateurs. Most players today do not belong in pro tennis. They are there because of the artificial equipment. The equipment provides the power the control and the top spin for the player.
At 0:17, for those who are wondering, The trapezoid-shaped wooden press was used for older wooden tennis racquets because it provided even pressure across the frame, helping to maintain the shape of the racquet and prevent warping or distortion over time. This was particularly important for wooden racquets, which were more susceptible to changes in shape due to moisture and temperature fluctuations.
Less temp and humidity fluctuations (assuming you don’t store the racket outside in the elements) than the string tension would warp the wood frame over time
This is a great idea! Too many boring exhibitions with dumb rules trying to appeal to gen Z. This would be something genuinely interesting and prove who’s the most skilful and adaptable.
@@inam_-zh5zh Hahahaha Stan is actually pretty harsh, but he has colleague's respect. Monfils falls into his age range, both speak french and they have +15 years on tour together, to the least. Given there was never bad blood between, it's natural to see them comfortably getting along. But he is certainly not the nicest hahaha.
These rackets, even non poly strings are a whole different game, just look at the shift in technique that occurred with modern graphite and more western grips with poly strings. Now everyone has a lot more margin for error, way easier to hit heavy spin and swing as hard as possible and keep the ball in. Would be amazing to see a wooden racket tournament each year with serious prize money and wild cards for maybe some older players. Would be fascinating. And I think it helps develop aspects of a person's game like timing, touch, volleys etc that would increase performance with modern rackets after.
It would be much appreciated if Tennis TV could actually get a close up of each racquet that the players are using during these challenges. Some of us have at least a passing knowledge of historical racquets.

Imagine having a delivery arrive and you're only watching tennis? I had to turn the sound off once when the electrician came to do some work. As a woman, it sends out the wrong message lol!
so...what were the racquets? Give us some info!! I have owned the Head Arthur Ashe, the T2000 and the Maxply in my (long) time so would really appreciate a bit more background.
I know that footwork and speed are two different things in tennis, but hearing Monfils saying that he has to improve his footwork shocked me a little bit :)
Now you know why the players in the 60s and earlier were really the true GOATs. These look like metal rackets. The old wood rackets were much less consistent.
haha just shows how good they are to pick up those generic-assed sticks and get down with it. you know like hitting better than any of us ever did with them at our peaks.
This video is super telling about the impact modern racquets have had on the game (and not everyone thinks that’s a positive thing). The fact that they both starting hitting slices and continental forehands 😮

Im a big fan of stan, and i know hes doing for the fun of it, but his forced grunt came out pretty annoying since he had a microfone on him :( I bet if he watched the outcome of the footage he'd agree aswell
Stan talking English, French and Rafa was a nice touch
Rafa ? lol
lmaoo
I read this comment first before I watched the vid and was confused. As soon as I heard Stan say “Vamos!” I understood 🤣
@@hetsahkThe grunts

I love Monfil's confidence and positivity in his commentary. There's a reason why he has some of the best comebacks in matches.
No one:
Wawrinka: EEEHHH
EEEHHH !
Wawrinka:Vamos
i laughed everytime i heard Stan's grunt 😂
Pull the volume on max, let the video play and see what the neighbours think you’re watching 😅
EEEHHH !

It also looked cool, back in the day.
I played in this era (albeit as a junior)
But who played with that?
In terms of style, nobody will ever beat Dimitrov with his 1950ies racquet ❤
There should be a big tournament every year where wooden racquets are used.
the throw back slam yeah :)
Johnny Mc would come back from retirement for such a tournament and would probably still win it 😊
And smash all those rackets for kicks @@fabianhauser708

So many forearms would be broken by guys trying to get their regular topspin out of those racquets! 😂
This was fun to watch. I like seeing these kinds of no pressure, just having fun
What is there about old rackets that make players go "ehhhhhhh"??
Grigor and rublo was still gold tho ❤😮
Two nicest guys on tour!!
You clearly don't know about Stan
Educate me then @@inam_-zh5zh

Gael and Stan 🥰
Love this kind of content! Cool, relaxed, authentic. Especially with the tour veterans!
It would be much appreciated if Tennis TV could actually get a close up of each racquet that the players are using during these challenges. Some of us have at least a passing knowledge of historical racquets.
Two of my favorite players ❤ still on tour and still so amazing!
My two favourite players of the current tour!
Love Monfils's positivity
Tennis is a sport of a lifetime. This video will help keep the interest in a great sport of a lifetime.
okay so now we know that we can hang with pro players in a match as long as they have a racket from the 80's. Or at least that's the hope!
My grandad started buying these type of rackets for me at the flea market after he found out I play tennis
Grandpa is a legend, hopefully you think so too. If not, gather your friends, play a small tournament with the rackets, you'll see then :D
Let me guess, your grandpa didn't play tennis back in his day?
very cool

I love when they do these challenges it so cool
I'm amazed that Gael was able to hit the sweet spot on almost all of his shots - that's some amazing technique there ladies and gentlemen.
I love to see Stan playing Maria Sharapova here, imagine the audio
Atleta bravissimo e di una simpatia unica...👏👏👏

You watch a lot of adult movies w men grunting in them?

I love how in these challenges, they move like us club players. Makes me feel a little better about my game. :)
big credit to the players of the old days
I love how Stan, who hits massive backhands on tour, is only slicing in this one.
5:30... maybe.
so...what were the racquets? Give us some info!! I have owned the Head Arthur Ashe, the T2000 and the Maxply in my (long) time so would really appreciate a bit more background.
I'm wondering if Stan was using an early Yonex aluminium frame. Perhaps an R1? Gael...no clue.
Someone's gotta play with that Trapezium-shaped racket. Shit looks wild
Please do more of these!
LOL! This is fun. Wasn't it Grior and Rublev with wood rackets last time?
Correct about the players, but Rublev had an aluminum racquet with a plastic throat bridge iirc. Dimitrov did have a wooden racquet.
Monfils the goat of entertainment!
What a great idea!! Loving this video! By the way, Stan: what's with the "eeeee"? 😅
I know that footwork and speed are two different things in tennis, but hearing Monfils saying that he has to improve his footwork shocked me a little bit :)
What were the racquets? I couldn't make them out. Monfils' looked like an old Ken Rosewall Aluminum but I couldn't be sure.
I wouldn't be surprised if these rackets were from some flea market, without a brand.
stan backhand is ageless
La Monf amazing hand eye co-ordination
Stan The Man, what’s with the grunting? Is the racquet really that heavy? 😂😂
Now you see how good these guys were back then ;)
Stan the Man speaking Rafa Nadal was comedy gold. 😂
Imagine playing with those 😆
I used to!! 😂
Gael's making me feel good about my serves
Stan too classy with it
It’s good Stan knows he is the man 😂
Federer was basically playing with a 90s racquet until the early 2010s.
Now you know why the players in the 60s and earlier were really the true GOATs. These look like metal rackets. The old wood rackets were much less consistent.
Love these Time Travel vids bit it would be nice to know the name of the rackets each player gets to use -not always easy to see on the vids.
JUST LET THEM TALK FRENCH
Vamos! 🎾
Entertaining. Interesting to see who is adaptable. But next time both with the same racket.
It’s funny how Stan is still grunting even with soft hits lol
He was making the video more entertaining

40 years old rackets making them play like 40 years older :D
Why stan is talking Rublev?! 😀

bro they still play better that me with that kind of racket?
The eeeeeeeeh of stan is pretty annoying
Wawrinka picked an old Yonex racket!
Wawrinka's EEHH looks like an easy competitor against the bweh from rublev 😂
