Here's the story.... (LOL!) The Brady Bunch had shut down production by early 1974 knowing it was not renewed for a sixth season. The series' set filled an entire soundstage at Paramount and was not immediately dismantled. It was an available set still pretty much intact when chosen as a background for this public service announcement, then it was redecorated and recycled for various productions throughout the year including Mannix, Mission Impossible, and the 1975 feature film "Bug." The Brady Bunch had not entered into daily syndication at the time this psa was produced. It didn't go into daily reruns until September 1975 and that's where it finally found its ultimate audience, which were multi-generations of kids watching every afternoon after school for literally decades. Therefore, at the time of this filming, Paramount had no idea of how iconic this house would become over the next fifty years as the home of America's favorite 1970's era TV family.
Whoa...Thanks for the back story. I thought I had entered some strange '70s alternative timeline portal. This trips me out, man! Robbie Rist just sealed the deal. But Marion and Tom were already on "Happy Days" at that point so why would they do this?!
My dad was a big smoker, too. But he was able to quit. Because he smoked, he was thin(not skin and bones) but when he stopped, he started eating more and put on weight. He was starting to get a potbelly but he became thin again by developing a new habit... BIKE RIDING! When the weather's nice, he bike rides every chance he gets! I'm proud of him.
Bike riding and other outer exercise (like long walks) can be done ANYTIME. People need to realize and embrace this. As someone for whom her bike is her car, I must brave 5-degree temps sometimes and if there is no snow on the ground, I might very well ride my bike. Obviously we should be safe in not riding in hazardous conditions but even with walking, there is something very enlivening about a long walk on a below-freezing day. You oxygenate so much and it makes you feel so good.
Robert Reed was a cigarette smoker for sure. He and other cast and crew were bound to have lit up while on the set, just not while the cameras were rolling. Smoking was allowed in most places back then, it was a very socially acceptable thing to do in public.
The Brady Bunch was shot on Stage 5 & Happy Days was shot on Stage 19, both at Paramount Studios. The last episode on the Brady Bunch aired March 8th, 1974. The first episode of Happy Days aired January 15th, 1974 (filmed in December, 1973). The Brady bunch set was still intact, even though the Brady Bunch was just cancelled or about to be cancelled. Interesting to see how they "tried to rearranged the set, also "cousin Oliver" was in this PSA. I'm assuming both this PSA and the last episodes of the Brady Bunch were filmed around the same time if "cousin Oliver" was hanging around the set.
Paramount kept the sets in storage ("Fold and Hold") after the series ended as the living room area pops up in the last episode of MANNIX - A Year after Brady Bunch finished production. It's unlikely they kept the set standing that long. Easier for an episodic series to pull on aold set out of storage than build one for a single episode.
@@theloyalorderofclassictv5435 | We do not know the sequence of which productions used the sets after the series ended. So the Brady’s sublet when they went to Hawaii. But did they know they were smokers? And they were forced to bring in their own toilet. And those un-authorized renovations.

Surely there were unseen cocktail parties for friends and clients hosted by Mr. and Mrs. Brady where alcohol was flowing and smoke was rolling.
