Poor MICHAEL seemed to lose confidence as the competition progresses and he makes some bad, if brave, early/starter calls... (Yet in the bonus rounds he acquits himself well...) God love him, the pressure on these contestants is HUGE!!! *HUG!* xx SF
Much appreciated, as always! And it seems like a couple of the historically better-performing teams have slipped a bit this season. Still... great time had by all!
Thank you very much for the upload, yaorito. It would help, however, if you would not write such revealing descriptions. Your commentary gave the result away for me.
+Orlando G. The description is *right there* directly under the video. It's hard not to see it even if you dont intentionally want to read it. One thing is not reading the comments before watching, but the description can sometimes be in-your-face unavoidable. Why not just not give away the result in the description: it is perfectly possible to fucking describe what a video is without giving away the fucking result. How dimwitted are you
Monique H No, it isn't academic. Everything affects culture. Academic should be restricted to the highly recondite. Otherwise, it may as well just be the Chase
Not really a great showing from either team. If they keep this up, they'll be off the series in the first round. A shame really, given (especially) Manchesters previous outings. Here's hoping they get better in round 2...
I sympathize with those who find the pop music rounds pointless (although I usually enjoy watching the contestants listen to them), but those answers on the starter and second bonus question ... I'm kind of flabbergasted.
Mr Paxman always tries to put contestants at their ease by, for example, a little good-natured banter. Yet there are always commentators who're pretty hard on Mr Paxman. Find it odd that anyone could imagine that top students at top colleges of top universities in the world would be so lacking in confidence as to get upset.
LOL 2:44 "...and I've just crawled out of my basement for the first time in 15 years" Personally I liked Helms. 10 times less brash than the average Texan. His manner reminds me of one of the Kids in the Hall.
Ascribing not only that Mr Paxman mocks the contestants but also that he is a complete ignoramus who has no knowledge of any of the subjects other than what is on his cards: is there no end to mean-minded comments about this gentleman?
Adam Walker Well he got 2 starter questions right and also gave the answers to the team leader in at least a couple of the bonuses - that's more than a lot manage to achieve! I really wonder at some comments; don't you actually watch and take in what's happening before you pass harsh judgement?
These young people are an endless source of amusement for Mr. Paxman.
michael looks like he has crippling social anxiety
Michael of Manchester looks like he is going to faint and puke... Poor guy !

Oriel Oxford, not Cambridge (on the title). Thanks for the timely uploads, yaorito!
Bath is baked
Rasputin vs. Charles II
For those curious, the answer to the final question was "grandfathers".
Hmm... I'll give brutalist architecture a pass.
Much appreciated, as always! And it seems like a couple of the historically better-performing teams have slipped a bit this season. Still... great time had by all!
That music round from Oxford was utterly hopeless
Helms is so astonishingly attractive
Correct
thanks for the subtitles man
Does Cambridge really have an Oriel college?
Manchester Michael - just keep pressing the button like you’re trying to stop a bus
COLE PORTER!!
Thanks for sharing!
those puzzled faces when the cure started playing
The smirks from the Manchester table were oitright annoying especially because they were performing so atrociously
Title: Oriel is in OXFORD, not Cambridge
Oriel is an Oxford college.
Hail, yaorito1!
Oriel-Cambridge?
Thank you very much for the upload, yaorito. It would help, however, if you would not write such revealing descriptions. Your commentary gave the result away for me.
why not try watching the actual video first? what is a description if not info about the actual video?

I first watch the entire video before reading any descriptions or comments.
"Early" Bath.
Thank you yaorito1 !!!!!!
wish paxo would have told us the answer to the last question. hope that question comes up again
It’s grandfathers
Siantonas looks like Jesus and Bath looks like Newton
thank you
Paxman is more forgiving of a pretty face when then buzz in early, that poor Michael from Manchester :/
The ignorance on the music round was awkward to watch.
If you're over 38.
I hate the pop music rounds. Way more impressive if they score well on Classical music
Not really. It's supposed to be academic. They shouldn't have a tacky pop music round, at all. That rubbish belongs on ITV.
Pop music influences culture, thus society studies are affected by it so it can be viewed as academic if you study it and it's influence.

Someone, disconnect Michael's buzzer!
Didn't get The Clash? For shame.
Huh, two candidates for _Catweazle Lives Again_ in the one match!

Now, I'm someone who's always rooting for Manchester. But this year is just horrible, even worse than the last
Are you a Manchester alumni?
Ugh the students from Manchester are really driving me up the wall especially Bath he seems arrogant, i would not get on with him
Nothing like a little arrogance to see arrogance in others when there is no evidence for it.
so much opportunity wasted--when the crew might've rigged up suntan lamps for these see-through ghouls.
startsat 3:00

I know right 😂😂😂 gosh, the music round was easy. Guess that's not their forte.
I fancy Joesph Bath!!
i survived cole porter but nearly broke down when they called the cure modest mouse hahah this must be one of the worst music rounds i remember
*Buzz*Carl Marx
Oriel were so embarrassingly bad in the music round
He even looks like Newton
Michael is the guy from Harry Potter movie
Paxman is a little hard on these young people.

Helms is gorgeous!
Correct
i want Helms to rearrange my guts
So so so true
Jane Scanlon is a super bookish babe. Grrr....
Michael for the Manchester team looks like Jon Venables, and he's a lead weight in that already lacking team
WHAT'S SO FUNNY, MANCHESTER?!
Bath is high I don’t care what anyone says
Paxman takes the Mickey when someone guesses Cole Porter wrongly. Of course HE's got the answers in front of him.
Ascribing not only that Mr Paxman mocks the contestants but also that he is a complete ignoramus who has no knowledge of any of the subjects other than what is on his cards: is there no end to mean-minded comments about this gentleman?
Probably just his age and his pop culture knowledge.
I got 65 points!!
Michael I'm embarrassed to live in Manchester
He's not even from Manchester. He's from North Wales; in fact, not a single Manchester person you see here was from the city!
Were you not listening?
Adam Walker Well he got 2 starter questions right and also gave the answers to the team leader in at least a couple of the bonuses - that's more than a lot manage to achieve! I really wonder at some comments; don't you actually watch and take in what's happening before you pass harsh judgement?
These people really need to spend less time in the library and listen to some rock 'n roll.
yeah, this was weak
Oh dear... this mob need to get out more.
a poor effort from both sides
brit kids can't recognize The Clash!!! tsk, tsk!
